Yossi, I thought all this "assault weapon" hysteria was about crime..or was I wrong?
Stop with "you don't need an assault weapon" crap.. you don't a cigarette or Alcohol either, but they are available and cause more death every year than all gun deaths COMBINED...I don't hear any ban clamor about them..

And let's get another thing straight..Assault weapons are used in 2%-8% of all gun crime, depending on what statistics you believe. The rest of gun crime was committed with some other type of gun.

"Assault" weapons look scary and are an easy sell to the public to ban. They are low hanging fruit.
But if you really want to make an impact on what guns are being used in the majority of the crimes, your aiming at the wrong target...

Because this isn't about assault weapons it is about the entire 2nd amendment, they wish to do away with it. Now they will focus on the pistols and the guns that actually commit the majority of the crimes.

Its amazing how many people KNOW what is best for others when it comes to self defense and what gun suits them best. And why do police need assault rifles then, are they going to a war zone, no they want the proper tool to stop the situation quickly if need to. The guns and magazines are already out there, no law is going to make them dissapear,20-50 years from now assault rifles will still be here and all the crying isn't going to stop it. This does not mean we shouldn't try to find ground to help protect our children, something that this law failed at miserably.

Many of the guns and magazines that are "out there" are there thanks to the NRA push to PUT THEM
THERE by working to kill support for extending the 1994 assault weapons ban.
No one in America needs an assault weapon... unless they are a criminal intent
on using those weapons in a crime... whether that crime is robbery, murder or treason.

The mags are out there because they can be out there, there is a demand for them and one thing we learned from the drug war is you can't eliminate the supply when there is a demand. And again with Americans don't need, you don't need a car that can do over 65 but you still have the right to own one. Don't tell me what I need or can have, as long I don't infringe on your rights you have nothing to worry about.

That is the fear factor the NRA and GUNHUGGERS are selling... and Henry is buying!

Being a gun free zone didn't suit them either but you don't wish to address that issue, oh I forgot only the elite like Obama can get those luxaries like armed protection for their kids.

55 tbird--REally--I didn't see you at the rally last night in albany.  Inf act I don't see you at the SNUG meeting either.

First, I didn't know you had Internet board xray vision to see what I look like...

But to your point, I don't fit into the redneck, beer drinking, mailbox shooting gun nut category you and Boxy try to pigeon hole all the people that disagree with you in to....

I have never hunted, fired a gun maybe four times in my life and don't personally own a gun. My wife owns a gun, but hasn't used it in over 10 years. I have no dog in this hunt.
But, I do have a problem with blaming the scary looking instrument, instead of the mental deranged people that use it....in the commission on a crime...

Keep on topic Henry... It's about Assault weapons Ban...not Obama's kids. (Now even Henry is
hiding behind children)
BTW... The Va Tech shootings took place on a campus with it's own armed police force.

And he infringed on their rights and if he didn't kill himself he would of been sentences for the crimes he committed. Your argument is that of we should ban all prescription drugs because some abuse them, even though that medication helps thousands.

And were the police in that building no they were not, the shooter chained the doors leaving those students (which weren't allowed to carry) defenesless. Now if the students were allowed to carry maybe they could have saved some but your type made it impossible for them to defend themselves.

Well on this Henry we agree.
Prescription Drugs can only be purchased WHEN F'N NEEDED RIGHT???
They are a regulated product that requires special NEEDS before they can be sold.

Since YOU linked prescription drugs to assault weapons... you should at least show a NEED for an AR15.

If assault weapons were as regulated as prescription drugs... Adam Lanza would not have had access
to one... and 26 people in CT would be alive today.

Lets regulate assault weapons... at least as well as we do prescription drugs... WE AGREE HENRY!

If students were allowed to carry... he wouldn't have to hide his weapons would he... he could walk right
in the door, past the security and walk right into the room and start shooting.

Homicide Rate in New York.  Years in bold indicate the years there was a Federal Assault Weapons ban.

New York 2011 2010 2009 2008 2007 2006 2005 2004 2003 2002 2001 2000 1999 1998 1997 1996
                  4.0   4.5    4.0   4.3    4.2    4.8    4.5   4.6      4.9     4.7     5       5       5       5.1      6       7.4

Link for homicide rate in all states.
http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/murder-rates-nationally-and-state

Compare homicide rates between pre and post federal assualt weapons ban.  It looks as if the homicide rate went down once the ban was lifted.  But you can see for yourself.
