If you're going to kick 758,000 registered voters off the voting rolls, then you should provide free
photo identification cards BEFORE the November elections.

Agreed...so whats the problem???
At worst, it would take MAYBE 5 million to accomplish.. Say, 750K for postage and no more than 350K for the pictures...That leaves 4 million for labor.

The big problem (and the GOP knows it) is that even if that program existed, it would take more than 4 months
to implement and complete.  Long after the November elections.

It could be done... You already have cameras at the DMV...you already have the form to put the picture on a card.... Why it can't be done? Government bureaucracy, labor unions and politics...

Dems want voting without REAL verification
Pubs want voting with REAL verification, but refuse to implement a viable process.
They are both guilty of voter manipulation, just at different ends of the spectrum.

If there is a NEED for voter ID, then the program should happen... so far, there is no NEED, except the
political NEED to steal an election.

This problem is nothing new... If the GOP had started this issue after the 2008 election, I might believe
that the purpose is to prevent voter fraud... they started it months before the 2012 election for
the purposeof voter suppression.
*************************************************************************
There is lots of TALK about voter fraud... but little evidence:

Missouri, 2000
The 2000 election was hotly contested in Missouri, and various irregularities led to inflated claims
of widespread fraud. Many of these fraud claims were later used to support the call for restrictive
ID requirements. We examined each of the allegations of fraud by individual voters -- the only sort
that ID could possibly address -- to uncover the truth behind the assertions.
The allegations yielded only six substantiated cases of Missouri votes cast by ineligible voters,
knowingly or unknowingly, except for those votes permitted by court order. The six cases were
double votes by four voters -- two across state lines and two within Missouri -- amounting to
an overall rate of 0.0003%. None of these problems could have been resolved by requiring photo
ID at the polls.

Missouri, 2001

The St. Louis primary election for mayor is generally considered the guarantor of success in the
general election. In 2001, various irregularities led to inflated claims of widespread fraud. Many
of these fraud claims were later used to support the call for restrictive ID requirements. We
examined each of the allegations of fraud by individual voters -- the only sort that ID could
possibly address -- to uncover the truth behind the assertions.
The allegations yielded absolutely no substantiated cases of individuals knowingly casting invalid
votes that counted. Accordingly, none of these problems could have been resolved by requiring
photo ID at the polls.

Missouri, 2004

The 2004 election was hotly contested in Missouri, and various irregularities led to inflated
claims of widespread fraud. At the same time, Missouri citizens were debating a proposal to
require restrictive identification of each voter at the polls, and the fraud claims were used
to support the call for ID. We examined each of the allegations of fraud by individual voters
-- the only sort that ID could possibly address -- to uncover the truth behind the assertions.
The allegations yielded only two substantiated cases of individuals knowingly casting invalid
votes that counted -- two voters, each voting twice. This amounts to a rate of 0.0001%.
None of these problems could have been resolved by requiring photo ID at the polls.

Missouri, 2006

The 2006 election was hotly contested in Missouri, and various irregularities led to inflated
claims of widespread fraud.
The allegations yielded absolutely no substantiated cases of individuals knowingly casting
invalid votes that counted. Accordingly, none of these problems could have been resolved
by requiring photo ID at the polls.

The list goes on...

In this era of hi-tech, to not have a photo on your voter registration card is an inexcusable joke. We've had it on Drivers licenses for over 30 years. What's more important? Safe guarding the most precious right we have in a democracy, or to make sure we are old enough to buy beer?

As far as the pubs, I have no idea whether or not they only push this near an election, if they do, then shame on them.  I also have no idea why Democrats get all wiggy WHENEVER it is mentioned. They don't seem to have a problem subsidizing everything else, why not this?

BTW, what is restrictive about one person , one vote?

I also have no idea why Democrats get all wiggy WHENEVER it is mentioned. Because the
present GOP voter suppression would eliminate many more Democrats than Republicans... which is the
point of the whole GOP voter suppression campaign.

Can illegal immigrants register to vote?
by Fran Eaton

This immigration issue should remain on the front burner.  Yesterday I wrote that Illinois conservatives need to understand the urgency of determining the best way to deal with illegal aliens.  It is quickly emerging as one of the top three issues in the 2006 election cycle.

Over the weekend, several hundred immigrant rights leaders gathered in Hillside to discuss blanket amnesty for illegal immigrants and a moratorium on deportations being enforced by the U.S. Dept of Homeland Security.

The conference was conducted completely in Spanish and interpreted through headphones into English.  From a Chicago Tribune account . . .

U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) told participants they must focus on electoral strategies after mobilizing hundreds of thousands in the Loop and elsewhere. Gutierrez said he has given up hope that Congress will pass immigration reform before the November elections.

"It's nice to have marches. I go to all of them," Gutierrez said. "But there is something that has to happen after a march. You register to vote. Congress will only move when it is in fear of losing power."

Gutierrez encouraged illegal immigrants to register to vote.

How does this work?  In order to register to vote, the Motor Voter Registration form simply asks the applicant to sign, stating he or she is a citizen of the U.S., 18 years old, a resident of the precinct for the last 30 days and not a felon.  On one county form, the Social Security number (or last four digits) is requested.  On another county's form, a driver's license number is requested.

I asked a DuPage County elections official how they would check whether a person registering to vote was a citizen of the U.S.  She said that they have no choice but to accept the word of the person who registered.  If there was any suspicion that the voter was not a citizen of the U.S., an election judge at the polling place could file an objection when he or she comes in to vote.

I asked if there was anything in the new federal Voting Rights Act that would intimidate election judges from objecting to a person's voting qualifications, and she said she couldn't answer that question.

The ramifications of this confusion over election law and its enforcement, as well 22 people working fulltime with the Illinois Coalition for Immigrants and Refugee Rights to register voters for the November 2006 election, should concern anyone interested in ballot integrity and election results.

1. WHY would it If it was free?
OK, take out the GOP states.. Is there ANY Democratically controlled state that has a state-paid voter photo-id Program?

2. Then why is it called "restrictive"... as in what you posted a few back?

Here's my issue with voter ID laws.  Shouldn't you have to prove, for one person, one vote... WHICH PERSON YOU ARE?

LMAO!  Cic thinks he lives in a country where "the Majority Rules"!!!
Funny Cic!

If the Majority Ruled... then the Rich would have had their taxes raised every year since 2008!  Do you really
believe your own words Cic???
Did the "Majority Rule" when congress passed civil rights legislation??? Of course not. Duhhh!

With today's GOP Voter ID laws, you could illegally get a Voter ID in two different counties using a birth Certificate
as proof of citizenship, then show your brand new shiny Voter ID both times you vote!

Did it pass with a minority vote?(no pun intended)

A MAJORITY of Congressmen/women and Senators that were elected by a majority vote, passed the civil rights bill that MANDATED that businessowners no longer had private property rights and were forced to enter into contracts with those the government mandated.

This isn't "voter suppression", this is pure democracy at work!  And requiring a voter id is a step in protecting America's democratic system.

Box, opposed to a MANDATE?  SHOCKED!

Cic gets it wrong again... of course!

If it's necessary to prevent a REAL (not imagined) problem... then I would favor a voter ID plan.  It should be
fair to all who are now registered legally and not single out any group to be treated unfairly.
Lets start with Voter ID for all Registered Republicans, since they are so in favor of this law.  We can require
all Republicans to have a Voter ID by say ... this November 1st.  Sort of a trial basis. If it works well for those
Republicans who want this plan... then it can be implemented for all voters by the following November.

Wouldn't that be fair??? NO??? So you think a few Republicans might lose their right to vote in this election
if the plan is imposed so quickly???
Kind of like the Florida GOP voter suppression plan is now???

Some type of photo-id should be required to vote... and the government should provide it for free.
It should be a part of your voter registration process. Providing it for free should satisfy everyone's concerns... what's so hard to figure out?
