You're so right....let's not check for colon cancer!
Let's wait and see if we get it!!!

Let's not check prostates....we can deal with it AFTER it becomes an issue.

Let's not check for white blood count and irregularities....
we should wait and see if we have a problem and then get it checked!

YOU ARE SO RIGHT...let's not be proactive, it's better to be reactive!!!!!!

It is not health insurance then.  Your car insurance premium doesn't pay for break changes, oil changes, replace bald tires, or replace headlights.  If that was the case, everybody would have it done whether they need it or not, and prices would explode.  Preventative maintenance is the individuals responsibility.

Um Cissy.  Car insurance is different from Life insurance is different from Flood insurance is different
from Travel insurance is different from Health Care Insurance.

You apply your definition, because I know you can't accept the "accepted definition" and understanding that
the majority of people would know it to be....
I didn't call it PREVENTIVE HEALTH INSURANCE, because if you weren't trying to be
a jerk, you would know there is a significant difference than what you are trying to compare
it to....but then again, that's CISSY'S GAME!!!!

You describe "preventive maintenance" and they do offer such plans you can purchase.
But those will be preventative maintenance...like you explained.  They won't cover a blown engine,
busted transmission, broken steering wheel or a broken frame....because those are not "maintenance" items.

GET IT?????????

So let's understand your side...."Preventative maintenance is the individuals responsibility."
Explain how you check your prostate and colon for potential cancer?
Explain how you check your white blood count to see if there are abnormalities
that are precursors to something concerning?

JUST BECAUSE SISSY SAYS SO DOESN'T MAKE IT SO...BUT HE THINKS IT DOES!!!!!

maybe,,,just MAYBE....the 10 corporations that control our food supply and all the other fu(king chemicals that CAUSE
the issues should get fu(king probed.....alas they are the masters of the global status quo in trade and national
insurance(healthcare) is ANOTHER link in the slave chain.....

You check your prostate the same way you get your bald tires replaced and mounted.  YOU GO TO A PROFESSIONAL THAT HAS THE EQUIPMENT AND EXPERTISE AND PULL OUT YOUR CHECK BOOK AND PAY THEM.  I know, it's a radical concept.

Dr. Senders,
What other procedures would you recommend to proactively determine
if there are potential life threatening issues with a person's colon
or prostate.  Please enlighten me.  Unless you prescribe to the Cissyboy methodology!

Yes, probing is uncomfortable and really embarrassing and not something I
really want to do.....but if it is THE ONLY methods available to determine issues
early enough to be treated, then unless you have some Medical alternative, guess
probing is my only choice.  You can choose not to have it and take your chances....
I prefer to be PROACTIVE!

let me get this straight and please correct me if I am wrong....

you're saying that the 'age windows' of when to get colonoscopy/mammogram etc are fine and everyone should be excited to
line up like cattle have it done and when nothing is found but 2 years later you have 'issues' you go back and it's stage 4
because it's NOT exact science, it's stats and we're lab rats......

it's called fear care.....A LOT  of mammograms and colonoscopys are either false positives and/or inconclusive......

Angelina Jolie removed her boobs out of fear.....she can afford the BEST plastics MD and no one would have had to known but
going public made her/him a 'hero'....out of fear?????? really

OK, you offered no less invasive method, so guess you don't know of an alternative.

Let's be clear (and you have said before you are a caregiver, so should really know this)....

First, the "age window" as you have called it, is historically based on susceptibility.
It is a guide and by no means definitive and exact. I am aware of people in there 20's
and others under 50 that have had colonoscopies at the recommendation of their
personal Physician because of some indicator.....see, that's called PROACTIVE!!!!

IF (notice I said "IF", during a colonoscopy something is found, and the polyps are small,
they can be removed at that time (and tested after for cancerous cells). So there is immediate care
without having to go through more intensive  procedures.  IF (there's that word again), ANYTHING
is discovered, then there are follow-up procedures to determine if there is a malignancy or not.
So if it is a FALSE POSITIVE, there are procedures for follow-up to determine the validity. Also,
IF (there it is again), a person is concerned about the diagnosis, they can get a second opinion,
and the health care program pays for that.

I'm not a doctor but I have taken care of hundreds of elderly people.....they know....and I listen....

little Johnny is born 'poor'...he's not starving but his diet consists of pizza pockets/box cereal/milk/eggs/oj/box mac and
cheese/peanut butter etc..you get my drift....Johnny grows up learns a trade and 'makes it' to the middle class...
Johnny gets married at 28 and him and his wife have 3 kids...Johnny's not 'poor' anymore and now finds freedom to
buy things like pizza/chinese, maybe even go to the local applebees with the family a couple times a month...they get
to do all those things he couldn't as a kid, like go to the movies, the mall, game rooms etc...Johnny works a lot of
hours to 'get that edge' and doesn't find time to 'play' outside and really doesn't eat whole foods at breakfast or lunch
grabbing a NUTRI-GRAIN BAR, that's got vitamins, it says so....he doesn't eat butter, because the doc said that's bad
for his cholesterol so he opts for the chemical margarine like he's told....

Johnny is 42 years old, his prostate is 'iffy', he's borderline diabetic, his joints hurt a lot and he might have some
joint disease setting in and he's got a little osteoporosis, he used to smoke back in the day and he still consumes the
equivalent of a 12 pack of beer a week, switching between whisky and beer when he's bowling with the guys or at
family functions. He's now taking a statin lower his cholesterol and now his bones hurt and he takes either
ibuprofen or tylenol to help with the pain. Johnny has his colonoscopy and prostate test and everything is good.

Johnny is 53 years old he has a heart attack and needs a bypass. mean while his carotid arteries are 30% occluded
but no roto-router for him because the actuarial risk isn't high enough. Johnny is still taking the tylenol regularly and
now he takes an aspirin daily as prescribed by his MD. He's still working many hours but not as many as before.

Johnny is 63 years old. He's driving home from work one day, feels dizzy and pulls over. He calls his wife who then calls
911...Johnny's carotid arteries are now 75% and 40% occluded and qualifies for the surgery. Johnny is left with some
residual stroke effects. Johnny 'changes' his diet eating all the packaged food that has that nice food pyramid on it.

Johnny is 67 and decides to retire. The kids are married and he wants to spend time with the grand kids. Johnny goes
for his 'mandated' prostate test and colonoscopy. Johnny has stage 4 prostate cancer that has metastisized to his
colon. Johnny spends the last 3 years of his life with a colostomy and an indwelling urinary catheter. He still takes the
statin to lower his cholesterol and the aspirin.

Johnny looks back and tells the story of his poor childhood that he didn't really deem poor. But now he understands
poor food and rich food. being fed by the 'man' and feeding yourself. but he never  says "at least, I
had those tests and I'm alive." what Johnny does say is "take care of yourself and don't waste your time working for
the 'man', question everything and educate yourself and don't let fear rule your life."
