World English Dictionary: BIGOT: ~ a person who is intolerant of any ideas other than his or her own, esp on religion, politics, or raceThat's why!
Yup, that would include GLAAD's intolerance to Phil Robertson's ideas. So yes, GLAAD is a bigoted organization too. Difference is, Phil did nothing but express his personal opinion during an interview. GLAAD and A&E on the other hand punished Phil for his personal beliefs. Now who's the bigot? |

He thinks homosexuality is a sin because his interpretation of the scripture tells him it is. Is that suddenly a crime that is punishable by getting fired for voicing his opinion? That is the real issue here.
Not a crime.
Employers are allowed to have rules of conduct for employees.
This would likely be grounds for dismissal for any school teacher as well.
Speaking out and causing embarrassment for your employer/sponsors, is not the way to keep your job.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but lots of people get fired for crap they post to Facebook.

Why is it okay to judge him a "bigot", and express that opinion, but when he expressed his opinions IN RESPONSE TO A REQUEST for his thoughts, it is okay for a bunch of people to condemn that response, elevating their opinion over his as the correct thought? I do not support using the cover of "free speech" to disseminate nastiness and personal attacks out over the public airwaves, but this man was asked for his opinion in an interview for a publication. He did not use his show as a vehicle to express personal opinions. So why should someone get suspended (fired) from his show because people who do not have to watch it or read any article with his name in it decide to elevate their personal OPINIONS over his, as being the only ones allowable? I agree, this thing is being exploited for monetary reasons, and for a distraction, IMO, but when will people realize, if there are official thoughts that you are allowed to think, tomorrow, you could be the one whose thoughts are all of a sudden the forbidden ones. I would expect these people to have ideas that are different from mine. I would also expect that these types of witch hunts are going to backfire at some point .Enough is enough. How many people even read GQ? Who are the real bigots?
Intolerance and paranoia are both at an all time high.
People now use their beliefs to justify any actions, regardless of the pain or physical harm to others.
This leads to suicides and homicides when the pain, resentment and anger builds.
School shootings, the guy in England who was beaten and set on fire by angry paranoid neighbors, when he was taking pictures of kids destroying his garden, and was thought to be a pedophile, etc.
Phil and his supporters are examples of those who demand the right to be intolerant, racist, homophobic and to pass judgement on anyone they want.
This is what is known as thumping people with the bible.
Not what Jesus would do Phil.
These types of behaviors are more along the lines of intolerant extremists like Chick Fil A, the Westboro Baptists, muslim extremists, the Taliban, the Tea Party, etc. ect.
They live just one small spark away from going on a homicidal rampage.
While one side of the issue wishes to bolster inclusion and acceptance, the other side uses their beliefs to hate and forbid their kind, from accepting gay marriage, equality and any lifestyles forbidden by their personal beliefs.
These ideas of separatism and hatred have been the basis of wars since the beginning of time.
People need to learn to simply let others do what they want in their lives and not angrily throw their beliefs into other people's faces.
Phil and his family suffer from intolerance and moral justification for it. |

Working in a nursing home a lot of the folks there are bigots....they have just fallen down and can't get back up without the help of those different from them.....I hear murmurings all the time......it's a lesson in human nature....and no matter what the public does through media or schooling or what ever other means....humans are humans and have the same deep instincts/thoughts or what ever you want to call them no matter what...

A & E can do what ever it wants with it's programing... fire him or give him a 10 year contract... all the same to me. If you believe racial bigotry is a good thing, or anti gay rants are commendable, then you have a right to believe them... and A & E has the right to cancel the show. Personally, I love watching the intolerant flounder in their own bigotry. If you value bigotry no one is stopping you from supporting a bigot. |

He's a celeb... a pretty disgusting celeb, but so are the Kardashians (and much easier to look at than some backwoods grubby duck killer!) Oprah, Paris Hilton, Leona Helmsley, Mel Gibson, Jane Fonda... etc, or other celebs are free to voice their opinion, and we are free to condemn them or honor them for their opinion. I see this no different. |

From The Libertarian Blog, "The Mahablog"
Quoted Text
The version of what Robertson said floating around on the Right is that he was just expressing what the Bible said about homosexuality and had added that it was not for him to judge. See? He’s not a bad guy. But if you look at Robertson’s actual comments, what he said was vile and, yes, judgmental. This is a cheap hatemonger’s trick; say hateful things and then add the qualifier “but it’s not up to me to judge” or “let God sort ‘em out” or some such, and that’s supposed to cancel out what you just said. This is a variation of the “I was just joking” qualifier that’s supposed to make it OK to wish someone to eat poison and die.
This takes me to my subject, which is hate as a Christian virtue. For at least a subset of Americans who self-identify as Christians, it seems their “religion” is mostly about hating people. Of course, they qualify this by saying they “hate the sin but love the sinner,” but that’s just the qualifier they tack onto hate speech aimed directly at the “sinner,” not the sin.
And, of course, if you are even halfway acquainted with the teachings of Jesus in the Gospels, you would know that Jesus frequently cautioned his followers to not hate anybody, even enemies (see Matthew 5:43-48).
