The right to free speech isn’t just a fundamental American value; it’s enshrined
in the first amendment to our constitution. If only the most loud-mouthed among us
actually understood what it says. Here’s what the First Amendment offers: you can say,
write or publish pretty much whatever you want, no matter how offensive (with a few
exceptions), and the government can’t step in and censor you or put you in jail.

Here’s what the first amendment doesn’t do: allow you to say, write or publish whatever
you want, no matter how offensive, and also entitle you to a giant pay check from your
starring role on a cable reality TV show.

They knew who this guy was when they put him on TV, and now they are using this as a publicity ploy where the stars of the show and the network both benefit from this made up controversy. Yawn

That theory crossed my mind as well, we will see how it plays out.

Americans are not permitted to have serious philosophical debate.  Americans must only be entertained.  Whether you agree or disagree with what Phil said, what he said wasn't his crime. His crime was participating in the debate without permission.  Only pundits wearing suits and dresses on cable and Sunday opinion shows that speak proper political speak are allowed to shape society.  In fascist America, corporations control public dialog, and can destroy people who step out of line.

Like i said....we don't watch the show....but it is clear that Phil isn't concerned as much about the constitution as others are.
He lives by the Bible. It's apparent that this is not a poor, rich, black, white, dem or rep issue.
He thinks homosexuality is a sin because his interpretation of the scripture tells him it is.
Is that suddenly a crime that is punishable by getting fired for voicing his opinion? That is the real issue here.
GQ obviously had no problem with it!
It is apparent that even folks who disagree with his 'opinion/belief', support his right to express it.
And if we did watch reality tv....Phil and Kaye's duck dynasty would be our choice over the kardashians, or the real housewives of 'somewhere' or jersey shore.

Oh well....at least this story gave the media an excuse to not report what GOV ALMIGHTY is up to these days!

He committed no crime that I know of... He's just a bigot, that's all.

Why is it okay to judge him a "bigot", and express that opinion, but when he expressed his opinions IN RESPONSE TO A REQUEST for his thoughts, it is okay for a bunch of people to condemn that response, elevating their opinion over his as the correct thought?
I do not support using the cover of "free speech" to disseminate nastiness and personal attacks out over the public airwaves, but this man was asked for his opinion in an interview for a publication. He did not use his show as a vehicle to express personal opinions. So why should someone get suspended (fired) from his show because people who do not have to watch it or read any article with his name in it decide to elevate their personal OPINIONS over his, as being the only ones allowable?
I agree, this thing is being exploited for monetary reasons, and for a distraction, IMO, but when will people realize, if there are official thoughts that you are allowed to think, tomorrow, you could be the one whose thoughts are all of a sudden the forbidden ones.
I would expect these people to have ideas that are different from mine. I would also expect that these types of witch hunts are going to backfire at some point .Enough is enough. How many people even read GQ? Who are the real bigots?

World English Dictionary:
BIGOT:
~ a person who is intolerant of any ideas other than his or her own, esp on religion,
politics,  or race

That's why!

Our nephew is gay. we called and asked him his view. He and his partner and their 'gay community' saw absolutely NOTHING wrong or offensive with what phil said!!

Actually...they said they feel the same way...only in reverse....of course. They said that if phil is labeled a bigot then so is the gay community for thinking just the opposite.

As far as it being a sin....they said that is a personal belief and no one will know, including them, until the day the elevator takes us up or down. Again...no big deal to them.

they live out of state and said that their gay community REALLY didn't think it was a big deal at all!! Plus they watch the show and will continue to.

They said the media is just in overkill right now.....as usual!!
