Would it be a better use of money to take care of trees instead of people   I for one hope Mr. Viscusi wins, he obviously understands what's important in life and has dealt with issues all of us face.

Buona Fortuna, Signor Viscusi!

Viscusi throwing his hat in the ring again as what? Is he still a Conservative or did he switch to Dems like his nephew.  I hope he can read better than at the debate for County Legislature. I hope he has more fiscally conservative ideas and not more tax break ideas like housing your elderly parents. Just what we need, tax breaks when schools are closing.

Most rotterdamians agree. Giving tax breaks to the few and expecting the many to shoulder the load, is NOT what conservatives do! So NO.....Viscusi is NOT a 'real conservative!! Actually that is what liberals do. They use little old ladies and the poor kids as victims to get their political agenda through and hopefully garner more votes.

So the fact of the matter is.........Viscusi is a dem-o-cop!!!

I don't think that you should get a tax deduction for having your elderly parents living with you.  I also don't think that the county should be in the business of housing the elderly.  I don't know what the solution is, but throwing money into a new building for the senior housing is not appropriate.  Here's a question.  We're losing money running the senior center and need a new building.  What about moving all those that are at the current senior center to another location, such as The Avenue on Altamont Ave or the 3 possibilities of private enterprises in Scotia, Baptist Health Nursing Rehab, Heritage Arms Garden Apartments or the Scotia Mansion Home for Adults.

If there wasn't money in the business, there wouldn't already be 4 other places in the county (or more, these are the ones I can find / know of immediately) that were providing the other services free of taxpayer funding.

MV is crazy if he thinks anyone will support such a measure...the whole purpose of the reval was to eradicate the grossly
unbalanced tax burden...his plan would only recreate the same unfair tax burden...for taking care of family members, no less...a
situation for which real conservatives would take personal responsibility without taxpayer contributions to those family
responsibilities...and his live-in relatives aren't even US citizens.

Yes...unfortunately you are right about MV...and his nephew has been equally disappointing...they both pretended to be conservatives
when it was useful...Angelo used conservatives to win an election and MV used them for a power trip...then both sold them out and
jumped into bed with their enemies because Anelo is afraid of the Kratz and the NNTP (yes he told me that himself) and MV will sleep
with anyone just to be on a corrupt Executive Board...and is now running with the Demokratz because he blames the Republicans for
his loss in the County race two years ago...he thinks they should have stopped the NNTP that cost him the election...if you can believe
that...but that is exactly what MV told me in the days after that election...and that he was "thinking about talking to the cops"...that
he wanted the "experience" of being on the CP Board. Some experience....lol.

I really do not understand you people. You claim to be conservatives. You claim to be against taxes. When the Republicans propose a tax cut of any kind, particularly a tax cut for wealthy people and businesses, you people get behind it 110%. Yet when a local government endeavors to provide a tax credit for local people, you freak out that "conservatives are against this." pray tell, what makes one tax break conservative, and what makes another tax break "liberal."

Conservatives like to bash liberals that liberals believe the government is the solution to all problems. That is true; it is the liberals that created the government run nursing homes. Here is a plan that will incentivize families to not use the nursing home and keep relatives in their homes. This is beneficial to conservatives for 2 reasons. First that tax break is a hell of a lot cheaper than the cost borne by taxpayers when someone enters a nursing home. Additionally, the conservative family principles will be furthered by having elderly relatives in the home with family.

I fail to see the difference between this incentive and others which you all defend to the death. Perhaps you should consider consistency!

Does anyone know if Viscusi's parents live in his home?  Is this proposal self-serving?

I don't agree with any selective tax cuts or tax hikes. Whether you are rich or poor, old or young, gay or straight, black or white, have kids or no kids, the tax rate should be flat.  The use of taxation to influence personal behavior and pander to a bloc of voters is ridiculous.

Thanks for making my point... The fact I have to fill out a Star exemption, then HOPE AND PRAY the retard appointed to the assessors office is competent enough to file it(which he failed at TWICE) is reason enough for a flat tax.

Here's the answer...conservatives will tell you that the government doesn't belong in the nursing home business to begin with...and
people can still keep relatives in their homes...and they shouldn't need financial incentives to take care of their own family.

Got it! Rovide incentives to businesses to do what they should do... But don't provide incentives to us normal people. You are intellectually bankrupt...

Giving businesses incentives was originally to entice businesses into a community to provide jobs and promote economic security and lower property taxes by them paying their fair share.

In Schenectady county via the plex, that theory has failed miserably!!! Schenectady county businesses that have arrived via the plex.........contribute little if anything to the property/school tax base. Hence, the homeowners are shouldering the cost.

And although the plex has offered lucrative tax breaks to these businesses, they have failed to maintain the failing infrastructure, lower crime and deal with the ever increasing vacant buildings/homes! Taxes are high because OF the metroplex and their give-a-way tax deals.

It is NOT the role of government to provide tax breaks or monies to families to take care of their loved ones in their homes. Just like it is not the government's role to provide tax breaks or monies to develop and relocate private businesses.

So instead of looking for a hand out for your own personal situation, b**ch to your local government officials for giving you a false sense of economic security through  taxed exempt businesses supplied by YOU, THE TAXPAYER!!!

And as a side note............perhaps MV can personally benefit from an 'in-law tax incentive'..........perhaps?

Right...because private businesses are tax paying job creators...not the governement...or MV's non-citizen live-in relatives.
