SCHENECTADY COUNTY
Fights for Conservative line to dominate primaries

BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter

Poll workers will set up a voting machine at Schenectady High School for Tuesday’s primary, even though the ballot will feature only one name.
There are no primaries for city-wide elections and the only challenge is the Conservative Party’s endorsement of Dominic Dagostino for Schenectady County sheriff. That challenge comes from an opportunity to ballot against the Rotterdam police investigator, meaning all 22 voting machines across the city will feature his name and a spot for voting Conservatives to write in their choice of candidate.
Nearly all of this year’s primary challenges are focused on races in Rotterdam or for the District 4 seats on the county Legislature, which includes Rotterdam, Princetown and Duanesburg. Polling places set up in other areas of the county where there are no contested local races could go unused during next week’s election.
NO-SHOWS
“There could very well be — in many areas of the county — not a single voter showing up at the polls,” said Art Brassard, a commissioner with the county Board of Elections.
For instance, Brassard said, there are fewer than 700 county voters enrolled in the Working Families Party. Ordinarily, primary races draw roughly 15 percent of the electorate, which means there could be as few as 105 members of the party turning out to cast votes at the 60 polling places across the county.
Brassard said paper ballots cost 60 cents apiece and state law requires that the board supply a certain number to each polling place. The board also needs to pay election workers....................>>>>.......................>>>>.................................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....1&Continuation=1

Rotterdam residents reject Tommasone
Wednesday, September 16, 2009
By Michael Lamendola (Contact)
Gazette Reporter

SCHENECTADY COUNTY — Voters in Rotterdam sent a message to incumbent Republican Supervisor Steven Tommasone in Tuesday night’s primary, bouncing him off the Conservative line and handing a defeat to his appointed Republican candidate for Town Board, according to unofficial results from the Schenectady County Board of Elections.
In other results, three of four members of the No New Tax Party lost their primary attempts to seek a second line in November’s election. They will still appear on the Nov. 3 ballot under their newly formed party, however.
Tommasone lost the Conservative line to supervisor candidate Frank Del Gallo, a Democrat. Del Gallo received twice as many votes from Conservatives as did Tommasone, 287-134, in unofficial results. Tommasone had been endorsed by the county Conservative Committee. Brian McGarry, a Conservative running for supervisor, came in third, according to unofficial results. McGarry is also running on the No New Tax Party line, which will only exist for the Nov. 3 election.
In another setback to Tommasone, Stanley Marchinkowski lost the Republican primary to newcomer Michael O’Connor, 352-312, in unofficial results. Marchinkowski and O’Connor had vied in the primary to fill an unexpired term of two years on the Town Board. Tommasone appointed Marchinkowski to the seat after Democrat John Silva resigned earlier this year..................>>>>...........................>>>>.................http://www.dailygazette.com/news/2009/sep/16/0916_third/

Yeah Suhrada....38% of the total vote...really decisive win.  Mertz was so unpopular in his own party that he receive 27%. How about O'Connor, the guy the party didn't endorse?  He beat a candidate appointed and endorsed by Republican leadership.  Uh-Oh, a No New Tax Party candidate with the Republican line. Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha.

No New Tax Party is still going to be on the ballot.  A lot of the people who signed the petitions to get the No New Tax Party on the ballot were from those residents registered BLANK.

I think this is far from over.

I agree with Cicero...far from over.  The No New Tax Party candidates have a LARGE group of concerned voters that really want much needed change.  Go NNTP in November!

C'mon GB Still reading your news clips for a silver lining I see.  The bottom line is the turnout was pathetic for the Republicans.  Hang your hat on finishing first but your party has some major issues to deal with pal.  A sweep is iminent ala 1999.

Tommasone and the "boys" are out of touch and deserve the tidal wave of discontent headed for them in November!   Cockle doodle doooo

A huge victory for Michael O'Connor who beat dead ender "Stan The Man" and now has two lines in November. Del Gallo looks unstoppable and even has the endorsement of "Ira from Rotterdam".

To the NO NEW TAX PARTY keep your heads up. Let some of these "experts" try establishing a new party. Most of your supporters could not vote yesterday. Keep going Countywide.

A tremendous defeat for Steve T. and the County REPS. How's the plan of not contesting races Countywide working out? DEMS from all over will be massing in town. Resignations should be flying like autumn leaves.

Rotterdam residents reject Tommasone

Putting aside the fact that I would not vote for Tommasone, where does the gazette/lamendola get off headlining their article .....ROTTERDAM RESIDENTS REJECT TOMMASONE? Was this a 'primary' or a 'general' election? Typical gazette/lamendola bias reporting.

What I found most mind boggling, was how the cons voted (in this primary) 'in favor' of dems! SHOCKING to say the least!!  Same political ideology?
