I know this is a little off topic, but reading through here, you can really tell that it's election time again here in the town of Rotterdam.  All of our friends who say not a single word anytime in the period between elections have come back.  Welcome back, Thor, PDQ, LeftTurnClyde, and all.

Anyway, I think that we do need a little bit of a change at the town level, and specifically at the county level.  I hope that this November we can start to see a bit of a change there, although it won't make a difference at all unless it's a big swing.  I wish that Mr. Suhrada wouldn't give up his seat at the county level I've been there for him, sitting back in the cheap seats and I have found him very easy to talk to.  I hope that if he does or doesn't win the Town Board seat that he will still be a vocal resident at the County level.

Joe, IF you happen to read this at any time and want to contact me, you know how to...and thanks for your service.

this was posted by filipe on the Esposito thread and I thought I would continue it under suhrada's since that's who it's about........

GB ~ Like any 'real' fiscal conservative, these guys understand what it takes to run a small business and manage a budget where they spend money as if were their own!  Compare that to other supervisors, including Steve, that spend money as if there is an endless supply.

Taxpaying families and businesses in our town are sick and tired of the politics as usual, including DelGallo.  So yea, I would imagine that DelGallo would fight for the taxpayers when it comes to taxes, including the creation of new taxing districts and be a hard negotiator on new contracts.  BTW, did we ever find out where Surhada falls on this?  Pretty sure he's flip flopped a couple of times, or was that just YOU that flip flopped?

I heard that suhrada is in favor of paying for REMS. Something I am dead set against as other residents are. Not when we can receivethe same if not better service from the private sector at no additional cost to the tax payers. It's a no brainer! IMHO

Once we start paying for REMS---we ALL know what happens to government entities and the control thereof.....they get expensive
what does the government do then?----yup---put it out for BID.......

I'd say there is a 5year plan for a BID out,,,once REMS becomes a government paid entity.....

a company all nicely set up by whom-----'We The People'........

BID OUT NOW!!!!

no free ride from me.......and the ambulance isn't a 'free ride' either-----private/government

but you are NOT going to jumpstart off my back.......

DONT TREAD ON ME

keeping the people safe by offering good services in policing, ambulance, fire protection, safe public roadways, and doing so with efficiency."

Suhrada, 43, is a life-long Rotterdam resident who lives at 19 Wedgewood Ave. in the town and is engaged to Professor Joanne Kehlbeck of Rotterdam. He has been a member of the Rotterdam Business Association, The Marine Corps League, The Rotterdam Elks, and Saint Gabriel's church.

It will be interesting to find out what good ambulance service means to Joe and I didn't know he was a Marine Veteran, that is very honorable.

GB ~ Can you confirm that he served in the United States Marine Corp?

TRUE CONSERVATIVES would opt for private sector. With contracts. With performance reviews.

$100,000/year of taxpayers money is ridiculous! IMHO

Do Mr. Surhada, Mr. Mertz, and Mr. McGarry have websites?  I would like to see what they have to say.

http://www.suhrada.com/

That's the only one I know of, and it hasn't been updated recently.

Gee, I don't know if Joe was. Maybe you should call him and ask him? Otherwise, it could be a big scandal that he is in that group. Maybe you can send out hate mail about it. At least we know you would never be in that group since you couldn't get past the "don't ask, don't tell" issue. Or you might understand what and why the organization is there for and who it includes. But you don't because no one has ever asked you to be a member. How sad...it must be lonely being you.

Although it is a great tool to get a message out, I don't make decisions on candidates websites. They are usually pretty generalized. However...I do like Mike Oconners. His seems to be on going. He actually 'talks' (posts) about issues as they arise. I vote Mike O's the best site! IMHO

Suhrada victim of cheap political shot over joining vets’ outfit

The politics of personal destruction has reared its head again. The political opponents of county Legislator Joe Suhrada have again made things hyper-political and are not resting until they destroy the man for his fiscally conservative and pro-American ways.
This time they have gone on the local political blogs under anonymous names attacking him for his membership in the Marine Corps League, which shows us how low things have sunk. Now Suhrada is being attacked anonymously for his support as an associate member of this organization by people who want him out of offi ce.
Why is Suhrada a member of this league, they ask, when he is not a military veteran? Here is why: because he was asked to join by the Marine Corps vets of the Electric City Detachment and was made an associate member. Why did they honor him like this? Because he exemplified himself as the top advocate of the veterans in the county for two deeds — one in his public life and the other in his private.
He stood up to the political bosses when they installed a vets director at the county who was not approved by the County Council of Veterans Organizations. This was the first time this happened and is in contravention to the state law which mandates a veterans director. Suhrada had guts.
The private thing he has done quietly over the years has been to give tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of candy and chocolate to our troops overseas and our fathers and grandfathers who reside as shut-ins at the VA hospital. How do I know this? I coordinate these deliveries. Suhrada receives no fanfare for this. We honored him for it by making him a member.
It has angered local veterans that there have been attacks made on him for joining the Marine Corps League when asked. How sick it is that political types now bash him for his service to the vets by twisting facts? People who don’t like him should remember that it was a vet who gave you the right to have a political stance, even if it is screwy. No matter what side of the aisle you are on, you have to respect a man who puts his money and fight where his heart is — with America’s proud vets.

This is the only post that alluded to Mr. Suhrada and the Marine Corp.  That’s a pretty scathing head line for ONE post on that topic.  I would call it more inquisitive, rather than a political cheap shot.  Felipe was just quoting the Suhrada’s web page.  Maybe if the on his website it said “honorary” member of the Marine Corps League, it may have been less confusing to those who read the web page.  Because honestly, if you do read that paragraph, it is easy to make the assumption that Mr. Surhada served as a Marine.

Richard should go to the SchenectadyNY.info it site and take a look at Mr. Suhrada’s post history, and he would see the hypocrisy of his editorial.  Mr. Suhrada made less than flattering comments about his political adversaries countless times.  Questioning if he served in the Marine Corps is childs play in comparison.

To the board ~ if Mr. Durant was referring to my post, it was clearly motivated by Joe S. in order to make public the public and "private" things he has done.  IF, Joe wanted these things kept "private" he certainly would not have solicited Mr. Durnat to write a letter to the editor.

Let's not be foolish here, it is campaign season and Joe is one of the nastiest campaigners in Schenectady County history!  On this site he has GB doing his bidding for him, and making attacks about being lonely and the "don't ask, don't tell" policy ~ shame on him.  I would say is "this what we have sunk to"?  But he has clearly been at that level a long time.  Oh, and GB ~ maybe some of us are alone, is that the kind of attacks you want to make?

As for his stand for veterans, I admire what he has advocated and contributed.  I question why he would allow his personal "private" contributions to be the centerpiece of his campaign.  Makes it look like he has only doene it for political gain, rather than out of the goodness of his heart.

Here's the reality, it's campaign season and ALL the republicans are in deep sh_ _!  Their infighting is a joke and the dems will capitalize.  Don't think so?  Tell me why 8 (from what I could count) campaign volunteers were in my neighborhood last night dropping brochures?  They even dropped their information at my door and I am a registered republican!
