No, I absolutely do not consider Yankee or Southerner to be racist terms.

Yankees are pro government control.

Southerners are angry resentful rebels who were forced into submission and forced to stay in the United States.

Iraqis consider US troops to be Yankees too.

What is wrong with any of this?  If it is its own country that shares the same culture, why are the federal statists so anxious to destroy a culture?  Slavery isn't even a viable economic institution, it's not like slavery would ever return.

If the confederate states reconstituted today and agreed to peacefully secede from the federal government, the federal government would bomb them into submission today just like 150 years ago.   The rebel battle flag has nothing to do with racism, it has all to do with not having allegiance to the Federal Government.  The Confederate Battle Flag is a symbol of rebellion against the Federal Government, not racism.
