There were some developers in the town that wanted to fund a sewer project at 7/I88, what happened to that plan?

The only question that the new mall owners didn't answer was whether fish would be on the menu at the cafe which will be located in the new aquarium.

Ripley's Aquarium in Myrtle Beach has a fish restaurant on site, so it's been done before.

good question.
story has it that the deal was floated to the dems that the developers would fund the sewer project and when completed, turn it over to the town to maintain/tax.
that's the last heard in ROTTENdam.

To clarify - they wanted to build a sewer line just for their proposed project from their proposed project down the hill to the sewage plant.  The town wants a sewer line that would run all the way to Route 7 and be capable of handling the sewage from all the properties along that path.

As for "where it stands" - there are a lot of proposed projects that developers/property owners just "put on the back burner" or for  reasons known only to them just fizzle out and fade away.

Probably because the developers want the town homeowners to help pay for the cost for sewers for the developers.  People can't afford that, but you wouldn't know, you're name is not on the tax rolls so you have to no financial obligation

Rotterdam

Work to bring an aquarium to Rotterdam Square Mall is beginning under a recently issued permit from the town.

Banners inside and outside the mall say in bold green letters "Coming Soon." Inside the mall, one of the signs says the aquarium and "funzone" is coming to the Sears corridor, which is the mall's most vacant stretch.

Inside, five separate retail spaces are being combined into a 25,000-square-foot aquarium and an almost 30,000-square-foot Family Entertainment Zone.

The mall's new owners, Istanbul-based Via Properties, purchased the half-empty retail center May 15 for $9.25 million. The former owner, Mehan Kohansiek, had paid $8.5 million for the mall when he bought it in January 2014.

Via Properties pledged after the purchase was announced in June that it would invest $10 million in renovating the troubled mall, which lost a key anchor in Macy's earlier this year. Mall officials could not be reached for comment on the work.

On Wednesday, the mall remained largely vacant, but workers were inside the space where the aquarium will be built. They have taken down the walls separating what were once individual stores. The company's subsidiary, Rotterdam Square LLC, received a building permit July 9 from the town of Rotterdam. The permit, posted in the window of one of the storefronts, lists the value of the work being done at $1.8 million.

A Florida firm, Jimerico Construction, applied for the permit.

Via Properties has said visitors will see specimens of sharks and deep-sea fish from all over the world. The family entertainment zone also was said to feature a bowling alley, sports bar and restaurant and more than 50 arcade games.

Via, based in Istanbul, owns hotels, theme parks, outlet malls and other retail properties. Two of its malls in Turkey feature aquariums.

The same developer acquired the Lake Square Mall in Leesburg, Fla., from Kohansiek in September 2014 and converted it into Via Port Florida. That mall had been 40 percent vacant but has been renovated and now includes a 30,000 square-foot entertainment center that includes a 22-lane bowling alley, a restaurant and bar, and an arcade. It does not have an aquarium.

Rotterdam Square Mall will have BOTH .. a Fun Zone with bowling alley, restaurant, bar and games for people of all ages   AND an Aquarium with a cafe and bar.   They were approved last month -- and I posted that information a few weeks ago.

The plans look very good - on paper - so I am optimistic that these new developments will be a good thing for the mall.

Bowling alley?   ROFLMAO!  You haven't noticed the FACT that bowling alleys are and have been  CLOSING?????    Woodlawn lanes is long gone.  Revere Lanes closed. Mt Pleasant Lanes closed.   Skyway Bowladrome closed.  Rolling Greens was never rebuilt after the roof caved in.   Burnt Hills lanes neverr reopened after their fire.   The Bowler's Club closed.    And that is just Schenectady (OK, the Bowler's Club is just outside Schenectady).  And the FEW bowling alleys still open have so few leagues.  Open bowling, year ago you had to make reservations ahead of time to get a lane; today, the person "at the desk" could twiddle his/her thumbs from open til close.

You really are out of touch with reality.  Fortunately I don't think there are any tax giveaways in this (if anyone knows do the contrary, please say)

Are the developers willing to pay for the sewers exclusively themselves, or do they want to force homeowners to pay too?

hell even crossgates is getting a bowling alley... i am thinking people are just fed up with the outdated state of most bowling alleys these days.... bass pro shop in rotterdam would be a great fit.. since right down 890 there is a nice little marina.. as for the Curry RD plaza I think if the Senior complex falls through then it'd be a nice space for an Ikea
