ROTTENdam doesn't need another 'market/grocery' store.
there is more than enough and with many choices.
ROTTENdam needs at least ONE upscale retail store.

Agreed... without the upscale store, you won't attract the clientele that will bring in better stores...you'll have the Dollar Store on Steroids and the riff-raff that comes with it instead.

Rotterdam doesn't have too many supermarkets.  It only has 3.   Hannaford's, Gabriel's and "the one that must not be named."   A Shop Rite or Wegman's or other supermarket would bring much needed competition AND would benefit folks who live in Rotterdam Junction and the western part of the town and county.

And just how many supermarkets does Rotterdam need for crying out loud  There's only a population of about 30,000.  And you forgot that Walmart Rotterdam has groceries.  Sure, not fresh stuff, but you can buy bread, condiments, flour, sugar, milk, juice, butter, eggs, coffee, tea and it's the same name brands as well as their own brand (and for you they have cookies and chips and soda, etc)

And of course, you only need Hannaford and Gabriel's

Hannaford's is a great store ... me and my family do all our grocery shopping there and at Gabriel's.

Clearly you know NOTHING about business.  People are NOT going to spend more money just because there are 4 or 5 supermarkets instead of 3 or 4!  There is no need for a supermarket within a mile or so of everyone.   When Shop Rite opened in Niskayuna, it had very good sales, but as other Shop Rites opened, the sales at Niskayuna went DOWN; Slingerlands, Albany opened, then Colonie opened and it's so rough with so many stores that Colonie store couldn't even meet the job numbers required to get their handout from the taxpayers, because they spreading themselves thin.

Of course you wouldn't know that because you have not grown up yet, you are not an adult with a wife and kids to support.  You know NOTHING about living on a budget as you have two rich mommies to support you.   Yeah, how about two 80+ year old mommies just being approved for a $400,000 mortgage!

Must be nice for you to never have to grow up and be an adult

I'll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up
Not me,
Not I,
Not me!
So there!
Never gonna be a man,
I won't!
Like to see somebody try
And make me.

How much Bounty paper towel from Hannaford does it take to clean someone so full of crap

Yes, there is a Save a Lot on Altamont. There is also BJs that should be lumped into the food market category.

There is more than enough room for a supermarket like ShopRite and some upscale stores.  Of course, a Bass Pro Shop (along with a ShopRite) would be an even better fit at the mall.

The Shop Rite could go where the Macy's used to be and the Bass Pro Shop could replace the K-Mart when it closes.   Still need to find something to fill the Sears space when that closes.

Naturally you will NOT address the LIE that you told that "there are only 3 supermarkets in Rotterdam."

So how many MUST there be to serve a small town?

And of course you will NOT address why sales in Niskayuna Shop Rite are DOWN as well as how the Shop Rite in Colonie has NOT had enough sales to meet the job criteria for taxpayer handouts.

How about we keep the Sears?! It's the only clothing store left for the average middle aged man/woman. Not my favorite place, but at least it's something.

That wouldn't change if they put in a shop rite. They're not even open past 6pm on Sunday's.

Barney's, Robert Hall's, The Boston Store, Filene's ..... they all were good stores.  For a variety of reasons, they all went out of business.  Essentially, they had their time in the sun and then the sun set.  The same is true for Sears.
For the past few years, Sears has been closing or reducing the size of its stores all across the country.  It is moving from bricks and mortar retail to other businesses.  The Sears in Rotterdam Square Mall will close in the near future.  Quite honestly, it is NOT a good draw as an anchor store.  It would be better for it to close sooner so that the square footage that it occupies/wastes could be put to better use.

I'd have no reason to go to the mall then, not unless they get an equivalent type store. An aquarium is great, but really, how often does anyone who lives in the community need to go to an aquarium. I need somewhere to buy my clothes for work. I need somewhere to buy my kid's clothes.

Hell no - we don't want an "equivalent" of Sears in the mall.  Sears is a stodgy, outdated establishment that sucks so bad that even the elderly shoppers won't go there.
We want 21st Century retail businesses and other establishments that actually draw people and their spending $$$.
As for the Aquarium -- the whole point is to draw people from ALL OVER ... make the mall a DESTINATION .. also retail today is all about THE EXPERIENCE.  Mall owners can't afford to just be worried about not upsetting the shopping habits of some locals who haven't had a new thought or changed their shopping habits in 30 or more years.   Mall owners have to "move" their properties to where the money is TODAY .. where the shoppers with the money are TODAY .. and draw from as large a pool as possible.
That is why I think that retailers like a Bass Pro Shop would be a great fit.   Shop Rite would be a great fit because it would definitely draw folks from the Junction and points west of here.  A supermarket like that would draw steady daily customers.   The destination stores like Bass Pro Shop would draw customers from far and wide.  A hotel in or near the mall property would be great, too.
