At least the trooper had a gun to protect himself.  If this happened to John Q Public that is not permitted to be armed, the trooper would have arrived after the fact and filled out the report at 80k per year.

A troopers safety is not my concern.

???
Why isn't John Q Public permitted to be armed???  I haven't heard that one.

Because leftist progressives, like yourself, support laws that limit and/or curb the populance from legally carrying a firarm in public.

Unless you can prove that your profession requires you to publicly carry a firearm, you have a less than 0% chance of obtaining a permit of any kind in NYS.

I have a pistol permit and own several firearms.  I had to apply for the permit, which seemed a
reasonable procedure, and no permit is required to buy a rifle or shotgun in NY State.

I support good gun laws (like background checks) and I support the 2nd amendment.  I also support
Conservative  Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia opinion that there are "undoubtedly" limits to a
person's right to bear arms under the Second Amendment.

Most Americans support limits on what weapons and where weapons can be carried.

You can carry your guns onto government property like the empire state plaza?  For some reason I think you would be stopped very quickly if you were seen carrying your shotgun through the plaza.

Scalia is just one opinion.  The real opinion lies with the people.  Jury nullification is the next step.  People are going to start to be educated on the power of the jury.  Juries can find a person not guilty of a law that Scalia or any other justice deems "Constitutional".

I for one would not convict a person of a victimless crime.  Charged a with drug crime - not guilty, possession of an "assault rifle" - not guilty, income tax evasion - not guilty.

The more people that change their attitudes about these arbitrary laws, the more not guilty verdicts will result.

Not aware of any law prohibiting you to carry a pistol at the Plaza, if you have a legal "carry" permit.
Carrying a shotgun or rifle in public "ANYWHERE" should get you stopped.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

And let's not forget to pass a law DOUBLING the penalty for assaulting a costumed agent with a kitchen knife.  If these were two homeless people pulling knives on each other not a big deal, but since it was an officer of law, we reallly need harsher penalties for the plebs.

It depends if the Museum and Library in the Plaza are considered educational institutions.  If so, then in NYS, even a person with a conceal/carry license may not be able to carry on Plaza property.

there's a $10,000 award for finding the guy....

I guess some victims are more equal than others

Seriously. I bet if they offered that for every murder, we would come out ahead in so many ways.
There are an awful lot of people that will turn in their own mother for a pack of Newports, so there would be a drastic cut in the amount that of time and money we spend to investigate these things.
Some investigations go on for years.
Also, there would be a lot less unsolved murders.

Henry's suspicions were correct... The Trooper was 'asking for it'.
From today's gazette:
Quoted Text
State Police Major Steve James said at a news conference today that Eric Green, 18, was
known by Capitol Police and had encountered state police officers on Sunday, prior to his encounter
with Smith. A 2008 incident was also of a violent nature, in keeping with the stabbing on Sunday.

"He is no stranger to law enforcement," said James.

Police believe that Green, who is suspected to be homeless, approached multiple troopers on Sunday,
including Smith, about finding a residence. When Smith was in the process of helping find shelter,
police believe that Green took a knife out of his bag and attacked him.

Imagine those police men... actually helping this guy find a place to live... The B@stards!

No wonder Green stabbed him!

So why didn't he attack the other troopers, why did the officer ask for identification in the 1st place, these are things you are trying to ignore. Either way they caught the guy, it should be interesting to hear his side of things.
