The percentage of American households that reported owning guns dropped more
than 40 percent between 1977 and 2010, according to surveys by the University of Chicago's
National Opinion Research Center. Among its efforts to reverse that trend, the firearms
industry is working hard to convince children to embrace gun culture. Here's how.

The gun industry recognizes that kids are key to its long-term profitability.

In 2008, the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the gun industry's major trade group,
launched an initiative called TaskForce 20/20, designed to increase the numbers of hunters
and target shooters by 20 percent in five years. Recruiting and retaining young shooters
were notable parts of the plan.

Action Item #22 in the task force report recommended that gun manufacturers and gun range
owners "promote youth programs, which are important in that they start participation at a
young age."

Children are encouraged to associate firearms with fun.

But no argument about the military pushing youth programs or the military sending recruiters to schools in every city to tell the kids a bunch of lies, youth shooting should be about fun but also to learn responsibility, this article makes it seem as if shooting guns is just about killing when it is not. By the way I don't believe that number at all when it comes to households with guns, more people just aren't letting others know what they have, 1st time gun owners have been increasing the more they talk about regulations and bans.

The number of guns per household has been decreasing, while the number of guns sold has been
increasing... More GunHuggers are stockpiling MORE GUNS!

Those charts are full of crap. we already know there as been a huge increase in 1st time buyers, the polls do not show reality instead a population who doesn't want a government who knows what they own.

So your theory is (those people like you) who don't want the "GOVERNMENT" to know who owns what"...
are buying the guns.
Um.... how many guns do you own??? Lots??? Kinda kills your theory.

First time gun buyers, replace gun owners who die off.  What is driving the Gun Lust is stockpiling weapons
before they become illegal with new gun laws.  Like all panic buying, once the market stabilizes, the buying
will slow to a stop.

So if you believe in polls you must also believe the polls which show a majority of people don't trust the government, now with all the gun control talk would you tell some person over the phone if you have guns or not?

Henry... you read your own agenda into the news.
I AM ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE WHO DON'T TRUST MY GOVT.  Look at all the insane TeaBaggers like
Michelle Bachmann... Look at the possibility of SENATOR Sarah Palin... Crazies like the Pauls, John
Boner', Lindsey Graham... Who in their right mind would trust that group?

After the Oil War In Iraq... who would trust any govt official.  Saying that... I don't see spies or
conspiracy behind every govt employee.  When I go to the post office, I see a federal worker, not a govt
spy or a conspiracy.

I don't do phone interviews, but I do take part in some online polls.  I wouldn't disclose what type of gun
I own but I would say that I had a gun/guns in my household.

If I were as paranoid as some on this board, I wouldn't even answer the phone...
"THEY can hear your phone calls you know!"

So you wouldn't do a phone interview which is still usually what they go by, being that you have more faith in government then most it shouldn't be a surprise that most will not admit to owning a firearm even if they do. There is a joke that makes its way around forums when asked if you own any type of gun, the answer is you lost them on a boating accident

(What you read on GunHugger Forums is not exactly a "reliable source")

Quoted Text
The household gun ownership rate has fallen from an average of 50 percent
in the 1970s
to 49 percent in the 1980s, 43 percent in the 1990s and
35 percent in the 2000s, according to the survey data, analyzed by The New York
Times.

In 2012, the share of American households with guns was 34 percent, according to survey
results released on Thursday. Researchers said the difference compared with 2010, when
the rate was 32 percent, was not statistically significant.

The findings contrast with the impression left by a flurry of news reports about people rushing
to buy guns and clearing shop shelves of assault rifles after the massacre last year at an
elementary school in Newtown, Conn.

“There are all these claims that gun ownership is going through the roof,” said Daniel Webster,
the director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Policy and Research. “But I suspect the
increase in gun sales has been limited mostly to current gun owners.
The most reputable surveys
show a decline over time in the share of households with guns.”

Dad shoots his daughter in the chest... but his 2nd amendment rights are intact!

A man was field stripping two handguns in Tullahoma, Tenn. when one discharged, shooting his
1-year-old daughter in the chest, The Tennessean reported.

Kevin Sayre, 26, was "showing how parts of one gun were interchangeable with the other one"
in the presence of the child. Police said Sayre was acting recklessly.
He was charged with aggravated assault.

The child was listed in critical condition Tuesday.

A person is guilty of aggravated assault if he or she attempts to cause serious bodily injury to another or causes
such injury purposely, knowingly, or recklessly under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value
of human life.

I will concede the recklessly caused injury part.

With extreme indifference to the value of human life clearly does not apply.

Operating a car drunk could be considered extreme indifference to the value of human life.

Disassembling guns is not.

We don't charge for accidents without willful intent.

Gun instructors have accidents all the time.

It's not reason to go apeshiit and ban all clips over 7 shots.
