A week after the Senate failed to come up with 60 votes to pass a measure expanding background checks on gun buyers, Vice President Joe Biden regrouped with gun control advocates on Thursday and reassured them the White House isn't giving up the fight.
Biden made "a real commitment" to keep pushing for gun reforms, said Pia Carusone, executive director of Americans for Responsible Solutions, a gun control PAC run by former Rep. Gabby Giffords (D-Ariz.) and her husband Mark Kelly.
"Walking into the meeting, I wasn't sure which way this was going to go," Carusone said. "But now I'm more confident they're going to keep the pressure on."
Biden met with the groups for about an hour. In addition to Giffords' group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns; The Brady Campaign; the Center for American Progress; the Joyce Foundation; the Newtown, Conn.-based Moms Demand Action and law enforcement officials also attended the meeting.
Biden's message to the groups was, "It's the beginning. It's not the end," said Carusone. "The tone of the meeting was very positive. There is a collective sense that we are on the right side of history."

She's a phony politician using her tragedy to campaign against republicans. Her PAC is running ads against those senators that voted against the gun control legislation. Well, not all the senators, just Republicans, not the 4 Democrats that voted against it. She's real principled.

Gabby Giffords (as posted at least twice on this board) has been a strong supporter of the best weapons possible for police and US military. Are these the pics you were whining about??? The pics of Gabby at the Tuscon Police Range shooting the weapons that she helped secure for her states police??? Those AR 15's???

As I member of the House Armed Services Committee, I proudly spent a lot of time with our military, border patrol and state and local law enforcement. I guess the intention of those who have publicized these photos is to somehow call into question my belief that military style assault weapons should be more strongly regulated with background checks and other safeguards. I have never wavered in my support for those who serve our country. I fought to make sure they have the weapons and safety gear needed to carry out their mission, and proper health and mental care when their service ends. Both sides of the gun violence debate usually miss the point. We don’t have to choose between owning, using, and enjoying guns, on one hand, and preventing gun violence, on the other. Both sides need to come together to support commonsense solutions to gun violence, like keeping guns out of the hands of dangerous people like the young man who shot me. That’s why I’m fighting this fight. That’s why I’m working to bring people together to support gun rights and reduce gun violence. I hope you join me.

They like most NRA Members support background checks... so does the vast majority of Americans. I have no hatred for assault weapons, or gun dealers. I appreciate all kinds of military weapons and have visited the Springfield armory in MA and enjoy guns in museums, both antique and modern.

I have no doubt that the will of the American people will be heard. Assault weapons will be restricted or if pushed hard enough by GunHuggers, they may eventually end up being banned altogether. It's just a matter of time.
