Guess the folks that didn't go....didn't miss anything then, huh? these controlled 'meet the candidates' are not what they are pumped up to be. I still like the old fashion 'door to door', 'up close and personal', 'eye to eye'.

I hadn't heard about this event other than the announcement that was posted on here.   Was there anything in the local newspapers?  I was told by someone who attended that it was just a setup by the Hamburg St merchants to get their "want list" addressed.

The hamburg street merchants try this with every election cycle. Historically they back the ones that will give them their political promises. Realistically.....rotterdam or any other municipality inside or outside of nys, can not afford to spend money that they clearly do not have. Most municipalities will have to raise taxes just to maintain the status quo. Anything new needs to be put on the back burner until this recession is over and people get back to work. And they all need to cut spending!

And only the 'honest' politicians will relay that 'unpopular' but realistic message.

I'm not mertzie sweetie...but thanks for the compliment!

However, I will stand on the fact that this is not the time to promise certain folks millions of dollars for whatever. The taxpayers are already bracing for what could be a double digit tax increase. I'm sure that we can all agree that with the jobless rate, the declining housing market/foreclosures, inflation and the global economic uncertainty....it is best to tighten the belt and cut spending. The private taxpayers are doing it already and are expecting their elected officials/government to do the same. This mind thought is not specific to Schenectady County.....it is national.

In Saratoga County? The DEMS in this County all voted to increase County taxes $12 million a year for 25 years. Rotsa ruck in Glenville.

FACT -- county taxes have been CUT 4 of the past 6 years -- and the county tax rate has not been this low in over 30 years....

so I guess you will have to come up with a DIFFERENT LIE .. because the Democrats are actually LOWERING  tax rates at the county level  (and the GOP majorities on the County Leg RAISED tax rates during the 30 or so years they ran the county).    FACTS ARE FACTS JACK.

Only per $1,000 of assessed value.  They're still spending more and more each year.  Luckily, they have had re-evaluations in Rotterdam and Schenectady the past few years to "spread the wealth" a bit more.  Those of us that are paying taxes see that the actual bill is going UP.
