Rotterdam clerk
falls ill, hospitalized

ROTTERDAM — Longtime clerk Eunice Esposito was hospitalized after falling ill at Town Hall Thursday.
Town officials had few details about the incident but confi rmed the 82-year-old Esposito was stricken with dizziness and shortness of breath. She was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for tests.
Attempts to contact Esposito were unsuccessful.
Her assistant, Cindy Dumar, declined to discuss the incident.
Esposito hasn’t appointed a deputy clerk. Last spring, she said the Town Board reduced the deputy position’s salary to the point where she couldn’t find someone to occupy the position.
Rotterdam’s Democratic Committee endorsed Esposito for town clerk during the spring, just months after she had contemplated retiring from politics.
She decided to run for an unprecedented 11th term after perceiving the Republican-dominated board was trying to force her from offi ce.
Esposito is being challenged by Lynn Fiorello, an assistant in Supervisor Steve Tommasone’s offi ce.
Board members considered a resolution during their meeting Wednesday that would have appointed Dumar the deputy registrar of vital statistics but decided to table a vote until September.

Wow!  An entire article on Eunice feeling ill.  I wish her well and a speedy recovery.  What a shame that Mr. Tommasone and others at town hall found in necessary to contact the media about this.
The media doesn't cover medical problems at town hall, someone had to contact them.  Some people have no class, no class at all.

If this article happened the way rightous assumed, than I agree....tacky. But isn't it possible that it was picked up on a scanner since she was obviously transported by ambulance? There are no reporters name attached to this article so I think it was not a call-in from anyone. I'm sure a reporter would have interviewed the caller and quoted them. And when I glanced the  paper at Dunkin Donuts, the article was buried among other articles.

I met Eunice for the first time on Tuesday night after the Rotterdam Town Board meeting.  It was ~10 pm and she was making her way to the elevator.  I didn't sense that she was ill.  She was very pleasant and stated that she is excited about serving another term.

I wish her a speedy recovery.

Brad ~ if Eunice was there past 10pm, then she had to sit and listen to Tommasone all night ~ clearly that would make anyone dizzy and short of breath for days to come.

Bumble ~ are you that naive?  You're not going to convince me that certain people in town hall weren't burning up the phone lines, after all it is election season.  The gazette would not have reported this without prompting, what a shame.

I am sure that Eunice will be fine, she's in our prayers.

Are you suggesting that the political party she represents or is in opposition with, would have stooped to a level of using her unfortunate incident as a politically motivated ploy? I not only find that hard to believe, I would also find it disheartening, at best, if it were true.

Bumble ~ STOP IT!  I have read enough of your posts on this site to know that you are much better informed than that!  Not only would they try to use this for their political advantage, but it's front and center in Parisi's playbook.  You don't think that Howdy Doody and Jerry (Buchanan wanna-be) coached Tommasone to push her out as it was?  Tell me why Fiorillo got the Indep/Conserv endorsements over Eunice (that was some deal)?

These idiots think that the voters are going to turn on Eunice because of her age, that's why they are lightweights!  A lot of us in the community been around a long long time, this is a bad move and one the old republican guard will not just sit by to watch.  You think the old guard is just asleep in their rocking chairs?

Eunice should make it loud and clear, as Ronald Reagan once said "I want you to know that I will not make age an issue of this campaign. I am not going to exploit, for political purposes, my opponent's youth and inexperience."

Sorry Felipe, but I still find it very very hard to believe that the reps or dems would stoop to this level over a TOWN CLERK'S JOB!!!!! Really!

The position is that of a 'well paid' clerk! Clearly NOT a job that influences town programs that require the clerk's vote. The clerks position is not one of 'decision making'. So who the heck really cares? There appears to me that there is no political benefit for either party one way or the other to have this article placed, or should we say 'buried', in the gazette.

'IF' you are correct in your assumption, than it is a shallow tactic at best!

OOOOK SHADOW! I thought the same thing! Actually, mary's post reminded me of Sal.......OH NO!!

So back to the eunice thing. I don't think there was anything politically motivated here. Or should I say...I can only hope not! (but stranger things have happened). However, I have always wondered, why on earth a town clerk's job was an elected position. Just like the receiver of taxes is. They are just cushy, public taxpaid, jobs for the career minded public sector. Kinda like welfare recipients, except they don't have to stand in line along side of hotdog venders in the snow or sweltering heat. To me...the career welfare people and the career politicians are about one in the same. My opinion of course.

For example....in the public political sector one is called the 'receiver of taxes'. In the private sector they are called 'bookkeepers'. And in the public political sector, one would be called a 'town clerk'. In the private sector they are called 'clerks'.

Elected positions? Pallleeezzzee! I don't vote for anyone in either of those categories. It's nonsense!

Oh bum, you silly little puppet..... this was leaked to the media, you know that, your just trying to get a rise out of people.  FYI morons they don't put a persons name over the police/fire scanner
for medical problems.  And im 100% positive that the media isn't sitting around a scanner waiting to hear who has a dizzy spell and then rush to the scene.  Doesn't HIPPA prevent anyone except Eunice
from commenting on a medical issue?  The "town officals" that made any comment on the situation were most likely violating HIPPA.
