12 weeks off.   Now you are exagerating.  I only get 4 weeks off and a few personal days.

Then you're not a Rotterdam police officer.

Hey, I'm not faulting the police union for hijacking the Conservative Party to create more leverage when it comes to negotiating and protecting those fat benefits.  More power to them.

If the people of Rotterdam are that stupid to not realize what's going on, then they deserve what they get.

I believe there is no new contract in place yet. There is nothing left to give them. And there is nothing they will give back. They are still working off the old contract. I say let them continue to work off this contract for......oh let's say.........about 5 years or so. It'll catch up!

They are waiting for the conservative messiah to endorse, that will negotiate an even BETTER contract than they have now. Ya know...perhaps Cooke again.

I will second that B Gage, they hate the men in blue even though it is the men in blue who keep them safe and it is how liberals hate the troops while they keep us free. I will never understand it maybe they got a ticket once when the were young and have been mad ever since

I don't hate the men in blue.  Just envious of the paid time off benefits and retirement benefits. Double time on holidays, plus holiday pay.  I am also jealous of the ability to retire after 20 years, and having a union contract that allows Rotterdam's officers to pad their retirement with endless O.T. when closing in on retirement.  In some cases, retiring at an annual salary that is higher than while they were working.

I'm just bragging on behalf of Rotterdam residents about how well we treat our boys in blue.  Everybody in Rotterdam and New York State for that matter, should be proud of the generosity we the taxpayer contribute to provide a wonderful salary, medical and retirement benefits for those who protect us.

New Yorker need to stop complaining about high taxes and be less critical of the compensation we pay for these essential services.

JUST SHUT UP AND PAY YOUR TAXES!

SCHENECTADY COUNTY
Faction defeated by 2-to-1 ratio
Conservative primary shows support for current leadership

BY MICHAEL LAMENDOLA Gazette Reporter
Reach Gazette reporter Michael Lamendola at 395-3114 or lamend@dailygazette.com

Kelly Rhinesmith’s faction lost by a decisive 2-to-1 ratio in its bid to take over the Schenectady County Conservative Committee in the Sept. 9 primary and also failed to gain the line for local candidates it supported, according unofficial results from the Schenectady County Board of Elections.
The Rhinesmith faction, which includes Bradley Littlefield and Pat Zollinger, among others, won 70 out of 256 committee seats.
The current leaders of the committee won 140 seats. They also can appoint their own people to another 30 seats during the committee’s reorganization meeting, giving them 170 seats, said committee Chairman Randy Pascarella. The 30 seats involve ties and contests in which no one voted.
Pascarella said he will call a date for the reorganization meeting shortly.
“At least 140 are ours and we will end up with 170 or more seats,” he said, suggesting that some of the committee seats won by Rhinesmith faction may actually be loyal to the current administration.
Pascarella said the voters in the primary “absolutely rejected Rhinesmith’s message.”
He attributed the current leadership’s success with hard work and with putting on a strong surge getting the people out to vote.”
He also questioned who paid for faction’s campaign, which he estimated cost at least $40,000 between the six mailings, phone calls, door hangers and the cost an attorney to contest the designating petitions.
Rhinesmith has not been available for comment.
In other primary results, Martin Finn and Andrew Kohout each beat back challenges from the Rhinesmith faction to strip them of the Conservative committee’s endorsement for the Nov. 4 election.
Finn is seeking re-election in District 3 of the Schenectady County Legislature and Kohout is seeking a seat as a trustee on the Scotia Village Board. Both are Democrats. Finn faces Republican Tim Macfarlane and Kohout faces Republicans Armon Benny and Carol Carpenter.
Benny collected five votes and Macfarlane seven to Kohout’s 13 and Finn’s 139 in the primary.
Carol Carpenter received six write-in votes in the Scotia primary and will receive the Conservative line for November’s election.
Democrats appointed Finn to the District 3 seat in February, giving him the status of incumbent in the November election. He replaced Michael Eidens, D-Schenectady, who resigned in January to serve as a judicial hearing officer for the New York State Unified Court System.
The Rhinesmith faction tried to invalidate Finn’s and Kohout’s endorsements, but lost in a court decision. They then filed opportunity to ballot petitions, which allowed people to write in the names of other candidates for the Conservative line on Primary Day.
The Rhinesmith faction wanted the line to go to Benny in Scotia and Macfarlane in District 3.
In the Working Families Party primary, Mark Blanchfield defeated Joe Salamone, 61-29, to maintain the line in the Nov. 4 General Election for the 105th Assembly District. Blanchfield, a Democrat, is challenging incumbent Republican George Amedore Jr. for the seat.

I am glad that Mike L took another look at the results and is a lot closer now to what will be the actual number of seats controlled by the current leadership of the Party. It says that
Rhinesmith "won" 70 seats which could lead you to believe that they actually got more people out to vote in those districts, but I believe that includes the 52 seats they claimed to
already have,  SO- to clarify the actual results, I believe they won 18 seats on Tuesday out of a possible 200 or so.  The other 52 she claims to have were "won" with the assistance
and financing of Tedisco, Buchanan, Parisi, Santabarbara, etc.  Those 52 (which I would guess include many, many supporters of current leadership) were not up for grabs Tuesday
because of challenges filed and some clerical errors made by people collecting petitions months ago.

So, I believe the hiring of Spargo to file thousands of pages of protest, etc, the 2,700 flyers multiplied by 6 (at a cost of over $20,000), the door hangers, the robo calls, all of the
staff members of Jim Tedisco "taking their own time off", and assembling at Sherman's house on Monday, all of the door to door by Buchanan letting a young lady jump out of his car and run up to houses to drop literature off...............

All of that to capture 18 seats out of more than 200.  I was never good at math, but I think that would mean that current leadership kept more than 90% of the seats there were
contests in.  It would have been interesting to see how many current leadership would have if all 256 were up for grabs.  Tedisco, et al threw everything at them but the kitchen sink
and essentially gained 18 seats throughout the entire county.  As expected, the actions by these people resulted in doing nothing more than educating current leadership so that they never again forget to dot the i's and cross the t's on petitions.  I thanked you weeks ago for that and I will thank you again for educating these people.

I said weeks ago that hitching your wagon to the Rhinesmith crew was a mistake.  You did not listen and you chose to heed the advice of your political advisor, Kelly Rhinesmith.

In a way, I feel sorry for Assembly Minority Leader of the NYS Assembly Jim Tedisco for listening to his people who he so graciously and generously put on his staff and who he pays
dearly to advise him on political issues.  (He can't be expected to have his finger on the pulse of every community.)  He has to rely on competent people to advise him.

In this instance he was advised that Kelly Rhinesmith had hundreds of followers and the party was ripe for a takeover.  He was informed by his staff that the current leadership was not organized and would fold to
pressure.  He was told that every seat would be challenged and that Kelly had "her people" in place on the ballot in each district.

What they should have told him is that she never spoke to 75- 80% of the people she had running for those seats and that she had no chance of getting proxies from a vast majority of them- many of whom are true Conservatives and supporters of current leaders.

They should have told him that they felt they may lose every seat in the Town of Rotterdam.

They should have told him that the Rhinesmith effort resulted in dozens of new enrollments to the party throughout the county and they are not hers.

Unfortunately for Mr Tedisco, it appears that his Chief of Staff, Bill Sherman (based on his quotes from the previous Gazette story) still believes that this contest was a close one and
that current leaders need to work with Rhinesmith and her handful of supporters.  He is so bold, (and foolish I may add) to threaten that he will be back again for another crack at it.   He isn't smart enough to congratulate current leaders and move on.  He chooses to thank Rhinesmith and threaten to be back.........

If anyone here talks to Jim Tedisco- please advise him that his Chief of Staff is doing an excellent job and that Tom Buchanan's choice of political advisor- Kelly was also an excellent
one.

One more thing-  Mr Lamendola- please follow the money trail unless you believe that a few of Kelly's pals came up with the funds to pay for the aforementioned expenses.  I think
the fact that one of the most powerful Republicans in the state spent tens of thousands of dollars to take over a local Conservative Party is newsworthy.

The following is the party enrollments as of 11/2007:
http://www.elections.state.ny.us/NYSBOE/enrollment/county/county_nov07.pdf

Dem - 35,064
Rep -  29,838
BLANKS - 22,898
Ind  -  4117
Cons - 2884
WFP - 604
Grn -  280
Lib -   3

TOTAL - 95,689

Honestly, I don't even know what the big whoop is about this local conserv party. They are 4th from the bottom for party enrollment. They also historically have not made much of a  difference in Schenectady county politics since the county's majority is obviously very liberal. Schenectady county is OWNED by the liberal democrats. There are presently no conservative valued representation in our local county government that will make a difference for fiscal relief or accountability. I've said it before and I'll say it again...they spend our money like drunken sailers. And now that the local conservs will not work with the reps, who just 'may' have a conservative candidate...they are basically telling all of us taxpayers to.....'bend over'!

No wonder why there are 22,898 enrolled BLANKS.

What do you call a 'gargantuan amount of money'. In the scope of political campaigning....this was a drop in the bucket. I think that everyone is making a mountain out of a mole hill. Especially the gazette. We are talking about a 'little bitty' political party of less than 3,000. Who the hell cares? Really now!!

This local conservative party has done absolutely NOTHING for schenectady county. In case anyone hasn't noticed....this county is OWNED AND RUN by the democratic dictatorship. So like I said...who the hell cares about this  'little bitty party'?
