Some are also touting him as a possible Veep for McCain...

Well, if this guy, Steele, is really a good as he sounds, he would be a great choice for VP! Actually he 'sounds' better, and carries a better platform and ideology than both presidential candidates do now.

The position at FOX is in part to get him more national exposure.  He may be on the short list for Veep, but he still doesn't have enough "name recognition" to really garner a lot of enthusiasm or draw in a lot of voters.  He'll be a player in years to come though.

Well Obama was somewhat of a nobody either. Except in his case the media along with Oprah grabbed the ball and ran with it. Check the internet...every headline is OBAMA. Check the news papers. The front page is OBAMA. Watch any 24/7 news outlet. OBAMA makes the first story. People are wondering who Obama is even running against. (McCain who?)

If the media and Oprah marketed Steele like they did Obama, he would have been a front runner vp.

Scarce GOP candidates

While it's no secret the GOP is struggling throughout most of New York, in Schenectady, the once seemingly forever powerhouse Republican Party remains on life support.

Eight candidates are needed to oppose incumbent Democrats this fall – three on the City Council and five County Legislature members.

Two years ago, when the terms of four council seats held by Democrats were expiring, the GOP recruited only one opponent. For the first time ever, the GOP had a blank spot — actually three of them — on its party line.

GOP bodies were so scarce their lone council candidate was an enrolled Conservative. He finished last in the race, enabling Dems to continue unanimous council control
.

It's early in the process, but city GOP Chairman Mike Brockbank said candidates are still rare. He has one unnamed potential candidate. "We're having a rough time because many Republicans have moved to the suburbs,'' he said.

Incumbent Democratic Councilmen Gary McCarthy, Barbara Blanchard and Mark Blanchfield are expected to seek re-election.

It's pretty much the same story at the County Legislature. Democrats Phil Field, Karen Johnson, Judy Dagostino, Marty Finn and Brian Gordon are expected run again.

GOP leaders hope Mike Iacobucci, a former county legislator, will run against Field, but thus far the other Dems are without foes. "We're excited about Iacobucci because he's a strong, quality candidate,'' county GOP Chairman Tom Buchanan said.

I have heard that Viscusi and Zampino will get the endorsements to challenge Dagostino in District 4.

Well, let me say this.  I'm tired of all the junk that's going on.  I will leave it up to someone else, whether it be the head of one of the parties, or someone underneath them.  If the Republicans or the Conservatives are looking for someone to run on the County Legislature, it would be my honor to work along side Mr. Santabarbara.

Maybe I got the first name wrong.  WilliamTheSilent posted about his attendance at the party fundraiser.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
