Hello, My name is Rick Gentile and I am running for supervisor. I am a school teacher in Schenectady and a resident of Rotterdam for 40 years. I am running on a simple platform of: listening to my constituents, learning from what they have to offer, and leading our town how they see fit. Take care, Rick
I met an older gentleman this afternoon. He said he has lived in the town his whole life and very rarely has he met a politician that was not self-serving. I mentioned that I was interested in this idea. How have we become so self-absorbed that we don't see what is in front of us? Prices are at an all-time high, families are not what they used to be, people don't talk to each other, information is vague at best, etc. I told him that I didn't have the answers but was willing to work on these items if I were elected. He smiled and went on his way.
Last post (2): I am running for office because I believe in this town. I would like to see a town center where you can have a birthday party or a retirement party. I would like to see a town where our officials are available. Not just during town meetings but every day. I would like to see a representative at the local supermarket. I would like to see an opening day pitch at the local Little League. I would like to see an official during our snowfalls, maybe riding in the plow trucks. I would like to see him/her walking in my neighborhood when it is not election season, just to be present. I believe in the simplicity and richness of towns and intend to bring this back.
Last post (3): I remember reading that "no one cares what you know until they know you care." It is a sincere observation. I meet people every day that want to tell me "who they are, what they are" and never take time to figure out who, what I am. I am tired of the "I-me-mine" approach to politics and, more generally, conversations as we know them. It is important to spend time with people, even those that that don't agree with us, because we may learn something.
I wish you luck Mr. Gentile. but can i be candid here? I moved up and out of rotten-dam a while ago....but can sway votes there. and although i won't be voting in rotten-dam, i have somethings to inject here....
-what is the largest part of the rotten-dam budget and what are you going to do to reduce it? -what is your plan for the congested roads that is already plaguing rotten-dam with all of the mfh's that are popping up all over? - what are you going to do about the failing infrastructure? -what is your take on the forced sewer taxation on hamburg street? -how will you reduce taxes for rotten-damians? -how will you handle the 'pay to play' that is very much alive and well in rotten-dam?
i could go on and on, but i'm sure you are more than aware of the practices that have plagued rotten-dam for decades.
rotten-dam has suffered through dems and reps over and over again and yet nothing changes. ........so with that said, who do you think is REALLY in control of rotten-dam?
and as a side note, most folks i know in rotten-dam don't vote!! no confidence. (just a heads up there)
again....best of luck to you sir.

Thank you for replying. One of the major underpinnings of your concern(s) has to do with our local economy. I am interested in pursuing our responsible share of sales tax from the county. It appears that we receive 3-4 million dollars from our roughly 100 million received by county sales tax. I think this is the best place to start the conversation.

I think the conversation should start at lowering taxes, not how to redistribute them. That used to be the Republican platform at one time.

I think the 100 million the county steals from residents in the form of sales tax is excessive and I believe that money would be most beneficial in the pockets of those that earned the money.
Schenectady County has a population of 155,000 and collects $100,000,000 in sales tax. That's approximately $645 annually collected off of every man woman and child. So a family of 4 pays about $2580 annually in sales tax. That's absurd.
I think the sales tax issue is a smart one to explore this election season.
Is your plan to get a better redistribution of county sales tax because the property taxes collected in Rotterdam only funds one town service? Are sales taxes the only way to fill budget gaps.
