Hi Susan, the Gazette had articles about the ATM robbery on Altamont Ave. It really is good you brought the topic it up.
We have to be so attentive when using ATM's, even if it is one of those drive up ones.
Whenever I use one at Stewarts I get my cash first, then shop in the store for a bit then I look out the door before I leave the store to see who is hanging around outside. I don't put my wallet back in my back jeans pocket I put it in the front pocket with my hand on it. I do not carry my purse into the store. I leave it hidden under the seat of the car.
The other thing is when parking your car and returning to it watch around for vans there was this woman going around accosting shoppers then when the driver was getting in car or even in it already a van rushes up and the lady demands your purse etc. then they take off. She was pulling this all over the city and in Rotterdam at the Post Office there, in Walmarts parking lot in front of DSS on Broadway.
It hit the news then the story disappeared. I don't know if they arrested her or she took off.
The folks that hang out around the Stewarts on Nott Terrace are real iffy. I don't go there any more if I can help it. To many times harassed by pan handlers and they are so fast there is nothing the store employees can do. They try to keep them away.
When my friends and I would ride our motorcycles in the NE we would use Stewarts as our stopping points. Had nice picnic tables and good ice cream and coffee and clean bathrooms but in the city Brandywine and Nott Terrace don't have those options with the tables outside. You should see the gruff the employees put up with at the Nott Terrace and Brandywine stores. You would never get me to work in either of those stores. And the thing that amazes me is how the employees always are nice no matter what.
As far as breakins Rotterdam sure has had a lot of those burglaries etc.this past year. I don't think Rotterdam has enough police officers for the change in how things are going in the town. Instead of paying overtime they should be hiring more police.
I must say. Every Rotterdam cop I ever met was always nice, no cocky attitudes and very respectful. Seems to me they are the ones that are doing all the tickets for unlicesnces drivers, uninsured, unregistered vehicles that all come out of Schenectady. The Schenectady cops are too busy with all the domestic violence calls, there is no way they can do traffic enforcement too.
