Troopers arrest Rotterdam man after foot pursuit

August 11, 2016 05:15 AM

ALBANY -- New York State Police say Aaron Merritt was involved in hit and runs and then went on the run right down I-90.

Police say they got a call on Wednesday for a man running down the side of I-90 near Everett Road. When police arrived, they found Merritt, who they say had been running through a wooded area towards Central Avenue.

State Police say Merritt had left his car on I-90 after being involved in a number of hit and run accidents.

After being taken into custody, police gave Merritt a breathalyzer test. He blew a .18, more than twice the legal limit.

Merritt is charged with aggravated DWI, felony aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle and other traffic citations. He'll be arraigned in city of Albany court Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m.

But wait....there are several past and present on this forum that insist DWI/DUI are VICTIMLESS CRIMES!
I wonder how many of those "hit and run" victims would agree!

A "hit and run" committed while sober is not a crime?

Yeah...only if the were more DWI checkpoints to make sure everybody is sober, this could have been prevented.  Call your reps, demand more checkpoints.

Lol...You believe intoxication was the crime, how predictable. Dummy...

Let me guess, you believe that when a man is drunk while beating his wife, the man is guilty of BWWI, Beating Wife While Intoxicated?  How about the person that is drunk while robbing a 7-11?  Let me guess, they are guilty of SWI, Stealing While Intoxicated.  Therefor, ALL men that are intoxicated around their wives, and ALL people that walk into 7-11 while intoxicated, are criminals because they are Intoxicated.  And it has been determined there is a chance they MAY commit a crime while intoxicated.  So if some people MAY commit crimes and harm others while they are intoxicated, ALL are considered a criminal for being intoxicated.

Let me guess, you believe that when a man is drunk while beating his wife, the man is guilty of BWWI, Beating Wife While Intoxicated? DOMESTIC VIOLENCE and likely use intoxication as a defense!
How about the person that is drunk while robbing a 7-11?  Let me guess, they are guilty of SWI, Stealing While Intoxicated THEFT....DUH! Would use intoxication as defense!
Therefor, ALL men that are intoxicated around their wives, and ALL people that walk into 7-11 while intoxicated, are criminals because they are Intoxicated.  NO...they are criminals because they committed crimes!
And it has been determined there is a chance they MAY commit a crime while intoxicated.  So if some people MAY commit crimes and harm others while they are intoxicated, ALL are considered a criminal for being intoxicated.
Well, that's SISSY LOGIC...i.e. makes no sense but because Sissy says so then Sissy believes it to be true....NOT!!!!!

No A$$WIPE...as an intelligent person (something that escapes you), intoxication was
the catalyst that caused the crime. It is a logical assumption that had they not been
intoxicated, they likely would not have hit the others.  If you still cannot grasp
that logical understanding, see if you can find a 10 yr old to explain it to you!
