Great program ... Great people running it and learning/growing with it. Shout out #1 to Jennifer Lawrence who founded it and keeps making it all possible -- keep up the great work! Shout out #2 to Jermaine Wright who is not only on the staff there but is a shining star in life and on the Food Network's "All Star Academy (Sunday night at 9 P.M. on TWC channel 42) -- you got the passion (for everything that you do) and compassion (for others) to make a HUGE difference in our community and in the world! Shout out #3 to all the wonderful young people training in the program -- you ARE our community's future and want you to know that many folks in the community are extremely proud of you and your accomplishments.

Really? In what way does a 10-15 hr. course make a HUGE difference in the community?
Environmental Stewardship: 10 hrs.
Your Role in the Green Environment: 15 hrs.
OSHA 10 hour Construction Worker Certification 10 hrs. (This one actually made me laugh)
Community Outreach & Sales 10 hrs. (Didn't Obama take this one?)

The S.E.A.T. Center is more than just a 15 hour course. It welcomes in young people who want to get back on the right track and learn employable skills. It prepares young people to take and pass the HSE/TASC in order to get their high school diploma. They also teach the young people skills to work in construction. More than just a 10 hour certification course. They actually learn and use their skills working with Habitat for Humanity and other projects that work to provide affordable housing. They also have a partnership with a company that produces energy efficient storm windows, and install them at low cost to senior citizens and folks with limited income. That is only the beginning - the S.E.A.T. Center has just "taken root" and will eventually expand its offerings. Finally - an most importantly - the S.E.A.T. Center gives hope and a hand up to young people who need some guidance and a second chance.

We are advised NOT to judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics. Funny how that works.
first....is this being paid for with tax payer dollars?
second....yet another program proving that schools, boces, votec and parents aren't doing a very good job....eh?

They had better screen the adults that work there better, there is a woman currently working with youth there that fostered a child, had sexual relations with the child and continues to manipulate the young woman who is now of age

First ... It operates with a mix of both government and private funding, and every dollar spent to turn around someone's life is a lot less expensive to society than the dollars spent dealing with the repercussions of NOT turning that life around.
Second ... Not really. Young people get "off the right track" even at the best schools and with the best parents.
Bottomline ... SEAT Center is a very good thing and does make a HUGE difference in our community by making a HUGE difference in the lives of those who participate in its programs.

How are you measuring that? What is the metric that shows this saving? Every social program since I've been born has claimed this same thing. I think the social measuring stick is broken. Year in and year out, the cost of "society" continues to get MORE expensive.

It is only logical that spending money for a few months or a year on a program that helps a person get their H.S. diploma and job training that leads to a life-time of employment is going to be much less expensive than a lifetime of spending on social welfare and/or incarceration, if the person really gets lost. It really is a very simple concept to understand.

Logic tells me that a few months of "job training" doesn't reverse 18 years of parental neglect and poor work ethic. If the millions of dollars spent on public school programs isn't succeeding at preparing people for a lifetime of employment, then logic tells me more money for a few months of training will not fix the 13 years of public school failure.
What government funded program will be created to fix this failed program? It's never ending. A program on top of program, on top of program...the only people with meaningful employment are the people that are employed to run the program. And how do they make sure they stay employed???? They make sure they always have customers...social decay is job security.
The program to get a H.S. diploma is named HSE/TASC (High School Equivalency/Test Assessing Secondary Completion) ... it is not called task.
Anyway, the SEAT Center is a good thing run by good people who are helping give our young folks a second chance and putting them on track to be employable, contributing members of society. Having met some of the young folks who are being or have benefited from the program(s), I am confident that every dollar is well spent and that these young folks are the type of folks I want as my neighbors and fellow members of this community. (Can't say that about the constantly, negative nayboobs.)
