Have ya checked Altamont's taxes?
Guilderland/Albany....huge....just in school taxes alone!

all in all....it was a smart move for them.

Settles Hill Road is in the Altamont zip code area but not in the village of Altamont.  So they would be paying property taxes to the Town of Guilderland, Guilderland CSD and County of Albany.  Not saying that those aren't high .. just saying they wouldn't be paying village taxes.

Hardly.   I think you need to check your math.

Schenectady school tax rate for 2015-2016 is $22.72
Guilderland school tax rate for 2015-2016 is $22.30

A house with a $150,000 market value in Schenectady will pay $3,444 in school taxes.
A house with a $150,000 market value in Guilderland will pay just $2,401 in school taxes (even with a smaller STAR dollar amount)

The math is that in Schenectady, the house with a market value will show on the assessment roll with an assessment value of $181,500.  So do the math, bumble.   That assessment value multiplied by the tax rate of $22.72 is $4,123, then subtract that maximum basic STAR savings for Schenectady of $679 and the school tax bill is $3,444

The math is that in Guilderland, the house with a market value will show on the assessment roll with an assessment value of $132,000.  So the math, bumble.  That assessment value multiplied by the tax rate of $22.30 is 42,943, then subtract the maximum basic STAR savings for Guilderland of $542 and the school tax bill is $2,401.

And remember that the house in Schenectady, since McCarthy absolutely refuses to do a reassessment, while it appears on the assessment roll as assessed for $181,500, which shows on the assessment roll with a market value of $150,000, probably really has a market value of $125,000 or less.  Speaking of a lesser market value, bumble, do you remember the house at 1077 Glenwood Bldg.  McCarhy has it assessed for $182,000.  The owners initially listed it asking just $149,000.  It went through several price reductions and no one wanted buy (which proves the market value was not as high as the owners were asking).  It took a whopping 1 year and 9 months to sell.  And it sold for only $101,760.  The school tax bill with basic STAR is $3,455 for 2015 to 2016

Really, how good is Schenectady when you pay $3,400 in school taxes alone, with an exemption on a house worth under $102,000.

So my guess is that the Sindoni business fled the city because for the market value, the taxes in Schenectady far exceed Guilderland.  Property values in Guilderland are increasing while property value in Schenectady are falling.

I didn't say I had 'math'....only personal experience to compare to.

and Altamont was higher....by our personal experience and comparability.

A wise business decision and a great locally produced product. They outgrew their Mt P roots. No smart business person would expand and want to pay additional outrageous County/City taxes.
Of course any other County planner would try and keep this in the County but at least we gots the battery plant and Quirky.

Just like I have always said....if the reps were in control of the money pit.....the only thing that would be different would be the names and faces of the friends and family club!!!

The arguing is just plain foolishness.

Sindoni's produces a great product.  I wish them well in their new location and plan on visiting them soon to buy some of their products.

Not 100% sure, but probably because this was not a huge building, not a huge property, not some huge factory.

The lot size for the whole property is 35 x 130, very small

Seems the "business portion" was just a wee 548 sq ft and the rest of the building is 3 small rental units.
