The 14th Amendment to the Constitution was ratified on July 9, 1868, and granted citizenship to “all persons born or naturalized in the United States,” which included former slaves recently freed. In addition, it forbids states from denying any person "life, liberty or property, without due process of law" or to "deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.” By directly mentioning the role of the states, the 14th Amendment greatly expanded the protection of civil rights to all Americans and is cited in more litigation than any other amendment.



The amendment addresses citizenship rights and equal protection of the laws, and was proposed in response to issues related to former slaves following the American Civil War.

Don't worry about that ole amendment.  In 1941, approximately 130k Japanese, German, and Italian Americans were forcibly sent to internment camps.

If only the 14th stopped at "All persons born or naturalized in the United States"....Everyone might think it does, but it doesn't.

But some lawyers say that the 'jurisdiction' is the united states.....some disagree.
this amendment was originally created for the freed slaves.
it's interesting to be 150 years out, since the amendment was written and seeing lawyers debate it's intent.
we'll have to see how it plays out in the courts I guess.

If you want to understand what is happening in the country right now.....it is the frustrations and the demands for change from the electorate.
Everyone can see that there is a clear message of disgust for the political system with it's lies, corruption and failure.
don't know if he'd be a good pres or not.....not enough info yet to form an opinion.....but everyone does know that he is shaking up the media and the status quo corrupt political system.
he makes folks think 'differently'......'out of the box' so to say.
too early in the game....got 1 1/2 years to go......a lot can and most likely will happen before election day.

'Jurisdiction' has nothing to do with geographic location but with national affiliation. The intent of Section 1 is well documented and in very plain English.

Nope!  

Article 1, Section 8, Clause 4: Congress shall have the power...

To establish a uniform rule of naturalization, and uniform laws on the subject of bankruptcies throughout the United States;

Congress sets the rules and limitations on immigration, not anybody else. Not the USSC, not the POTUS or any other part of government.

It's been done too. When the 14th was passed, Native Americans (Indians) were not included because, at the time, Congress felt as if the Indians had an allegiance to their national tribes. They were not US citizens.
Congress revisited this in the 1920's and reversed their decision. They decided that under the 14th and using their power under Article 1 that Indians be granted citizenship and *Poof* all of them became US citizens.

No signature needed by the President....No court ruling.
