Suspect arrested after assault leaves Schenectady officer hospitalized Updated: Saturday, August 1 2015, 10:42 AM EDT
SCHENECTADY -- The Schenectady Police Department has made an arrest this morning, following an early-morning assault that left one officer in the hospital with a skull fracture. Lt. mark McCracken reports that Patrolman Mark Weekes saw two individuals walking on Broadway near State Street shortly after 2 a.m., and that one of them appeared to be intoxicated, dancing in the roadway with a traffic cone. Weekes instructed the individual, James D. Hilton, 32, of Glens Falls, to return the cone and walk on the sidewalk. A few minutes later, Weekes saw Hilton again, walking west on State Street and still carrying the cone. When he attempted to take Hilton into custody, the interaction became physical. MCCracken said Hilton threw Weekes over his shoulder and then punched him repeatedly until Weekes lost consciousness. A K9 unit tracked Hilton from the scene to a dumpster where he was found nhiding. Hilton is charged with one count of Assault on a Police Officer, a Class C felony, and one count of Resisting Arrest, a misdemeanor. Hilton was arraigned and remanded without bail to the Schenectady County Sheriff's Department jail. He is due back in court Monday, Aug. 3. Weekes remains hospitalized with a skull fracture. How long he will remain there, and when he will be able to return to work, are not clear at this time. McCracken thanked the Glenville, Rotterdam and Scotia Police Departments, as well as the Schenectady County Sheriff's Department, for their aid.

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
