Updated: Tuesday, July 28 2015, 03:33 AM EDT SCHENECTADY -- Police are looking for who was involved in the shooting death of an 18-year-old male.
Sgt. Adriel Linyear of the Schenectady Police Department tells CBS6 News officers were called to the 500 Block of Schenectady Street just before 10 p.m. Monday.
The victim was treated at the scene for a gunshot wound to the upper body and rushed to Ellis Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police are asking anyone with information to give them a call.
More cheers for the city, "...is improving." Again, we ask, FOR WHOM?
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
it is shameful and sad to see a city in such an absolute mess.
however.....this is the culture we live in today.....very violent!

a friend of mine taught the 18 yr man back when he was in elementary school. She has fond memories of him. These teens who are so reckless with their lives and the lives of others were not always bad. They were not always jaded and pessimistic about their futures. They had hopes and dreams and thought they could have a good life. It is a shame that we keep seeing this over and over again. It's seldom that these shooting occur out of the blue, and I'm sure that his own decisions played a role in the lead up to this event. I wish we could make these young kids see the value that they have.

They are raised in a war zone where all minorities are targeted for factory based prison labor camps.
They escalated the drug war to epic proportions to the point where Schenectady is the new Baghdad.
Let's see, the woman who helping the kids learn the value they have to the city, after the city took away the garden they worked so hard on, offered to buy it back. The city council (all except one) voted not to sell it to them. That's the value they have, the same city council that voted how much money to go to a wealthy developer to knock down his own building, wouldn't accept $500 for a lousy patch of dirt in a bad neighborhood, to put it to good use? What a bunch of #$%!!@!! Who does that?
are minorities really targeted, or are they the majority of the ones committing the crimes?
don't make them out to be the victims either.
perhaps in some cases....but come one.....the 60's were much more violent and out of control.
cops weren't anyones friend back then either....remember kent state and how many were hauled off to jail?
nobody is or was brought up in a leave it to beaver home...but yet we survived and didn't turn to violence.
again....personal choice!

Statistics show that whites commit just as many crimes as minorities but are less likely to be arrested, less likely to be convicted, and receive lighter sentences.
To me that seems like targeting, especially in light of information that demonstrated that young black males receive harsher punishments for the same behavior as white males beginning in elementary school. You tell an 8 year old that they are inherently worse, by nature, than their white counterparts, repeatedly, and they will begin to meet that expectation.
Yes, there is of course choice, and each person must face the consequences of their choices, but let's face it, whites are allowed second and third chances far more often than minorities are.

this may be true........but where did you get those stats....and is this nationally?

If you look at raw statistics, that's certainly believable...but what about per capita?

The report I had initially viewed included FBI stats and Pew Research stats. It included a variety of crimes with the similar patterns of discrepancy among races. The article below is all I can find at the moment though without going into acedemic search engines, which quite honestly, I am feeling far too lazy to do at the moment. This one pertains to marijuana use among races vs arrest rates. Drug use is fairly consistent among races, yet possession charges are much higher for blacks.
