I was there right after the police arrived, they have the road closed and reconstruction forensics is being performed.
There were personal belongings strewn for over 50 yards where the motorcycle ended up.
Looks like maybe he hit the curb on the center section. |

From looking at the photos is this right around where you cross State street going South and the right hand curb juts out just before where the old dinner used to be. If so I am not surprised if they find the motorcyclist hit it or ran up over this particular area of curbing..
The first time I traveled southbound in this area I saw a potential for cars hitting it and flipping.
The other area on Erie is the end of it, the loop back is improperly designed. Go take a look at all the tire marks on the shoulders of it. Again the first time i used it to go back Northbound I wondered who the incompetent designer was. It is evident they don't have a clue how to design it for a realistic application. |

Between GE and State Street there are 5,000 signs.
You couldn't read them all if you tried. |

Well it was the curb area I mention that they hit. I think the family should follow up on this. They claim speed was a factor something doesn't add up. http://www.timesunion.com/news.....18.php#photo-8337015 |

I got it from a very good source that they ran the light at state and erie and that's why their speed was up. I ride the same type of bike they did....its a heavy touring bike that does not turn on a dime, and I can see easily a REAL possibility of clipping that curb when speeding.... |

Being a motorcycle enthusiast for many years I understand the principles of push left or push right to maneuver a bike. Ok lets say they were going fast it still seems to me as I drive south on Erie over State that right curb is like a wall juting out and I still say something about the lane setups and the narrowing at that point played a role. It is so sad to see two folks so into riding and doing so much for charities through their love of riding were lost to our biking community. |

Oh... I totally agree with you about the curbs,,, I noticed that myself riding my bike down Erie before the accident...the speed reduced the reaction time and probably upset the suspension as the brakes were applied the same time as a turn was attempted (there were a couple sets of skid marks). |

This is such a terrible terrible tragedy. There were so many factors. Skids means he locked up the wheels not a good sign if they were released during the skid like you mention there where two sets. I just am bothered by this accident cause I have seen this lane narrowing and that curb as disturbing me every time I travel there and wonder the role that played.
May they be with their God now. Condolences to their family and friends. |

When you cross State Street you may not be able to move to your right, because the right hand lane on the North side lines up with the left hand lane on the south side. they may have been pushed to the left by someone in the right lane that just went straight, instead of shifting to the right. I have had close calls with people in that area who just weren't paying close attention to where they were before and after the intersection. One was a really big box truck that came right over and forced me to swerve. |

to say speed was a factor....that's debateable....but even driving a car at that spot......very dangerous......
this needs to be addressed before the next tragedy....
God bless this couple who were so giving....and enjoyed the "freedom " of the ride.....

Hope their families sue the city and plex for that utterly stupid and unnecessary re-do of Erie Blvd. Big waste of taxpayer money, taxpayers got nothing in return but lower home values and higher taxes. And now, loss of life.
Screw those dems and their "rah rah" cheerleaders. |

Cel and L4L, I notice a rather harrowing 'shifting' going on at that spot, depending on how much traffic there is. Also I can see where someone approaching the green light at State might be tempted to just keep going, if it turns red, if they are on a bike, the lights on that stretch aren't synchronized and haven't been forever. I must have seen people speeding on that stretch a thousand times, never have I seen a fatality like that result. That morning, I was downtown, which I almost never am at that hour on a Saturday, and I saw the procession of bikers. The strange thing is that I thought it might have been a funeral because they were following what appeared to be a hearse. |
