I avoid that area at all costs anyway! doing it on a weekend would cost too much.....overtime!

Remember the stories about various entities cutting holes in the roads without proper permits? Word had gotten around that in Schenectady, anything goes. National Grid would surely accepted whatever restrictions the city wanted to place on them. One always wants to think that someone is paying attention to these things, but in Schenectady, that isn't the case, and hasn't been for a long time. At least old gas lines are being replaced, it is high time. I was worried for a while that we were going to be seeing manhole covers flying and flames shooting out, as happened in Albany. Somewhat related, the story in the TU about the City Squire closing, there were comments, and someone mentioned that they avoided Union Street because of the traffic lights, and it wasn't me! I thought I was the only person noticing this! The turn lanes someone erroneously had painted at Baker and Union Street have faded away, btw, which is a good thing because there was no need, and a right turn arrow painted on the pavement where there is no right on red is confusing to drivers. What isn't a good thing is that the paint keeps fading away too fast in places like Union and Seward westbound, and Union and Nott Terrace eastbound.
It wasn't that bad driving on Erie Boulevard this morning nor early this afternoon.

Union is so hit and miss. My daughter does taekwondo and some days trying to walk across the street, or get out of a parking spot feels like a game of Russian roulette. Other times, it's dead. Very little in between.
That is an unusual feature of the upper Union Street area. Balltown Road, for instance, I can judge almost exactly when it will have heavy traffic, and avoid it, but on Union Street it might be a Wednesday afternoon and it suddenly gets very busy.
