A city man was hospitalized after being shot in the leg early Sunday morning on a Schenectady street in the Hamilton Hill neighborhood, according to authorities.
Mayor Gary McCarthy confirmed the shooting Monday night.
He said the police department did not put out a news release in part because the police spokesman is on vacation.
The victim, whose name has not been released, has refused to cooperate with police.
He told investigators that he was fighting when he was shot by another person on the 500 block of Paige Street.
The injured man was then apparently driven to Mont Pleasant where he was found by cops after a buddy called 9-1-1.
He was subsequently transported to Ellis Hospital where he remained as of Monday morning, said authorities.
The shooting happened a short distance from where Lesean Gause, 19, was gunned down last week outside Zaid Food Mart on Albany Street between Craig and Hulett streets.
