No one, no how, no way should be told where to live.
....
So will you all be happier and stop bit@hing if all city workers lived in the city? NOPE!
Do you folks HONESTLY think things would change? NOPE! OF COURSE NOT!!
I guess the old saying is true....misery loves company!!!
Residency laws and telling people where they can live is just BIZARRE TO ME!!!
Stupid law!
In Rotterdam for instance, if your can got broke by the truck, the company would provide you another, you don't buy the can. Heck if you don't pay the bill, they will take the cans during collection. But in the town, we don't have to pay to buy new cans, of course, we (ourselves) have never had to even have a can replaced, the only thing that changed was the change of bins when recyclables were separated to the new single stream can.
But in the city, if your can gets broke by the city worker, you, the homeowner must go to the store and by a new can out of your own pocket. So I would think if workers had to live in the city, where they would be paying the highest taxes around, if they are trash collection workers they could be less likely to bang the cans on the truck and break them. And even at the top, that Olsen guy, he didn't live in the city, he didn't have to shell out money for new cans, but more importantly he didn't have to live where trash was piled up on curbs just in bags ripped open by vermin and scavengers, if he did maybe he would have enforced the city's laws.
Cops that live outside of the city, they don't care, they don't have to worry about their children getting shot at while playing in the neighborhood playground or the school playground. They--not all, but most of them--only care about padding their paychecks and going home to their upscale homes outside of the city, even outside of the county, where things are safer. Maybe if they were required to live in the city where they would be paying the highest taxes around while their home values are falling, they would actually take their jobs more seriously, get involved in things going on in the city, etc. The police chief, he takes the city taxpayers' money and flees the city
How can one expect city workers to be cost effective on the job when they don't have their tax bills increased because of their poor effectiveness on the job
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

That may be the dumbest most ignorant statement you've ever made. Do you know that for a fact or is that just your opinion? Have you actually talked to a cop who lives outside the city and has said cop actually said to you "I don't care what happens in the city, I'm just here to pick up a paycheck."?
I guess it's true, you really can't fix stupid.
"I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked, dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn looking for an angry fix,"

I guess the analogy that could be used is - do you buy product from the company you work for, or do you buy from your competitor? Ex: if you work for Price Chopper do you shop at Hannaford?

Hey Alva...you thought MC1's statements was stupid...guess Sissy trying to out do them with his ignorant analogy!!! Not gonna fix that "stupid" either
JUST BECAUSE SISSY SAYS SO DOESN'T MAKE IT SO...BUT HE THINKS IT DOES!!!!! JUST BECAUSE MC1 SAYS SO DOESN'T MAKE IT SO!!!!!

I was going to say that at least Cicero made a reasonable analogy, but after reading it over 6 times and thinking to myself what the f***!!!, methinks he better put the crack pipe away.
"I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked, dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn looking for an angry fix,"
MC1...do you honestly think and know for a fact that ALL city/county EMPLOYEES don't give a sh!t?
that is quite a stretch!!
When the INSANE are running the ASYLUM In individuals, insanity is rare; but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule. -- Friedrich Nietzsche
“How fortunate for those in power that people never think.” Adolph Hitler

LOL, no it's true, I'm sure I saw Mike and Christine in front of city hall, the police dept. and fire dept, as well as the Public works building asking all the employees that very question....yes I'm sure it was them....I know because it was two "intelligent adults" with a concerned look on there faces having each employee respond to their questioning that they do in fact not give a sh*t and are only here to collect a paycheck....really, honest, that a FACT...........bwahhahahahahaha

Yeah...they earn their paycheck providing a service in Schenectady, but they won't live in and pay the taxes for the services they provide. Living outside the city you earn your living from is like working at the Ford manufacturing plant and buying Toyota's. I'll make my money building them, but I'd never be caught dead in the overpriced piece of sh*t. Lol
Comparing PRIVATE SECTOR to residency requirements of PUBLIC SERVICE...now there is a great analogy, again....how stupid can one be???? Show me where it says that if you want to work for FORD then you must buy a Ford and cannot own another brand of vehicle as a requirement of employment!!!! DUH!!!!!!!
Then "public servants" should read their job requirements and not accept a job with residency requirements. They are free to choose a job that doesn't require it.
So Sissy SUPPORTS the law...doesn't support the law...supports the law....doesn't support the law.....supports the law.....doesn't support the law....... OH HELL, I can only conclude that Sissy supports not supporting the supporting of the law that he doesn't support but has supported!

It's a stupid law, just like residency law is to enroll in a public school district. But like I said, if you are going to force people to pay taxes for services, and you earn your money through forced taxation, then you should live in the city and pay the taxes. I prefer free markets, this wouldn't even be an issue. But since there is a class of parasites that negotiate contracts for wages by forcing the people they serve to pay them, and if not, they could go to jail. Then I don't see anything wrong with the residents forced to pay their salary forcing them to live in and pay the taxes that are collected to pay their salary. What is good for the goose....
The fact that many that are employed by the City of Schenectady don't live in Schenectady, is like being employed by Ford And buying Toyota. It's admitting your product sucks, and another municipality makes a better product.

You persist with stupidity and it only dispels all doubt that you are stupid. You love to compare apples with bowling balls and throw in unrelated bias with your comments. Being a jackass is your life's ambition....SUCCESS!!

Yes, but everyone has the option to send their children to a private school, in or out of their district. There are charter schools available in many areas. Or, you can even homeschool. Public school enrollment isn't forced, it is. The easiest and cheapest for most, but not forced.
So according to the Gazette the other day all the steel for the casino/Alco development will not be purchased locally, not even next door from the steel company the project abuts, but not even w/in New York State. With all the giveaways to the project developers ( pollution clean up,free dirt from Balltown Rd. the State said it did not need etc.) you'd think the State would of required The Galessi Group to purchase some steel locally or at least w/in NYS. Help the NYS/local job force. Shop locally? Naw.
