the golden egg would be providing 'good paying' jobs that the METROPLEX/GILLEN promised over a decade ago!!
instead the rich developers are getting richer by building mfh units for these poor bast@rds.
how 'bout lowering the already tax burdened home owner's taxes?
you're just moving the poor folks from one building to another.....it's clearly NOT a 'hand up'!!!
soooooooooooooo we can assume that this REALESTATE company is going to pay FULL property tax BASED on 100% REAL PROPERTY ASSESSMENT even tho they proclaim to be a not-for-profit....yes?

Not defending Metroplex...but the example of failure of promised jobs is not an exclusive. PILOTs and other programs around NYS have all had same failures...few new jobs, companies going belly up; employees getting laid off, etc. Something has to change for these programs to actually work, but no political schmuck will step up to the plate to propose improvements. Hilary promised 50k new jobs when she ran for Senate, but after elected and challenged on this, excuse was that her party didn't win (i.e. Bush won). Funny how that wasn't part of the promise when she was stumping for Senate election!!!!
JUST BECAUSE SISSY SAYS SO DOESN'T MAKE IT SO...BUT HE THINKS IT DOES!!!!! JUST BECAUSE MC1 SAYS SO DOESN'T MAKE IT SO!!!!!
It would be nice if the the nayboobs would check their facts before they start bashing and crying crocodile tears.
The project is NOT being undertaken by Schenectady Municipal Housing. It is being undertaken by:
DePaul Properties, Inc -- which is "a progressive, private not-for-profit organization committed to providing quality senior living residential services; mental health residential and treatment programs; addiction prevention and support PROGRAMS, vocational programs and affordable housing. DePaul was founded in Rochester, New York in 1958. Today, DePaul provides services in 19 counties across three states and serves nearly 5,000 individuals each year."
Also, the article states that BOTH businesses on the proposed site are relocating WITHIN THE NEIGHBORHOOD.
Finally, the nayboobs cry crocodile tears over the many other projects in the city .. the nayboobs feign (fake) concern for the poor .. but then get upset when the city announces that a PRIVATE entity wants to invest $14 million building housing for seniors and low-income families.
Can you address the following questions??????
1. That there already is an OVER ABUNDANCE of EXISTING VACANT residential units for rent AND the existing ones are ON the tax rolls
2. This project will involved receiving tax payer dollars AND will NOT pay one penny in property or school taxes! That means taking EXISTING TAXED properties OFF the tax rolls, thus causing MORE REDUCTION of the tax base in the city.
3. Are the existing businesses going to move to TAXABLE property?
4. WHY do you CHEER CHEER CHEER for the wild and uncontrolled spending of taxpayer dollars on projects that are either UNNECESSARY (e.g., "fancy lighting) as well spending the taxpayers' money to create tax exempt properties thus causing a reduction in the tax base.
Tell us DV, do you have the guts to address what has been happening to the tax base in the city? You keep bragging that all these projects are going to help the city's tax base. Can you please explain what impact all these projects have had on the tax base so far? Or are you too much of a coward to answer that?
Naturally, since you are NOT taxpayer, you can cheer for your buddies to steal from the taxpayers.
Gee, DV, you probably qualify for renting in those apartments, yes? Since you claim the city is oh so wonderful, surely then you will be first to fill out an application right? You just can't wait to move into the city, right? ROFL, 50+ year old baby boy will NEVER grow up and become normal, will you?
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
A goose could lay an egg made of pure gold and give it to the city -- and the nayboobs would find something about the egg to whine and moan about.
You don't even realize that the golden egg has already been given to the "city." Several times. Hundreds of millions of state and federal dollars from the taxpayers of which you are NOT one. The gold has been taken by the city leadership and shared with their party faithful in the county, with plex, and with their political cronies who do not pay taxes and. like you, wouldn't dream of living IN the city.
We are waiting to see the day come when private business movies in without any bribes using the taxpayers' money, and will build or renovate entirely with their own money, not a penny of taxpayer money. And when they create decent paying jobs. And still waiting for stores to open downtown where you can actually buy things other than little gift trinkets that will become dust collectors upon receipt. And waiting to see when the tax base increases and taxes on the homeowners goes down.

The city planners making plans for low income housing because there are no plans for high income residents.
Your statement is absolutely untrue. During the McCarthy administration projects have been built and announced for a wide range of income level resident.
I do recall the nayboobs being all worked up, FAKING concern and crying crocodile tears claiming that the Mayor McCarthy was not concerned with the poor. The FACT is that the nayboobs are a bunch of lying hypocrites who suffer from PPT.

I wouldn't call expanding the number of low income housing being "concerned with the poor". I call it responding to a growing city demographic and a good way to get state funding.
In NYC a serious concern for those that have disabilities, ie mental health and or substance abuse issues is the lack of housing. So instead of increasing the housing in NYC for these folks they will just send them to Schenectady.
I believe in helping those disabled, those with Serious Mental Health or dually diagnosed with Mental Health and Substance abuse issues but there are serious flaws in how SSI money is doled out to those with Dual Diagnosis. Many get their checks on the first and it is party time. Just look at what happens on the first at Summit towers. Those with the substance abuse issues should have to line up for tests showing they are clean before getting their checks. There is no incentive to want to get off the drugs.
Just watch how many from NYC with the dual diagnosis will be showing up on our doorstep to get in on this housing. Right from the start this 14m housing project should demand at least 1 year residency in our city before being eligible but that will never happen.
The other thing is will they be opening up applications for Sec 8 the wait to get on it is long and it has been some time since they have opened up applying for it. Watch this change once there are some many from NYC trying to get in on this new housing.

"...projects.....a wide range of income level residents." ?????
BEFORE even one project was built, there was been and continues to be an over abundance of EXISTING and TAXPAYING VACANT properties, not just for a "wide range" but for EACH AND EVERY range of income level residents AND to accommodate any newcomer as well.
The vacancies CONTINUE as the EXISTING residents flee the city in droves
Let's look at the FACTS:
-- "Projects" have been done to create, for the rich developers and owners, the government bakery, the government appliance store, the government theater, the government gym, the government restaurants, the government gin mills and soon the government casino --- all TAX EXEMPT properties, thus a major contribution to the massive REDUCTION in the city's tax base.
-- "Projects" have been done to create residential units for high income (based on the rents advertised). These are properties owned by the rich political cronies of McTHIEF and plex. These are TAX EXEMPT properties thus a major contribution to the massive REDUCTION in the city's tax base.
-- Now a "project" to build a multi-million dollar building for the poor to live in, it will be a TAX EXEMPT property, thus CONTINUTING to be a major contribution to the massive REDUCTION in the city's tax base.
-- "Project" to demolish a building owned by a billionaire crony of the mayor, a project which the existing, financially struggling homeowners are being FORCED to pay for (if the homeowners don't pay for it, McTHIEF will seize their homes), yet another major contribution to the massive REDUCTION in the city's tax base.
-- "Project" to demolish other buildlings -- the cost to be FORICBLY paid for by the struggling, existing homeowners in the city (if they don't pay for it, McTHIEF will seize their homes). This UNQUALIFIED MAYOR is forcing the EXISTING homeowners to pay to demo rather than going after the assets of the owners of those properties
Now, with all this, maybe some cheerleaders, excuse me, cheerleader (SINGULAR) can respond and state which of any of the rich cronies of the mayor ar CHOOSING to BUY AND LIVE IN the city???????????
Can this LONE cheerleader of the mayor explain WHY NONE of the rich developers, getting richer off the struggling homeowners, are staying far far away from residence IN the city?
And most importantly, if it's so wonderful, why won't this BIG (in more ways than one) cheerleader buy, or even rent, IN the city??????? OF COURSE, NO ANSWER because to answer would mean admitting that the city is failing.

The City-County of Schenectady is doing great. It is under great leadership. The 3 recently announced and the other projects in the Hamilton Hill/Vale Neighborhood that will be announced in the weeks and months ahead are vivid proof that Mayor McCarthy and the wonderful team at both the city and the county are concerned about bringing the RENAISSANCE to all parts of our community.

Doing great?
Can you respond and state what is and has been happening to the city's tax base under this great leadership you claim?
Oh, of course, we know, you will NOT respond to that question.
