I would love it if there was a REAL market on Hamilton Hill. Why couldn't Golub or Walmart put a mini market here like the one at Mohawk Commons?
Sadly RP it's more than likely a combination of location and profitability. Sometime in the '90's, when Golub was still using a Mini-market concept they built a brand new Mini-chopper in Arbor Hill in Albany. I happened to spend some time there working as a contractor preparing for a grand opening and they were already having a serious theft and vandalism problem. Although I'm not certain exactly how long that store stayed open, I do think it was less than 6 months. They were paying more for loss prevention and security than anything else, and in the grocery business where profits are measured in pennies it made no sense to continue there. Sad but true.
