Yes bumbler... you've made that point before... Be sure NOT TO VOTE in 2016, because your votes makes absolutely NO DIFFERENCE.

Yes I get it. The more people like "conspiracy theory aficionado" bumbler, who don't vote, the better for actual candidates. Oh wait... you're one of those who don't vote too! Keep up the good work!

Bernie is a (shudder) SOCIALIST! A term the Right loves to promote when addressing Bernie. But...
Quoted Text
Sanders Socialist label notwithstanding, he isn’t actually that far to the left. A study by VoteView, determined that Sanders is actually less liberal than many Republican senators are conservative.
Bernie’s a longtime supporter of universal health care in what some would say is its purest form: A single-payer system, in which the government provides insurance directly rather than subsidizing private insurers. He’s called for making taxpayer-funded child care available to all parents, right up through kindergarten. He supports breaking up the big banks and imposing a carbon tax to slow climate change. He opposes trade deals, including the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership, that lack what he considers adequate protection for labor. And he supports the public financing of campaigns for federal office.

He may be 73 years old but he is well liked in Vermont (as well as neighboring New England states) and among the traditional left wing of the Democratic Party. His message would appeal to Democratic voters in New Hampshire and Iowa --- that is why I am leaning toward the possibility that he has the potential to upset Hillary Clinton in 2016 like Eugene McCarthy upset Lyndon Johnson back in 1968.

Yeah. Me and nearly 70% of the rest of America. What was it you called the republican candidates? A "clown car"? Is that what you mean by "actual candidates"?
Hey it's your choice. I would rather have a vote in who governs this country... You'd rather leave it to me and like minded people.

The right didn't promote Bernie as a socialist....Bernie openly promoted Bernie as a socialist.
He's not that far to the left? As compared to who? Marx?
Like you, he's a throwback of the hippie commie days of the late 60's and 70's. He's belonged to the Liberty Union Party, who endorsed candidates from the World Workers Party and Socialist Party USA. He's currently associated with the Vermont Progressive Party.
He basically wants to implement the Swedish/Danish style of socialism.
He offers up the 'new and cutting edge' arguments of....
Corporations are evil. Rich people are evil. Income redistribution. Taxes are good Government *everything*
Yup...A totally mainstream American type of guy!

"Nordic Socialism" None of the Nordic countries are socialist. Most are Constitutional monarchies, all have free markets and profitable companies. The main question is what are these countries doing right that America in particular isn't?
1) They don't have huge militaries, strategic money sinks or pseudo-colonial interests. They aren't going to invade anywhere. If Norwegian soldiers turn up, it will be by international agreement and they will provide humanitarian aid. They do not bankroll coups and rebellions.
Military Expenditure (% of GDP)
US 4.6 Finland 2,0 Norway 1.9 Sweden 1.5 Denmark 1.3 Iceland 0.0 Figures from CIA world factbook
2) Women are involved. You cannot be successful if you only use half of your potential. Nordic parliaments have 50/50 splits by gender, not the 20/80 split in the US, or the 10/90 split of the Republicans. Women are encouraged to work, have equal pay and opportunities. Reproductive rights aren't really an issue and they set the standard for sex education. Teen pregnancy is lower than it the Anglo-Saxon countries, a Scandinivian woman isn't going to mess up her economic potential and is in no hurry to find a husband.
3) Education. It is free and first class. Finland is probably the only country close to matching the Maths results of the places in the far east. (Singapore, etc). The model is quite simple: Finland has the premise that education is too important to be left to politicians. So the education system is run by teachers and educationalists, not politicians: it is widely admired. Education is largely free and people aren't saddled with huge debts. People start careers later, in things they are interested in rather than making money. 4) Healthcare. Often viewed in the US as "socialism", but it is to no ones benefit having a sickly workforce, struggling through the day producing poor quality products. Health expenditure is kept down, because harmful products are taxed heavily, Sweden has expensive booze and cigarettes, but cheap fish. The Icelanders are characterised as "non-smoking fitness fanatics". If you make healthcare a priority, then preventative medicine is also a must.

5) The concept of work/life balance. No one works well if they are stale, worn out or have family worries. The working hours are shorter and they have more holidays. People have more job security. No one works at their best after a long day, with distractions.
6) They don't have class divisions, so engineers are valued as much as lawyers. Companies are happy to see people not in suits. The companies themselves are ethical, payments to suppliers will be prompt. If you do business with Scandinavian companies, they aren't going to keep you hanging about for payment, this is a big incentive to small businesses.

Sweden's famous "cradle to grave" socialism is failing. They are experiencing deteriorating public facilities, such as transportation and parks, also there is a real rape epidemic, not a fake one like we have at colleges here, and they have riots. No thanks. I thought the idea behind tax deductions for children was so parents could use their own money to provide for their own kids. There is also some form of child care credit available. Low birthweight babies are at higher risk of infant mortality. African-American babies are born smaller than European infants. This cuts across economic lines. It is one of the factors in the higher infant mortality rate in the US, not to mention that we try to save high-risk pregnancies. Things aren't always what they seem at first glance. I don't know why I let myself get drawn into these discussions.

Nordic Socialism includes Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland and Denmark, not just Sweden.
