So the slates seem to be set for Nov. I posted awhile back that IMO the Mayor would win re-election this fall. I'm going to stick to that prediction and hope I'm wrong. If Hull couldn't win the last time, what makes anyone think he's going to win this fall.

It's on: McCarthy vs. Hull II By Haley Viccaro April 29, 2015
SCHENECTADY — The race for mayor will be a rematch this year: Roger Hull vs. Gary McCarthy.
Hull, former Union College president and Alliance Party founder, narrowly lost to McCarthy in Nov. 2011. He’s entering the race again in an effort to unseat McCarthy, a Democrat.
In a Facebook event invitation last week, McCarthy said he is pursuing a second term.
He plans to formally announce his re-election campaign at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6 at City Hall.
McCarthy, 58, defeated Hull, 72, by only 89 votes in 2011. The final tally four years ago was 4,792 for McCarthy to 4,703 for Hull. It was the tightest mayoral race in memory.
Hull is the founder and CEO of the Help Yourself Foundation, which works to help disadvantaged students. He attended the University of Virginia and moved to Schenectady to head Union College.
McCarthy became mayor in April 2011 after fellow Democrat Brian U. Stratton stepped down to lead the state Canal Corporation.
He served on the City Council from 1996-99 and 2005 until taking the mayor’s seat. He was elected City Council president in 2010. He was previously an investigator in the Schenectady County District Attorney’s Office for about 30 years.
Republicans have lined up four candidates to run for City Council. Councilman Vince Riggi, the only non-Democrat on the council, is seeking re-election. City Republican Committee Chairman Michael Cuevas is also entering the race.
The two other council candidates are Tom Verret, a Conservative, and Ann Norsworthy-Rigley, a Republican.
Verret is a funeral director at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home. He has two sons in the Schenectady Police Department and another in the Schenectady Fire Department. He graduated from Hudson Valley Community College and was born and raised in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania before moving to Schenectady.
Norsworthy-Rigley is a photographer and founder and chair of the Stockade Station committee. She attended Christopher Newport University in Virginia.
Council members Leesa Perazzo and Ed Kosiur, both Democrats, are seeking another term. The City Democratic Executive Committee also endorsed Karen Zalewski-Wildzunas, who sits on the board of the Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority, and John Polimeni, who is on the board of the Schenectady Municipal Housing Authority, as candidates for council. The GOP has an uphill battle with a 2.5-to-1 party enrollment disadvantage. Democrats have held control of the City Council for more than 30 years.

what's that tell ya?
I will be very surprised if the dems don't pull it off again! they've had 30 years to stack the deck. most of the electorate can't read or write and their job is standing in the dss line.

Some of the people who live on Baker Avenue, who witnessed first hand McCheese's embarrasing, condescending, stupid, mealy-mouthed performance over the street condition last winter may be looking to change that (D) vote this time around. When you know that behind door number two sits a big pile of ----, it becomes easier to take a chance on an unknown. Besides, there was a fire "scare" at the polling place where the most Hull supporters voted, last time around. Who knows whether that deterred any voters or not?

Oh wow! I can't remember if I read something about that or someone mentioned that fire scare recently, but regardless how, there was also after the fire scare there was another scare right after it, like a weapon was found or something like that such that voters were told they could go back in to the school building and barely a minute or two later they were sent back out.
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
The problem this time around, at least I'm guessing right now, is that the voters are going to vote based on visual things, not on the financial and service aspect.
That is, they see the brick and mortar downtown, they see "pretty new buildings," but they are totally clueless about the impact on them as taxpayers in the city. Have them look at their tax bills and fees in 2011 (and for that matter, also in 2007 and 2003), and have them look at the market values of their houses and what the value the mayors have used to calculate the taxes.
The people need to look at what the annual trash fee was in 2003, when Stratton ran for mayor (i.e. the year before Stratton's first budget proposal) and what the trash fee is now.
And of course, if people REALLY read the laws in the city and see how the McTHIEF REFUSES to obey the city's own laws (such as ignoring the laws mandating recycling and understanding how much money the city loses by refusing to cite people for failing to sort trash; and the failure to declare snow emergencies), not to mention the mayor violating his own rule about requiring his department heads to live in the city (the police chief),

Asking a serious question: Considering the very low cost of the recyclables scrap value and the cost for the extra trucks and personnel, benefits and retirement and the extra water (provided by the city) needed to clean the recyclables do you really think it saves the city money to continue to recycle or do you think that is McCarthy blowing smoke about he savings he could grab. Right now I believe that the city GIVES the recyclables to the County. We don't get money for them. I am be I believe that the city GIVES the appliances and scrap to the County. Check the scrap line on the budget....

There is also the tiny matter of McCarthy's being smack in the middle of a criminal investigation, is there not? Some otherwise content with the status quo people do sometimes get shaken out of their complacency by things like that.
