Joseph "Joe" Allen was a man who never forgot that he was from 944 Strong St. in the Hamilton Hill neighborhood of his beloved Schenectady.

Early Wednesday morning, his son-in-law Raymond C. Bowman found Allen unconscious in his lifelong home.

He was 79 years old.

Joe was a good man.  He fought hard for the folks in his neighborhood and across the city.  May he rest in peace.

A "good" man that was a tax delinquent.   A "good" man that instead of paying the SMALL cost of health insurance from his state employment, instead, passed up insurance from the state and took it from the city taxpayers because it wouldn't cost him anything out of his pocket.   Take insurance paid for by the city taxpayers and then not pay taxes on your city house.

Income from his state job OVER $45,000 PLUS social security, such high income he was not even eligible for the Senior ENHANCED STAR, which means is annual income was over $80,000 per year.

But he can't pay his city taxes?   He can't afford to pay a teeny 10% of his health insurance premium from the state.

The many who voted to stop having a two tiered tax system  in the city, (there once was a residential tax rate and a business property tax rate), and then some years later, during a council meeting he stated about landlords "they are a business, how come they are not paying the tax rate for business properties."

He went whining for the people who were too lazy to pay attention to parking rules in the city during snow emergencies and too lazy to move their cars so Joe went whining they shouldn't have to pay the parking tickets.

He was big on the trash cans stored on porches, but he never pushed for strong code enforcement.

Condolences to his family, but hopefully the city will get all the delinquent taxes before his kids get anything out of his estate.

I wonder how hard Joe fought for the people in his neighborhood so they wouldnt be forced--by Joe's own political party--to pay the taxes of the millionaires downtown and build them all fancy buildings.

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

You have now shown just how much of a lowlife scum you are with this kind of crap about a dead person. You don't like him...fine, then post nothing and move on.

RIP Joe and condolences to his family in their loss...also, apologies for the posting by the ignorant troll lowlife scum...he's too stupid to realize his own ignorant ways.

If someone committed a despicable act then I can understand someone taking a shot at them after they die.  But I don't see anything in Joe's past that rises to that level.  How about a little respect and compassion for the deceased and their loved ones.

First of all, my condolences to Joe Allen's family, may he rest in peace.

Now I'd like to address the comments made by mc1. It didn't surprise me at all, and to be honest I pretty much expected it. It does show what a childish, miserable POS he/they really is/are. Yet this isn't the first time the small-minded troll has taken a shot at someones grief. I direct you to this post from Oct. 2012, not long after a relative of a poster here passed away. Mc1 the great intelligent pseudo-muckraker, who so many here seem to lionize and adore, showed what a real gem he/they is/are.

The parts of Mc1, Cioci Basia and VirginiaMonologue were all played by mc1. The same person who on occasion has posted as Gerri J, and lord knows how many  others, the same person who accuses others of having multiple usernames. Yep, to some the board hero. A real prince/princess of virtue. We should all be ashamed of ourselves for enabling this/these jerks. They think they're bulletproof, that they can post anything they want without consequences. Well I for one hope that someone puts them in their place. This kind of crap needs to end. Now.
