This is kind of interesting.

The taxpayer (largely funded) college in Schenectady is teaching classes on running the gambling.

Now the taxpayer will be subsidizing classes on how to deal with problem gambling.

Spend tax money to encourage  gambling then spend money to treat it when it becomes a problem.   The political cronies will get richer and the taxpayers will be poorer.

I guess this means that not psychiatrists, nor psychologists, nor social workers are able to treat problem gambling, there has to be a separate job to handle that.

Obviously the powers that be expect problems from having casino gambling.  For sure, then, people who will come to the city will NOT be able to afford the expensive apartments downtown, and/or they'll be defaulting on their leases

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

Reminds me off the back of scratch off tickets, I always got a laugh at the gambling helpline number they list

This is what community colleges do ... they are everything for everyone. Hopefully the new president they bring on just isn't another stooge for the local power brokers. The board members at SCCC sometimes can't help themselves (with their own self interests) and scare away talent ... The faculty are on an old contract and need a raise. That should be issue one!

It was what community colleges did, Jaystreet, but I'm afraid that they've become a racket to benefit politicians and connected wealthy cronies. Somebody made big money building that convenient Stabbery next to the Armory.
More and more there is a requirement for education that is very job specific, which sounds like a good thing, but it is something that the employers used to provide. I commented on this before, over in California many of the jobs they have, if you want to keep them, or move up to a buck or two an hour raise, you need a 'certificate', which, conveniently, the community colleges provide at your own, or the government's, expense. Also notice the trend, politicians leave office, not necessarily elected officials, cabinet members and so forth, where to they go to keep getting higher salaries than the general public gets? To universities, and then those universities give astronomical "speaking fees" to people like Hillary Clinton.

Last year I was working at the Zia Park Race Track.  http://www.ziaparkcasino.com/Dining  Which is Dirctly across the street from the New Mexico Junior college. http://www.nmjc.edu/academics/programs/transportation/certificate.asp

They offer plenty of CERTIFICATIONS that will get you a good paying job/career You can not only get your commercial drivers licence but all of your hazmat CERTIFICATIONS. Basically go to school then go to work. The school backS right up to Halliburton's yard

Golden West college Junior college-http://www.goldenwestcollege.edu/nursing/  -get your Nursing RN degree ( CERTIFICATION )  Yes thats a full Registered Nursing Degree ( certification as madam x calls it )

Saddlebck Junior college http://www.saddleback.edu/hs/nursing-program get your Registered Nursing degree ( certifications as xlax calls it )

Honestly what the he!! are you talking about. What kind of a goofball has a hard on for community college  education ? Pathetic.  Half of the New York state budget goes to education.

I said nothing about degrees, jerk. A "CERTIFICATE" is required, in some states, to hold on to a stinking pharmacy tech job. Those people you see behind the counter at the Rite-Aid, the ones who aren't pharmacists. Who do you think you are kidding, you don't know anything about working, you unemployed, vulgarian bum.
No wonder it has become such a lucrative rip-off, with people as dumb as you are schilling for it. Try to stick with topics you know something about, which would be as limiting as your IQ.

Oh how far has America fallen...issuing certificates to run games of chance.  From the city that lights the world to the city that hustles its citizens.

How sad.  Calling someone you dont even know a bum ?  Whats up with that ? I dont need to keep up with  your bullsh!t because your view of everything is always political . It is  your type of thinking that is destroying Schenectady. You want to put sticks in the spokes of anything that is moving forward.

Only a retard would want to discourage a person from going to school . No value in a person aquiring hazmat certifications?  Hell why do you even need a license to drive a truck ? Yippee ki-yay

Vulgarian bum ? wouldnt that be you ? spending your poor dead husbands money ?   Pretending to be some kind of a wise community leader. I suggest you tone down your bullsh!t - its going to come back and bit you in the culo.

blaming the mayor for your crappy life. ? give me a break

It's too bad one person has to pollute this site. You aren't fooling anyone, DVOR, except perhaps yourself.

You on the other hand are trying to fool everyone that you are a ' concerned ' citizen with only the interest of the community at heart. Your a trouble maker. You align yourself with other trouble makers. You all seem smart ON PAPER.-  You pose as wise community leaders.
You are nothing but word thugs.  MC1 prince of verbal diarrhea- a vowel movement every day-

Your a charlatan  - placing the blame of Schenectady's  problems on people that have very little ability to make your life any better.  Most of your comments are nasty. directed a some person and not the problem . What is wrong with you ?

Every person in this community needs to look in the mirror and begin to take responsibility for their situation. Many have made some bad decisions 10 20 or 30 years ago- because they just weren't paying attention.

Its you stinking up this site with your nasty comments.
You cant imagine that anyone but DVOR looks at any small dose of opportunity as something positive.

I agree...politician have have zero ability to make anybody's life better.  They do hold the power to make people's lives expotenially worse - and they do.

I don't read Maddam's posts as asking for the city government to make her life better, it's to stop the policies making  everybody's so miserable.

every person in the community needs to look at how much they've been taxed over the past 20-30 years, and ask themselves "what value was it to me?"  If you are a direct beneficiary of the taxes like Galesi, Mallossi, or a city, county, town bureaucrat, I'm sure there is a lot of value.  For the rest of the working stiffs, you're getting royally boned.

I just drove back from Plainridge Park Casino in Plainville Massachusetts this morning  http://www.plainridgeparkcasino.com/ It will be the first casino in Massachusetts .  Schedualed to open June 24.   ( but not the last ).
Its small by casino standards- about 35 miles outside of Boston.

Ive been WORKING there the past month. I didnt see DVOR anyplace.
My first stop this morning was Mr Meyers bakery on CRANE ST ! I stopped first to put on my bullet proof vest-  then to Garafalos for cheese and olives.

Cicero you would be proud- I always have to figure out how to wiggle around all of the " paperwork ".  ( my contract usually begins with " I  can confidently represent the intent of the designer ".)

So you see madamxyz   my work really goes beyond ' work '  as you would know it.

It's really too bad, this site could be so useful as a sounding board, a civil exchange of viewpoints and information, but it gets discredited by one sick individual who can't control himself. Why are the vulgar personal attacks tolerated? Also the sock puppets? DVOR comes out in favor of the mayor's atrocious behavior on another thread, embarrassing himself, it turns out that many more people than just m/C1 and those on this site noticed how out of line the mayor was. So, he won't answer on the thread he started on behalf of the mayor, but, lo and behold, here comes "sombody" who for some reason jumps in and starts foaming at the mouth and spewing vulgarities at me over a fairly innocuous post about Higher Education, on another thread. Coincidence? Not on your life.

what/who else does anyone actually think would move (on purpose) to the sh!thole Schenectady?
Government has failed miserably in the business of 'business building'.
It historically has been private businesses that succeed at 'business building'.
The sh!thole Schenectady is a prime example of what a city looks like when the Government is at the helm of creating jobs/businesses....THEY CAN'T!!!

So now the sh!thole Schenectady is nothing more than a proposed gambling joint in the middle of the highest taxed city in the state of NEW YORK!!

...WITH a top college (Union) that suggests their students stay within the college grounds!!!

it don't take a rocket scientist here folks!!

It will be generations before Schenectady turns around.
Until then...the 'family and friends' club will die RICH!!
And the rest of the dimwits who choose to stay will continue to live poor and die poor!

WALK AWAY!!!!
