Four companies charged by the state DEC with violations per Gazette story
Foritech as far as I can see is taxable
Auterra lists an address that does not exist on the tax rolls so unable to determine their tax status
But the two others, Starfire and Pace, TOTALLY TAX EXEMPT, started in 2014 and NO END DATE
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
I don't agree with the exemptions...........but everyone here does know that if you impose full taxes on ALL of these businesses....they will leave...right? It won't hurt the taxpayers cause they ain't getting any tax relief any way from these businesses. So should we tax them all and have empty buildings and less 'service jobs'? just sayin'

Take the millions businesses aren't paying due to exemptions and reduce residential property taxes. If the Schenectady County residents have millions of dollars collectively to consume, then the businesses can pay their full taxes because they will have more customers with expendable income. The current model the economic planners are using, is to tax the life out of the residents, give millions in subsidies and exemptions to a few property developers and business, in order to attract people from outside the city to spend their money downtown. The residential areas in Schenectady is essentially a ghetto for the poor and minorities, to be separated from downtown, while those with extendible income spend their money downtown.
Just like at this tyrant McCarthy said about "loosie" cigarettes. He openly admits he doesn't like the poor. He doesn't like the "clientele" selling loosie cigarettes attracts and "support an image and marketing" HE doesn't want. OH, and also, he wants to prevent poor people from becoming addicted to cigarettes they can't afford(they can't afford them because NYS taxed them out of their price range). This Mayor has waged an all out assault against the "poor" and he has no problem publicly stating it in the press. The poor are not good for marketing the city, and the poor should not be buying cigarettes the state purposely taxed them to the point of unaffordability. You would think we live in 1933 Germany, creating permanent ghettos(open air prisons) for the poor, and keeping them away from the wealthy and elites downtown playground.
Below are the words of a tyrant.

State and federal laws ban the sale of loose cigarettes, but enforcement is virtually nonexistent, said McCarthy.
The mayor lamented the sale of loose cigarettes, which he said is widespread among the problem neighborhood stores his administration is targeting because of reports of illegal activity. McCarthy said the city recorded nearly 3,500 calls for service at those businesses in the past two years.
He said peddling loosies attracts underage kids "trying to be cool" and takes advantage of poor people who become addicted to cigarettes they can't afford.
"You draw in a different clientele and support an image and marketing I don't want, and that is a problem," McCarthy said.
If it passes, the new law would give the police department the power to enforce the ban on sale of single cigarettes. He acknowledged that the police department is already busy and that "We're hoping for a high level of compliance very quickly."

It’s a double edge but million dollar properties not paying anything is not helping. Start at reduced level and increase 10% each year giving the business a few years of assistance to get a foot hold and grow, but if your business is not viable then the burden shouldn't be put perpetually on the tax payers. .
