More demand for the mayor to restore ESSENTIAL SERIVCES to the TAXPAYERS of the city IN THEIR NEIGHBORHOODS

Consider more snow emergencies
“God put it there, God will take it away,” Albany Mayor Erastus Corning II famously used to say about large snowfalls.
He may have only been half-joking, but it didn’t sound like Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy was when he told a reporter recently, “if we get two days that are 40 degrees, you will see a dramatic shift in the roadways.”
It barely got above freezing for five minutes the whole month of February, as the snow kept piling up. So the notion that residents should somehow be expected to wait until spring to navigate the city’s side streets seems impractical, if not illogical.
McCarthy refuses to resort to “snow emergencies” when the city gets belted. That’s when motorists are required to move cars parked on nonpriority streets, first to one side, then the other, over the course of 48 hours, so plows can clear to the curb on both sides. It works, but it’s costly. (McCarthy’s predecessor, Brian Stratton, once estimated an extra $10,000 per storm.)
McCarthy hasn’t called a single snow emergency in his four years as mayor. He’d have you believe the reason is that there haven’t been any storms large enough to warrant one. But that’s absurd, as a half-dozen residents of Plymouth Avenue (who got their cars ticketed last month because the street wasn’t wide enough for an emergency vehicle to pass) can attest.
Undoubtedly, residents of other side streets where parking is allowed on both sides at all times — and whose cars have gotten “plowed in” after several storms of 8 or more inches without any intervening thaws — also know it.
We understand that the mayor is trying to save the city money, and taxpayers should appreciate that. But most taxpayers would probably also agree that there are times when, even though it’s going to end up costing them, a mayor has to do what’s necessary to provide a needed service.
As City Councilman Vince Riggi pointed out in Tuesday’s Gazette story, that’s certainly true when public safety is at stake. And it is at stake when streets that are considered adequately plowed still can’t be traversed by emergency vehicles.
The city should consider classifying more streets as “priorities” in winter, requiring motorists to move their cars, or at least getting them all parked on one side, when more than a few inches of snow fall
The mayor also has to start loosening city purse strings and invoking the occasional snow emergency, when necessary, so that emergency vehicles get where.
What a TOTALLY INCOMPENTENT mayor that McCarthy is. He claims a couple days of 40 degree temps will be the saving grace for the city. Yeah, like all the snow is going to magically melt away, no more snow will be in the streets.
The TOTALLY INCOMPETENT mayor and his obvious equally incompetent city staff think that snow turning to slush for two days will solve the issues of streets too narrow. Do they have a clue in those brainless heads that even after 3 days of 40 degrees that, one, that will NOT totally melt the snow; TWO - that snow will just turn to slush; and THREE - that it is certainly possible that the temps could go down to below zero for a week after that and then what does brainless mayor thing will happen then? Naturally this TOTALLY COMPETENT MAYOR makes no plans for the future, all he thinks is that two days of temps in the 40's will magically make the snow disappear.
Stratton says $10,000 for a snow emergency. Even if that cost doubled after the few years that have passed, come on, really, $20,000 is too much money to spend to prevent a taxpayer from dying?
Even if there are 5 sizeable storms in the course of a month, spending from $50,000 to $100,000 for declaring a snow emergency is an essential service to the taxpayers in their neightborhoods.'
Actually cannot believe that there is at least one person, as of now, who is publically supporting the re-election of McCarthy who prefers to spend the taxpayers' money on tax exemptions for his rich cronies downtown, McCarthy has proven that the lives of the actual residents of the city, the people who actually live IN the city, pay taxes (directly or indirectly via living in homes that taxable properties) are worthless. McCarthy does NOT value the lives of the residents of the city, he refuses to spend the money to absolutely guarantee that an ambulance or fire truck can pass through the city streets.
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
Average High for Month: 20.75 Average Low for Month: 0.67
Observations of note: Only twice did the high temperature reach 30 or above (Feb 12, 22). 17 of 28 days had low temps below zero with the longest stretch being 9 days in a row (Feb 13-21)
Readings are taken on a Davis 'Vantage Vue' weather station and are uploaded every 15min to Weather Underground.
None of the measurements and observations given have been adjusted in any way.

That's because you are a global warming denier. If you had the temperature statistics the liberal mayor had, you would clearly see that the temperatures were abnormally high in the month of February. The mayors concern in February was the river thawing and flooding due to global warming, not snow removal.

Skeptic, not denier.
And if I 'adjusted' the data the way NOAA/GISS does, then it would look more like this...
Average High for Month: 41.75 Average Low for Month: 20.67
Of course, it would be hard to explain the 3'+ of 'global warming' covering the ground right now where I am.
