Speaking of unity in these difficult times. A thought. Would'nt it be better and most helpful to a struggling city to have all city employees reside in the City to help in rebuilding it? Via home ownership, thus increasing it's tax base/renovating homes/neighborhoods. Giving back as it's said.
Stop it now....That's crazy talk! |

I agree. Public employees (including teachers) should live within the jurisdiction that employs them. |

One big issue I'm noticing is people are not using their driveways, instead are parking on the road making it impossible for plows to even fit on the street. These roads have not been plowed at all or salted and they are not enforcing the snow emergency parking rules. This city sucks when it comes to the roads but citizens need to play their role as well, a little unity during these times can go a long way for everyone.
Agreed - many property owners are lax about shoveling their sidewalks, too. |

I lived at Baker some 20 plus years ago (the area pictured here). The problem is the driveways are only so deep and it doesn't allow you to put more than one or two cars in the driveway. When I lived there most houses were rentals each with three bedrooms per floor, the number of cars per house were more than there is room for in the driveway and on the street. I used to park on other streets when there was no space left near my place. The other issue is the width of the driveways ice and snow build up on the roofs causes it to drop directly onto the cars that are parked in the driveway many times causing damage to the vehicles. So during the winter most people won't risk parking a car in the driveway at all. |

Maybe they are elderly, can't do it themselves, and after paying the taxes of the Gilmores, the council people and school board woman (and super high paid county employee), the elderly can't afford to hire someone to shovel. You'd think YOU would volunteer to do shovel the sidewalks of the elderly and the disabled, perhaps for free like that guy in Amsterdam. Yeah and it's the job of the city to cite those owners, but the city is NOT doing that in the neighborhoods where the taxpayers live. Your buddies care ONLY about their precious downtown. Even occupied big business commercial properties remain unshoveled and the city doesn't to squat about them. Buy the way, the town is rather lax about clearing sidewalks in the town too. Why didn't they do the former Grand Union or the newly remodeled Stewarts on Hamburg St? |
