And how you develop the location -- what mix of retail stores, restaurants and other amenities and uses.
If Shop Rite were to buy the Macy's site and develop one of its stores there that would be the first step towards reinventing, redeveloping and reinvigorating the mall. When K-Mart closes, tear that down and build a Holiday Inn Express on that site. And so on down through the rest of the mall.

Yeah, right. People are going to travel, and pay hotel costs, just go shopping at Rotterdam Mall? ROLFMAO
Are you cheering for a hotel that would get those tax exemptions and make homeowners pay the taxes? Is it nice to live like a little boy, no responsibilities of mortgage, taxes, house maintenance costs, utility bills, etc and then brown nose your political party by cheering for others to incur higher taxes.

Looks like internet only. I think all these stores are making bad decisions. They toss aside the customers who still like to go shopping because they think they 'lost' business to the internet, but they really made going to the store such a waste of time that they drove customers online. Anyhow, malls are dying out nationwide, for various reasons, and RSM is clearly not a mall that is going to 'make it'. It would be a big mistake to throw away any public money on that location. If it were worth it, somebody would have already seized the opportunity.
They probably will once they know there will be Plex/County assistance/tax breaks $$$ avaliable.

Are you really that stupid that you don't understand? Apparently, you don't have the capacity to imagine different uses for the same property.
The mall as we know it is obsolete - dead - that has happened to hundreds if not thousands of commercial properties across the country. Now it is time to REINVENT - find a new mix of uses for that commercial property.
Didn't think that I needed to explain it with crayons and stick figures for you -- the Shop Rite or other retail supermarket would be serving the needs of the local population and the hotel (because of the proximity to the interstates and the city center) would be serving a DIFFERENT population (travelers, business people, tourists coming to the casino and/or Proctor's). The mall would no longer exist as it was before and is now --- it would be completely redeveloped.
As for the rest of your lying, insulting commentary -- you obviously are an ignorant and miserable jack a**.

Are YOU really THAT STUPID that you do NOT understand that people who go to casinos do NOT, absolutely do NOT, go stay at a hotel away from the casino. Patches is correct. And I'm sure Patches is correct that YOU have NEVER NEVER NEVER been to a casino, just like you are NOT and have NEVER NEVER NEVER been a taxpayer!
I DEFY you to provide EVIDENCE that people will come from various places and stay at a hotel so far from a casino. Provide the EVIDENCE of your claim that a hotel will thrive there without being within walking distance of a casino. Come one, provide us some EVIDENCE. Provide us EVIDENCE that people who go to Foxwoods go stay at a hotel beyond walking distance next to a supermarket. Ditto Turning Stone. Etc.
And DV, you know NOTHING. Shop Rite is NOt going to expand anymore in the near future!!!!!!!!! And what happened to your shopping at local owned grocery stores???? More proof of your LIES LIES LIES LIES LIES. Just like your LIES LIES LIES about the county taxes being lower than they were in the 1970's, it is noted that you have NEVER provided one teeny weeny shred of EVIDENCE of your statement about the taxes. And now, as you have stated on several occasions that we should support local grocery stores, you don't talk about shopping at the locally owned Price Chopper, but instead you support, and supposedly shop (with mommies' money of course IF you shop) at the non-locally owned store.
And when it comes to supermarkets, DV, since you are NOT a self supporting, self-sufficient independent adult; since you have your two mommies' to provide for you every time you stomp your feet and throw temper tantrums, you are NOT a normal shopper like us and others who have to watch where are money goes, i.e., the vast majority of us, as we are normal adults, shop at all the stores. We check the ads, clip coupons, and if we have need for a specific product this coming week, we will check the ads for Price Chopper, Hannaford, Shop-Rite, Walmart, Target, and make our purchases at the one with the best price taking into account whether the cost of the driving there.
Gee, remember when Walmart wanted to build a supercenter in Rotterdam?. I am neither supporting or opposing this idea, but maybe they should buy the mall, knock it down, and build a supercenter there. There would be a supermarket there with often better prices than the other stores. Just sayin'

I have been to casinos. Personally, I like Mt. Airy Casino in the Poconos and some others down in Louisiana and Mississippi). Not all folks who go to a casino stay in the hotel at the casino.
Besides that, a hotel on Campbell Avenue would have easy access to really -- all 3 Thruway exits that serve Schenectady and the area has a number of venues (parents visiting students at Union College, peopledoing business with GE and other firms in Downtown, etc.) that would attract visitors who would fill up a hotel in that location.
Apparently, you and your nayboob cohorts are the only ones hallucinating. Schenectady IS CHANGING and changing for the better. You will be hearing a lot more good news for Schenectady in 2015 thanks to Mayor McCarthy, the County Legislature led by Tony Jasenski and the great economic development team led by Ray Gillen.

Well the site has already been zoned commercial. So rather their having it stand empty, it would be best to find a suitable mixed use redevelopment plan. Eventually, some one will come along to redevelop it and it would be better to be able to choose the best and safest (for the aquifer) use. Otherwise, you could end up with a truck stop or some less desirable but legally permitted use on the property.

. Schenectady IS CHANGING and changing for the better.
Would you care to explain yourself? How is it changing for the "better"
DO you call a falling tax base a change for the better? DO you call increasing taxes a change for the better? Do you call increasing the taxes on low income people and making them pay for the taxes of millionaire a change for the better? Do you call falling home values a change for the better? DO you call having the second highest overassessed values in the whole state of New York a change for the better? Do you call having falling home sales a change for the better? Do you call having falling home sale prices a change for the better? Do you call increase in people fleeing the city a change for the better? Do you call the FACT that homes--nice homes in nice neighborhoods--that are listed for sale for over one, sometimes two, three, and four years with numerous price reductions a change for the better? Do you call people being underwater on their mortgages a change for the better? Do you call the record high number of the long existing fine residential units a change for the better? Do you call the increase in crime a change for the better? Do you call the elimination of skating in Central Park a change for the better? Do you call the reduction of ESSENTIAL services to the residents a change for the better? Do you call the poor road conditions, potholes, etc on the streets in the neighborhoods a change for the better? Do you call the corruption in the city/co/plex a change for the better? Do you call the lavish handouts of taxpayer money to millionaires and billionaires a change for the better? Do you call the corporate welfare in return for financial kickbacks to the city/co/plex leaders a change for the better? Do you call the mayor allowing his police chief to live outside the city, avoid paying the high taxes, avoid sending his child/children to city schools a change for the better? Do you call the FACT that parents have no choice in schools to which to send their children a change for the better? (that is, no CHOICE to send them to a private school due to exhorbitantly high tuition and parents are low income, and no CHOICE to send them to a charter school as an alternative) Do you call the lack of plowing snow back to the curbs to make streets passable a change for the better? Do you call the former mayor full of BS secretly trying to give himself a raise a change for the better? Do you call the former mayor--who said "absolutely not" to a trash fee proposed by former mayor Al--but then shoving a trash fee upon the taxpayer once he got in office, i.e., total hypocrisy by Stratton) a change for the better? DO you call it a change for the better when the dem mayors are PRETENDING to not increase taxes by creasing "fees" which then increase the tax liability to the fed government (because, of course as you have never been a taxpayer you don't know that "fees" are NOT tax deductible), so people have an increase in their tax BILL (with the fee added) AND they suffer an increase in tax liability to the fed and state government because they cannot deduct the trash "fee" from their taxes? Do you call THAT a change for the better?
Well, any answers to any of those questions?

And that is how you completely own someone boys and girls.
Remember, the FACT is that people in Schenectady are paying the taxes for the dem's and plex millionaire and billionaire political cronies, so the people that live here do not have money to shop at Macy's after they pay their tax bill.
Who else in Schenectady has no financial obligations because they live with two rich mommies with probably a 6 figure income.
