Updated: Tuesday, December 30 2014, 09:00 PM EST SCHENECTADY—Rivers Casino and Resort is coming to Schenectady and since the announcement two weeks ago, people have been flocking to the city looking to buy commercial and residential properties.   The Director of Development for the City of Schenectady tells CBS6 her phone has been ringing off the hook with multiple requests and right now, the city is pushing perspective buyers to its list of foreclosed and abandoned properties that are for sale at deeply discounted prices.  Those home/business owners who promise to live in and maintain the properties they buy are given priority.  In the month of December, the city sold 18 properties for prices ranging from $4,000-$43,000.  Felix Cardona lives next-door to one of them along Paulding Ave., "It was beautiful when people were living there.... when they moved out, it got abandoned, it got stripped out of copper and all the interior stuff," he tells CBS6.  The same thing happened to a home along Albany Street that Ronald Bishunatch lives next to.  He tells CBS6, his neighbor couldn't keep up with the taxes so he walked away from the home and that's when criminals walked in.  He's soon getting a new neighbor who bought the house for $30,000 and promised the city he will live in it.  "It's good because we need good people around here, if you look at what surrounds us, there are a few good houses but as you go down the street it's very bad," Bishunatch says. The City of Schenectady has too much housing stock so the focus has been on tearing down the buildings that are beyond repair and marketing the ones that need a little TLC, "you can buy one of these properties for $20,000, put $50,000 into it..it's $70,000, what a steal, you get a 4-5 bedroom home and our houses are pretty big here so it's a great value," says Jackie Mancini, the Director of Development for the City of Schenectady.  A great value, she says combined with the Casino's promise of jobs and economic growth seem to have spurred excitement, "it's been really exciting over the last two weeks seeing how everything is coming together, in the last few years watching downtown start to prosper, the neighborhoods are starting to feel differently, there's a lot of pride in this community that I don't think people have felt in a long time, so it's really exciting," she adds. If you're interested in a fixer-upper in Schenectady, the City puts its available properties online: http://www.cityofschenectady.com/housing_and_homeownership.htm

You need to quote the statement in its ENTIRETY.  That is the only way to present the information FAIRLY and OBJECTIVELY.
Many, and I would argue most, Schenectadians - residents of the entire City-County of Schenectady - have great pride in our community.  We see that Schenectady is better off than it was 10 years ago and in RENAISSANCE mode.  The best is yet to come.  Looking forward to many new and exciting redevelopment projects to be announced in 2015.

Actually, you are only half right (at best).  It is a FACT that the phone has been "ringing of the wall" with inquiries.  Also, it is FACT that these people - both the people calling and residents in the neighborhoods - are voicing POSITIVE opinions about the direction that the city is heading.
So expect me to continue - for many years to come - to post the POSITIVE news stories regarding the City-County of Schenectady

DV is really got a screw loose to believe the press stories told by McThief, his "homes" dept head, and the TAX DEADBEAT (and long time ILLEGAL STAR double dipper) assessment board member and taxpayer-paid city real estate agent.

Just like the FACTS (proven on videos) of Mary Mary bragging about so many houses "under contract" but then when the actual official deed records are reported, there are FAR FEWER sales than the city claims.

But DV falls for the lies told by the city.

DV, perhaps you can explain HOW the city is better off than 10 years ago?

What was a typical tax bill 10 years ago.   What is a typical tax bill today for the same house?

How many boarded up homes were there 10 years ago.   How many boarded up homes are there today?

10 years ago, the taxpayers in the neighborhood received good snowplowing, i.e., "snow emergency" alternate side parking so BOTH sides of EACH AND EVERY STREET were plowed back to the curb.   And can you tell us how many times the former Mayor BS and the current McThief have declared snow emergencies and had the streets plowed all the way back to the curb?   That is, how much increase in service to the taxpayers via snow emergency plowing have been done in the past 10 years, um, I will tell you that NEVER, NOT ONCE under BS or McThief has there been such an emergency declared proving the TRUTH that the city residents are getting LESS CITY SERVICE for their tax dollars than 10 years ago.

10 years ago, tell us how many millionaires and billionaires the homeowners were paying taxes for?   And today how many millionaires and billionaires are having their taxes paid for by financially struggling homeowners?????

If the city is so vastly improved, why do you ABSOLUTELY REFUSE to live anywhere IN the city?   How come you REFUSE to buy a house IN the city?   How come you RERFUSE to even rent IN the city?   How come you fled your mommies' parish church IN the city and you attend church outside of the city?

Ha!  got someone's attention

By the way, the mayor's "homes" person, was also a STAR double dipper:

A city employee, paid by the taxpayers VIOLATED THE LAW and the city never terminated him?    Why not????????

Not to mention, the city-paid real estate agent and assessment board member also VIOLATED STATE LAW by ILLEGALLY DOUBLE DIPPING on the STAR exemption and the mayor McTHIEF appointed her to the assessment board when she brags that so many houses are under contract (for purchase) but the official records prove her nothing but a liar.

Then on top of that, she and her metroplex architect hubby, both political cronies of the mayor and party are TAX DEADBEATS and the financially struggling homeowners in the city are paying their taxes and mayor McTHIEF looks the other way, does NOT foreclose on them.

DV, do you have even one teeny weeny shred of EVIDENCE?   Well?    Where is the EVIDENCE of your statement???????

You claim it's so because your beloved LYING McTHIEF, and his thief (STAR double dipper) Home dept head, and his thief AND tax deadbeat and taxpayer paid city real estate agent/assessment board member say so?

Only pathetic LOSERS fall for the lies told by their government.   Talk about pathetic LOSER?   A 50+ year old man who still has not left the nest, does not live like a NORMAL adult, self sufficient in his own apartment.

By the way, the mayor's Homes Dept head Yusufi has a relative that owns 1151 Waverly place which they listed for sale March 31. 2011 asking $179,000.

Wow, DV, the "city is improving,"  HUH????????     Here it is ALMOST FOUR YEARS LATER and NO ONE wants to buy the house, but YOU claim people ARE interested in city properties.

So this house owned by his family member is now on it's THIRD real estate agent.   Even McTHIEF and Yusufi's buddy Mary Mary was a FAILURE at selling the house after almost four years! and 6 price reductions.   DV, do you have the GUTS to explain why that is a FACT????

Even Mary Mary was STUPID, she took over listing in February 2013, and by July had twice reduced the asking price.  Then 10 months later she INCREASES the asking price???????   A house is listed for sale for almost three years, Mary takes over listing it, asks $139,000, reduces the asking price to $129,000 and then 10 months of no buyers for $129,000 decides to increase the asking price to $135,000???????

Guess increasing the asking price of houses she is selling is her way to argue against reductions in assessment.   That proves a clear EITHICS VIOLATION started by the mayor!

By the way, the asking price is now down to $123,000.   Are you an interested buyer??????   After all, you claim there is a lot of interest in buying IN the city, so are YOU interested in buying IN the city???????    Well???????    Well, are you?????   You have proven over and over again that you want NOTHING to do with living IN the city.

Oh DV, YOU are the one who is a pathetic loser.   I have provided the EVIDENCE that the mayor's Homes program dept head VIOLATED STATE LAW and double dipped on the STAR exemption and you just cannot acknowledge that I speak the truth.

Lying?    Yeah, prove it.   I put the OFFICIAL DOCUMENTATION right in front of you PROVING that your beloved McTHIEF hired an employee who violated state law, and you just cannot handle the FACT that I speak the truth.

Who is the pathetic loser who cannot even be a success at buying a house IN the city, nor even be successful at finding a landlord who will rent to him?  An adult man who cannot get off his mommies tits and live like a normal man, independent and self sufficient is the one who is a pathetic loser.

I don't understand how so many "connected" people are double dipping on STAR and NOTHING is being done about it?

And there is NO way the city is better than 10 years ago
