Interesting that the FACT is that cities of Albany, Troy, Saratoga, Cohoes are old cities too, yet the taxes are FAR LESS than Schenectady, people are actually buying houses in those cities WITHOUT a taxpayer funded real estate business, WITHOUT a taxpayer paid city real estate agent, WITHOUT taxpayers paid down payments, etc. AND the other FACT is that the sale prices of the houses in these other cities is INCREASING while the home sale prices in Schenectady is FALLING !!!!!!!!
So, DV, explain why
1. ALL other local older cities similar to Schenectady are seeing INCREASING home sales WITHOUT TAXPAYER HANDOUTS,
2. ALL other local older cities similar to Schenectady are seeing INCREASING home sale prices WITHOUT TAXPAYER HANDOUTS
3. ALL other local older cities similar to Schenectady are seeing INCREASING property values WITHOUT TAXPAYER HANDOUTS
4. ALL other local older cities similar to Schenectady have LOWER TAXES than Schenectady
Naturally DV REFUSED to respond to these FACTS |

I double-checked what I typed and it very clearly say "previous mayors" and that would include Mayor Stratton as he was a "previous mayor." So it is not clear what you are differing over.
Anyway, I reiterate that Mayor McCarthy's program to sell to those properties to people who will actually live in them is a good plan of action.
Okay, one point and one quest on: (1) I believe BT is saying current mayor ALSO allows in AND out of town landlords...your comment insinuates only previous mayors allowed out of town and current mayor does not. (2) Are you saying all of these homes were sold as owner/occupied? Was that a condition of the sales? Not sure I remember reading that. I assumed ANYONE could buy them and residency was not a requirement. |

there are MANY 'intown' folks that are buying these properties. We also know this for a FACT!! Some slumlords?....perhaps. but some are also taking the chance on a boom once the casino rolls in. will there be a boom? will this be a benefit to the city? again...........only time will tell. not too many tricks left in the 'bag of tricks'. Hell....no one knows if the casino will be that successful. it's a wait and see for sure. |

Remember, city coffers being pumped full of tax money is all that matters. It's not about the families moving into these properties, or if they are good upstanding people that will contribute to the social fabric of Schenectady, volunteering their time and helping their neighbors. Nope...It's about pumping money from the property owner and funneling it into the government coffers. The city doesn't even bother to attempt and hide its parasitic motives. The city could care less if these were downstate buyers looking to expand their slumlord empire. So long as they pay their property tax - all is good. |

(1) Previous mayors made a big effort to bring out of town buyers in ... the current mayor has said that a priority would be given to sell to owners who intended to occupy the houses. That is a big difference. Certainly, the city can not exclude the possibility of out of town buyers but it is a good step to say that a priority will be given to owner-occupied purchases. 2) I am not saying that all were sold as owner-occupied but the article indicated that some number of the homes sold were sold as owner-occupied. |

And there it is.....'a good step to SAY'....cause it would be illegal to do/act otherwise. that's all mcmayor can do is 'SAY'...cause he clearly CAN'T just sell to local owner-occupied. that would be discrimination! so again....another false fluff statement. |

And why aren't you going to buy one of these houses and live IN the city? |

I wouldn't dream of buying any of property IN the city. WHO would EVER want to buy and lose money, ANYONE with an ounce of financial literacy would never buy a property that falls in value. But DV is the one who claims the city is improving and it's in a wonderful renaissance. But for one who claims it's so wonderful, he sure won't put even his pinky toe IN the city to live. So either DV avoids responding why he won't buy IN the city because he knows that I state the truth and the evidence we have provided proves it's a financial loss to buy IN the city. But then throughout his adult live he has never been independent and self sufficient, not even renting an apartment so he'd probably be turned down on financing. |
