Wal-Mart is not the type of store that upper middle class and higher income people flock to. They are looking for a different quality of merchandise and different merchandise than the typical Wal-Mart customer. I stand by my statement and prediction -- building more middle and upper income residential downtown WILL lead to an increased demand for and development of retail businesses in downtown Schenectady.
..............and folks with some disposable cash!!!!!

I hope the voters who voted for Kosiur & Undertaker get this through thier thick skulls "everything for downtown, F&ck the rest of Schenectady" This is the platform McCarthy and his team will run on in 2015.
The times Union had an article from before McCarthy was elected.(2011)
McCarthy, 54, said neighborhood revitalization would be one of his administration's priorities if elected, attaching himself to an issue that many residents say is ignored in favor of downtown's resurgence.
why is everyone still looking to GOV ALMIGHTY to remedy their ills????
they still voted these same people in office....the MAJORITY voted...........so go figure!!!
talk about beating a dead horse................move on!

The majority voted? I don't think so. I would bet that less than half of registered voters in Schenectady the city cast ballots, that is not a majority.
And they keep voting people in office because the mayor, the co mgr, Gardner, and Gillen keep everything hushed
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

HUSHED?????? Everyone who lives in the city, by choice, know full well that they are taxed the highest in the state!!! They live it everyday. They know the city is crime ridden. They know the school is substandard. Those things in themselves should be cause to attend city council meeting with pitchforks in hand.
These city folk seem to be looking for a 'mouth piece' for them, when they have their OWN mouths that they do NOTHING with!!
No sympathy here.
