A Schenectady taxpayer wrote a superb letter to the paper (Gazette) today, published today.
It speaks more EVIDENCE of the mayor's LIES LIES LIES.
The guy lives in Hamilton Hill and his one family house is assessed at a whopping $72,000 and the mayor's crony Mary Mary won't lower it at the board level! FOR SHAME.
Ah, I can provide it to you here.

Mayor broke promise over reassessments There was an Oct. 18 article in The Gazette that was improperly titled. It should have read, “McCarthy refuses to do what is right!” I do remember back when Brian Stratton was mayor, how it was said, by this present mayor who was then on the City Council, that anyone who refused the “full value” assessors access to their homes would regret that. Sure enough, my assessment more than doubled and the city spent a lot of money setting up many tables in Central Park for all those who fought this obvious wrong. My assessment did go down, but the property is still one-anda-half times what it should be, as many others are also. This blatant stealing under the guise of legitimate governmental administration was brought out in another Gazette article a few months ago, with the “promise” of a new assessment to be undertaken to “correct” the theft by taxation. Now, it is obvious that the present mayor has no plans to do so because he is not pressured in any way by us “average” citizens. Businesses, who can afford attorney fees, have sued the city, winning their suits and getting back their overtaxation, which is cost prohibitive for the average individual. So what can we do? Well, I have thought of a few things I will list here, beginning with No. 1: going to fight the assessment again, I believe in May. This, however, has been tried by many, I know, to no avail. So it may be out of the question. How about No. 2: A lawyer steps up to the plate to bring a “class-action” lawsuit against the city on behalf of the average property owner? Or No. 3: We somehow move the attorney general (good luck with that one) or the Feds to do a corruption probe. Or No. 4: We get someone who knows the system to possibly start an impeachment? Any of these feasible by those “in the know?” I do know this is difficult for those of us living in this city as this mayor, through the assessment process, has already shown his propensity to attack those who challenge him. But what choice do we have? I do not understand how people who are “elected” to serve turn out to be a lot less than servants to the public and how they justify their actions so they can sleep at night. That makes zero sense to me. I couldn’t do it. I sincerely hope that if none of these four options can be instituted that those who vote strictly Democratic, even if it is a dog running for office, do not do that in this man’s next election so we can get a better person in the office. I will try to keep you informed if I am attacked because of this letter. Thanks for listening. BARRY GROAT Schenectady
Yep, the mayor and his cronies want the tax roll to be out of whack so the can steal more from the homeowners in order to make them pay the taxes for millionaires and billionaires.
More people in the city need to write like this!

yikes.. google his name...couldent remember where or why but i thought it was familiar
edited to add; great letter!
Very interesting. But regardless of anything else, the letter about assessment is 1,000% FACTUAL and how his assessment could be so high is unbelievable

LOL and in 1978 the guy was in Real Estate. Of course he's upset. His bottom line was hurt. Pretty much like some of the realtors who post here. They may care somewjat about the taxpayers, but with high taxes they're unable to ply their trade in Schenectady. Eh Brad.

We need people like Barry to run for city council just like regular citizens JOE KELLEHER & BOB BARNES! WAKE UP SCHENECTADY STOP VOTING DOWN PARTY LINES AND VOTE FOR PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT OUR CITIZENS. MCCARTHY AND HIS CREW ONLY CARES ABOUT BIG DEVELOPERS AND HE NEGLECTS THE PEOPLE.

True, it's very obvious from the virtual lack of realtors willing to put ads in the paper for houses in Schenectady that they know Schenectady is a place where they will lose money in their occupation.
But isn't interesting how the mayor brags that it's so wonderful, and his TAX THIEF, TAX DEADBEAT taxpayer paid real estate agent is bragging about how wonderful things are too, bragging about oh so many "pending contracts." But we common people with no background in real estate whatsoever have the intelligence to research and we find that only a very small percentage of houses have closed in the period subsequent to what she has bragged about.

I have no real estate background. Just a concern for my city, my neighbors, and also for the young people who so very badly want to own their own home, who come to Schenectady to look, and get a harsh lesson about the greed and dishonesty of some members of the older generation. What Mr. Groat says, and what M/C are saying, is 100% factual, and it is good of them to get the information out there.
100% the truth. Not the least background, experience in real estate. Just a lot of intelligence to know how to research. Anyone with common sense and intelligence can produce the same detailed posts that we post.

WHY? cause they'd have to kiss the same rich and connected a$$es if they want to get elected! and that is a FACT!!

Don't tell me where to live, bt. I have used this information to help individuals. I'm not "bitching" and "moaning", you are. If this sort of discussion bothers you, I don't know why you read it.
instead of bitching and moaning and pointing fingers...true or not....MOVE THE HELL OUT!!!
I don't know offhand where Madam X lives, but suggesting moving out? If she owns a house are YOU willing to buy her house so that she can move? And buy it for as much as she has paid into it?
So in other words, people just quit complaining. People should move out????? So you are suggesting that people just walk away and lose tens of thousands of dollars?
Have you noticed that houses are not selling?
