I'm pretty sure there is only one 4th Street in Rotterdam.  If you called a Rotterdam emergency dispatcher about an emergency on 4th Street, they pretty much know it's 4th street in Rotterdam and not Belleview.  That would reduce the chances of dispatching to the wrong location.

Could say 4th Avenue instead...error!!!!
What if responding party misunderstands 4th st and goes to wrong place....error!!!
Point is....errors happen regardless of Centralization. Errors increasing or
being caused by centralization is strictly unfounded speculation

Isn't "errors happen regardless" mere speculation? Nevermind.

BTW...You do know I am responding to DVR's suggestion of eliminating municipal lines?  Not centralized dispatch.  DVR suggested eliminating municipal lines to eliminated the problem of one street intersecting multiple municipalities confusing the dispatcher trying to figure out who to dispatch.

Very simple.  Eliminate the municipal lines by consolidating into ONE City-County and then there would be no confusion as to what municipality the streets were located in.

And DV, would you care to address the FACT that the consolidation of just this one responsibility alone is costing the city more money instead of saving money.

And furthermore DV, the FACT that the employees do not know where streets are proves INCOMPENTENCE.

Yup...simple...there is an emergency on 4th street.  Is it 4th Street Rotterdam, or 4th Street Bellview?

The City-County is still a good idea.  The only way to reduce government spending is to reduce the bloated - due to redundancy - public employee payrolls.  That reduces current costs for wages and benefits as well as future costs for retirement.

As for the duplication of street names, I agree that is a different and, in regards to this topic, a more important issue that needs to be addressed.  I apologize if I "muddied the waters" by veering off topic. Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.

How will payrolls/benefits/retirements be reduced? How many employees are getting laid off due to this dispatch consolidation?

Are you saying that can't happen today without being centralized?

If someone called Rotterdam to 4th St, they would never send the responders to 4th St in Bellevue.

The caller could also mean 4th St in Scotia, under the consolidated plan.

But not if the caller called the Scotia dispatcher.

Or other streets like the Washington Avenues.

Or the 2 Jay Streets.

Fortunately, we have not had a major disaster like Hurricane Irene/Tropical Storm Lee to deal with since the Central Dispatch was established.  If we did have a major event like that, than Central Dispatch would be more than worth the money invested in it.  I would defer to someone who works at Central Dispatch or is one of the first responders within the county to enlighten us on the situation but I am willing to bet that Central Dispatch has already saved lives or played a key role in handling a situation or situations which more than justifies its costs.
Central Dispatch is common across most of the United States.  I personally know someone who was a high ranking official in the emergency preparedness operation of a southern state and an expert in that field.  He was appalled when I told him a couple years ago that we still did not have (at that time) a county-wide central dispatch.
Finally, the fact that it is located IN Rotterdam and its workers can bring economic activity to the Hamburg Street corridor is just the "cherry on top" in terms of benefits to our community.

10 or 15 minute delays in a crime or fire can make a big difference.  Unfortunately in a bad way.

DV won't answer such questions.   He can never provide evidence of what he says.  Waiting YEARS since he stated the county taxes are lower than in the 1970's and he does not provide one teeny weeny shred of evidence.  And he PRETENDS

I don't care if dv answers or not. dv is not my total source of information.

Does ANYONE else know?

my personal thoughts are.....no one will get laid off and more folks will be hired.
and since they are all union jobs....payroll and benefits will rise substantially....hence no savings!  imho

911 service requires that your phone be linked to your address.

Look on your phone bill. They charge you a 911 fee.

When you call, they know what the address is immediately, if it is a land line.
