it's ALWAYS about the levy....

I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.....PRICELESS.....

Yeah, the LEVY goes up by that percent but the tax BILLS go up much more.    Remember the city school district's increase and people actually wound up with 20% increase.

And it's all because in Schenectady, in the same way that the taxes are increased more due to the tax deadbeats failing to pay (remember this the reasoning of both McTHIEF and DV), well of course the tax deadbeats must include the political cronies who are delinquent.  And of course there are tax exempt properties in the city (hospitals, churches, charities) which exist to serve the people.   But the local leaders have chosen to dole out 100% tax exemptions on the properties with the highest assessment values, in multimillions--downtown--owned by the dems political cronies,  even over $100 million assessment (GE), and these properties are not even remotely serving the community, they are providing service to the poor, they exist to make money, but they are exempt from taxes thanks to the current city and county and plex leaders.  And because of all that money not collected from them, their taxes get added to the tax bills of homeowners which pushes the BILLS up much higher than the percent that the tax LEVY is increased.

During her budget presentation Rooney said the collection of county clerk fees and mortgage taxes are down while the cost of operating the jail, providing services to the poor and employee contract pay raises are all up, Fields said

and what out of all this do we think a casino will do?

1. increase cost of jail operation
2. require more services for the poor who gamble
3. require more police/contract/benefits/raises
4. require more municipal support contract/benefits/raises

Yep, reduction of mortgage taxes collected is more EVIDENCE of falling home sales AND falling home sale prices.    But it rather obvious it's throughout the county, not just in the city.

Reduction in the other fees, definite indicator of people leaving

I actually applaud anyone who doesn't pay their taxes in protest over being taxed.

Not taxed, overtaxed.

With no end to tax increases or reductions in spending anywhere in sight.

My taxes are currently double what my mortgage was.

$400 a month in taxes, to live in Rotterdam is outrageous.

Seniors on fixed incomes must be struggling just to keep their homes.

Why are the tax increases directed only at property owners?

If they added 2 cents to the local sales tax, and applied the money to the city, county, town and village budgets, all of Schenectady County would have instant property value increases and the lowest homeowner taxes in the state.

I just found out that some people in my neighborhood are having their home stolen out from under them by the city. I don't think they are deadbeats, I think they just don't have enough income to ransom their house back. They don't have a single expensive thing to their names, they don't live anywhere near as nice of the people whose lifestyles of the rich and famous we underwrite.
Maybe when people visit one of the nice shiny establishments downtown, they can raise a glass to these ladies.

You mean that if you spent 15 or 30 years paying a mortgage of, say $100,000 plus interest, and if you spent $30,000 to do a renovation on a kitchen, and you replaced a roof, replaced a furnace, replaced a driveway and the like, you mean you are rich enough to simply throw that money away?   You do know that the county or town or school district does not pay you for your house when you basically throw in the towel.

Sad,  Hey, you should pass on to them, the posts on these boards showing the EVIDENCE of the political cronies of downtown who are not paying their taxes but yet get to keep their homes, not to mention one millionaire political crony family that is tax exempt on the taxpayer paid new building and now is a tax deadbeat on the older buildings, not to mention the Nisky son living in his posh $300,000 house while being at least three years delinquent in taxes but no foreclosure of his political connections

They should go to Greg Floyd and talk about how they are not rich but they are paying the taxes of the downtown rich and so are losing their home because of it AND give the news media a print of the tax info of the connected cronies

i'm throwing money away everytime I pay my tax bill. Let's put things in perspective here..........IT IS JUST A BUILDING!!!! It's not a matter of life or death, disease or illness!! I'm not 'in love' with a building!!! Nor money for that matter.

you don't own your 'home/building'. You NEVER did! You have to pay the government who 'allows' you to live there (taxes). You have to pay the banking corporation 3X's what the home/building is worth with interest!
So your new kitchen, roof, furnace, driveway was all in vain! You may think you 'own' your home/building...but you are actually renting from the banks and the government.

You can't even do what you want on your, so called, own property. You have to get approvals first!!!! put up a fence, a pool, windows, additions, etc....go ahead and try...it is YOUR property after all, right?

So you are kidding here...right?

get your head out of the sand!!

NOPE....when we can't afford the taxes....they will get my tax bill and the keys right on the assessors desk....have at it!!!

Not quite $400.

I just totaled up what i paid this year.

$4,250 plus $75 water tax and $50 brush fee.

Plus I paid $4,150 from last year in March from my tax return.

I am currently up to date.

The first time since the reassessment.

How is it that the City of Schenectady gave GE a 100% Tax Exemption and the Niskayuna plant has very little exemption?

How is it that I cant find the so called PILOT payments on the City Income Statement? I see some but they don't add up nearly to the amounts touted by the Plex.

How come we don't see don't see any scrap income on the city Income statement? We bought a few new trucks for picking up scrap but there is not income to account for.

Gary is going to be in a real pickle soon.  They have a large fund balance from pulling in past taxes and they will need to do some major wiggle room to try and keep it without giving a large tax reduction.  Gary wants this money to run his HOMES program but it isn't his.  We deserve a break in the taxes.
