Quoted from Jaystreet
Niagara Falls NEW YORK is horrible.

I don't think the vast majority in Schenectady really want a casino. These developers pay people to attend meetings and hold signs...

I'm not saying Howe's Caverns in the only other thing to do ... But people could make a day of it there with all the natural beauty, museums, hall of fames and such within a reasonable drive ...

If the casino is in an urban area it will just end up getting the people who can't afford to gamble going while the people in the suburbs will avoid it for that reason .....

The museums and hall of fame are miles down the road from Howe's Cavern.  I don't think Howe's Cavern is worth seeing more than once (I've seen it 3 times .. and that is more than enough to last a lifetime). Building a casino there would NOT entice me to go back to Howe's Cavern.

Quite honestly, I would rather go to the casino in the Poconos or the casinos down in Louisiana and Mississippi.

either gambling IS the draw or it isn't......the investment for some passing hankering by a few people may not be worth the
aggravation or cost of policing in the city.....

people who REALY gamble will go anywhere even if it's in Howe Caves to a resort where you get a facial between hands of blackjack....

There is no shortage of places to gamble in Schenectady.

A casino will just take money that usually is gambled away locally.

Why go to a casino and gamble?  Just continue to give money to Metroplex and hope you'll get a return for your bet.  Schenectady already has compulsory gambling.

Well, that is what I'm saying. A casino has to be in a DESTINATION to get high rollers.... Otherwise it will get nickel and dimers and quickly go downhill.

Metroplex isn't a gamble -- it is a solid investment.  It has paid tremendously positive dividend to the City-County of Schenectady under its capable leadership during the past decade.

As for casinos and gambling, I have always believed and said that if a state was going to legalize gambling it  should be for the WHOLE state -- not just a few selected sites.  If SOME people are going to be given the legal  privilege to operate slot machines and table games than EVERY person in the state should have the legal privilege to slot machinesl slot machines and gaming tables.

Finally, I think Schenectady is in the process of becoming a destination -- and would make a much better site for a casino than Howe's Cavern.  The only other site that I think would make a great site in the Capital Region would be in Renselaer along the Hudson River near the train station.

.

ROFLMAO.

Oh, come on DV, show us the "positive dividend."      Show us the EWVIDENCE that shows the tax base is increasing.

Is the massive reduction in property values downtown a positive dividend?    Is it?????

Where is the positive dividend for the homeonwers, WHAT are the homeowners getting???????    Do you have an answer for that   Well?????????

Falling property values are a positive dividend?

People fleeing the city is a positive dividend?

Falling home sales is a positive dividend?

Falling home sale prices is a positive dividend?

Elimination/cutting of ESSENTIAL services to the homeowners in their neighborhoods where they live is a positive dividend?

Increasing taxes is a positive dividend?

Increasing tax foreclosures resulting from homeowners forced to pay for the millionaire downtown cronies of the dems is a positive dividend?

Increase in vacant and abandoned homes is a positive dividend?

Blight spreading like wildfire throughout the neighborhoods is a positive dividend?

Do you even know that the words "positive" and "dividend" mean?

So produce some EVIDENCE on what positive dividend have occurred from metroplex that benefits the homeowners and taxpayers in their neighborhoods where they live.   Do you have the guts to produce it.

Marcella is gaining an UNBELIEVABLY HUMONGOUS positive dividend, isn't he DV??????    A dividend STOLEN direct form the pockets of the taxpayers who do NOT get the same courtesy when they fall behind on taxes.

The Metroplex favored architect Frank Gilmore, and his real estate agent wife running the mayor's HOMES program and sitting on the board of assessment denying reductions - that couple is getting an UNBELIEVABLY HUMONGOUS positive dividend thanks to the money STOLEN from homeowners in the city who are NOT afford the courtesy of keeping their homes after paying the taxes of Gilmore and his wife.

Ditto that camera guy at Proctors - Joe Pizzao - he really has gotten the riches.

Ex Joe Allen too.

And all the taxes the homeowner have had to pay for after the puny, paltry pilots paid by the downtown millionaires and billionaires.

So, DV, tell us WHO is getting positive dividend.   hey, it's your words, NOW, HAVE THE GUTS TO PRODUCE EVIDENCE.

No evidence proves you are full of poop

City leaders in Amsterdam, New York, who saw their hopes for a resort casino get dashed by a state gambling oversight board, are backing a $350 million casino 18 miles away in Schenectady.
The city council voted unanimously Tuesday to support the proposed Rivers Casino and Resort at Mohawk Harbor, according to Ray Gillen, chairman of the Schenectady Metroplex Development Authority.
Both Gillen and David Buicko, chief operating officer at The Galesi Group in Rotterdam, which is developing the casino with Rush Street Gaming of Chicago, spoke about the project.
Amsterdam Mayor Ann Thane last week voiced her support for the casino during a presentation the developers gave in Albany to the New York Gaming Facility Location Board.
Although Thane is backing the Schenectady bid, the Montgomery County Legislature is instead supporting a competing casino proposal from the owners of Howe Caverns in neighboring Schoharie County.
The prospect of Amsterdam residents getting some of the 1,200 permanent jobs that will be created by a regional casino motivated government leaders to express their support.
A decision on who gets a casino license will be made this fall. Also competing for what's expected to be just one license in the Capital Region are developers in Rensselaer and East Greenbush.

See that, we all know DV better than DV knows himself.  I told you that while he claims that downtown is producing a positive dividend, that he would not produce any evidence to support that statement.

Still thanks to downtown the tax base is falling more and more.   This week, even more tax certioraris that the city must accept in the claims committee   DV -- are you willing to explain how more successful certoraris proving more reduction of the city's tax base is a positive dividend?    Of course DV avoids commenting on the tons and tons of EVIDENCE that I provide that proves him wrong.   Go hide and avoid discussion.

The ONLY ones getting a positive dividend from Metrooplex are the millionaire political cronnies of the dems who do NOT live in the city who have their properties downtown and whose taxes are paid by homeowners, many who are losing their homes.   And of course the few TAX DEADBEATS who do live IN the city but the city is not taking their properties away because if their connections to the dems and plex.

With all DV's brownnosing, he could buy a house cheap, get an interest free mortgage, probably have Mr Gilmore design some changes, then Marcella would give DV free appliances courtesy of the city taxpayers, and Mrs Gilmore would reduce is assessment.  Then the government restaurants would deliver his meals every day.   Then he could skip paying the taxes and the city and county would look the other way.
Yep, he known as DV FULL OF POOP

I wasn't disagreeing with you.  I just don't think that Howe's Cavern is a "destination."

Personally, I think it is wrong to only legalize gambling at a few, hand-picked locations.  If the state is going to legalize gambling it should be ALL across the state.  Everyone should have the opportunity to operate slot machines or gaming tables -- not just the multimillionaires who are financing Cuomo's and Sheldon Silver's reelection campaigns.

Finally -- since the Capital Region will only be getting 1 casino, I think that either Schenectady proposal or Renselaer proposal are good ones.  East Greenbush and Howe's Cavern are not good sites -- either as destinations or as far as trying to boost the economy of the host area.  The two urban locations are located quite close to Amtrak stations -- as well as interstate highways -- and would serve to REDEVELOP underutilized properties rather than adding to urban sprawl or the destruction of farm lands and natural areas.

I agree with DV  in this case. The negatives from a casino in both of East Greenbush and Howe's locations would far outweigh any positives. I do not want it to be in Schenectady either, but it's not as if we aren't already dealing with the crime and poverty that are side effects of the gambling industry.

Oh, you actually meant to say the BILLIONAIRE Galesi who YOUR BUDDY DEMS -- McThief, the DEM council members, the DEM DAGGER in the county, and the RAY OF DEATH TO THE TAXPAYERS - that billionaire to whom YOUR DEMS are making the financially struggling city homeowners (who can't eve afford to feed their children on the weekends) pay the BILLIONAIRE'S Galei's taxes in return for the financing of the Schenectady City and Schenectady County (and Rotterdam in their years) re-election campaigns, ALL THE KICKBACKS.

And of course, casino (in Schenectady) or not, you are supporting the homeowners in the paying the taxes of that 100% TAX EXEMPT Alco property of Galesi, all the other city downtown Galesi properties, AND YOU 1,000% support the city forcing the homeowners to pay for the demolition of the old DSS b building owned by the BILLIONAIRE GALESI so the BILLIONAIRE can give kickbacks to and finance the re-election campaigns of the local CORRUPT dems who are in turn keeping the Ray of Death to the city in power.

And for all your brown nosing, they don't even see fit to think highly enough of your to give you a nice paying job.   In exchange for all your supporting them, praising them, shaking those two pom poms on your chest, they still know you are a loser.
