Of course, the best and easiest solution is to consolidate all 6 school districts in the county into 1 school district.  Then we could have more efficient use of existing facilities and eliminate redundant administrative & support staff.

isn't he oh so funny !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Such a wild imagination.   Yes, purchasing buses, busing kids all over the county, the HUGE INCREASE in liability insurance, the maintenance cost of buses, the extra gas driving from one end of the county to another.

And just think, of the hours these kids will be on buses each day!   If they ride a bus for an hour WITHIN the EXISTING districts, when they are transported all over the county they might be on the bus for two hours in the morning and two hours at the end of the day.   Get home at 5, go to their part time job for 5:30 and work 8:30 or 9 and come home, WHEN will they have time to study, do homework?   Probably get up at 5 a.m., breakfast, shower, dress to be on the but for 6 a. m to get to school for 8 am.

Notice how DV, in his cheering for consolidation of the schools has NEVER ONCE addressed the huge increase in costs due to the need for more buses, the extra gas, maintenance, insurance, etc.

Notice how he REFUSED to write about his LIE about taxes not being able to go up more than 2% --- PROVES he knows NOTHING about taxes!

When confronted with EVIDENCE and proven wrong, he goes and hides in his two mommies' basement

DV thinks there is a money tree out there from which the buses, insurance gas, insurance, maintenance, etc will be paid.   He doesn't believe that homeowners will be paying these costs

you're still funny....the government does not eliminate anything.......brick and mortar buildings will become obsolete
unless you count them as giant day care centers.....

consolidation will NOT make taxes go down, the levy will continue to go up and that taxes will continue to be equalized
and collected.....

consolidation for $$ savings is a fallacy......consolidation for control is not a fallacy

Look how much money is wasted having to duplicate 6 of everything (superintendents, district office staff, etc.)  -- There would certainly have to be savings if we eliminated 5 of them.
Loads of money would be saved by not having to build new buildings -- which some of the existing districts have been considering.  Utilize ALL of the existing classroom space.
My proposal would NOT have just one central high school (one high school in the western half of the county would probably have to close or become a middle school)  nor close any of the elementary schools.

Your "proposal."   Are you submitting a proposal to someone?

Wouldn't close any elementary schools, that means no savings from eliminating staff.

Off hand, I don't know how many schools there actually are, but high schools for example, there's Schalmont, Duanesburg, Mohon, Schenecady (city), Nisky, SG.   So Ok there are six supers.  You think ONE super is going to be a super in a district of six high schools?

It would take a HUGE RAISE (probably the equivalent of 4 super's salaries combined) to take on the responsibility of so many more schools.   Tell us what the total student population is of ALL schools in Schdy Co now, how many elementary schools, how many middle schools, and high schools.   How many total teachers?   How many total teacher aides.   Then find for us a school district that big and tell us (um, that means providing EVIDENCE from the district's websites) and tell, us what the super gets paid.

And DV, if ALL elementary schools stay open, just remember the additional busing costs (busing students, capital costs, insurance, drivers, liability, etc. etc. etc) will be ASTRONOMICAL.    Just remember, kids in the county would NOT be allowed to attend their current elementary school.   Segregation is against the law.   ALL elementary schools will have to be involved in a VERY COSTLY redo to insure total integration.    But as you are NOT a taxpayer and do NOT understand requirements of schools, you choose to avoid addressing that!

Except with the number of days they're actually IN school, it only makes them part-time day care centers.

This will do nothing more than spread the misery around... as in increased school taxes for everyone outside the Schenectady school district.
This was pitched to the taxpayers in the Northville school district...they were asked to merge with Mayfield...Let's see, merge with an inferior quality district and have our taxes go up....umm, no thanks. Add to that, the problems of the schenectady city student population

For the merge to happen, each districts voters have to approve it...good luck with that. But, if it were to happen via some government order, the sucking sound you'd hear is every town and village outside the city limits losing population and tax base when rats start leaving the Titanic.

Yes, I remember reading that news.

There is a reason people move out of cities.  City taxes are high because they have more services.  Certainly I'm thinking that sometime in the past people may have moved out of a city and into a suburb because of having a bigger yard, maybe a two car garage, and that doesn't have to be the comparing the two family houses in a city compared to one families in the suburbs with half acre but just think of the houses on Morris Ave in Schenectady, sure they might have a garage, but lot size is small.  Even those beautiful houses around the high school don't have much land.  I guess I'd be a bit curious whether the somewhat suburban like Woodlawn is older or younger than maybe the Coldbrook area of Rotterdam.  They are kind of similar, but without looking up house records, I'll guess lots in Coldbrook are larger.  (though Schdy I think screwed up as far as Woodlawn, not sure if it's all been taken care of but I remember drainage issues there, and really, the streets in Woodlawn are absolutely pathetic, they are probably worse every year, year round, than Erie Blvd was in the worst of the construction time)

But anyway, sure, moving to suburbs people know that they'd perhaps have to have their own septic system, perhaps a well.  So less municipal services.  Then of course others went further out, more rural, perhaps for much bigger piece of land, and surely they recognized that they would have even less city services, maybe no police, maybe a couple plows instead of a huge fleet, less city lights, and while having fewer services, the taxes were less.

Of course as time went on, politicans and school people got greedy, more money, and surely people grew to realize they did NOT need to be dependent upon the government.

So people chose to live where they want, with a lifestyle they pretty much wanted, knowing full well they might have fewer government services.

And this whole idea of consolidation and claims that it will save money is only a means for cities to attempt to continue to wildly and uncontrollably spend the taxpayers' money -- whether to spend it on needless gold ceilings for a business or to provide needless swimming pools and toe nail painting classes.   In both cases of course, we who are taxpayers and intelligent, we can see through the city leaders' (whether municipal or school) claims that people NEED these things.

And the more city based doesn't want to give up any of their own perks and other wild spending and they figure if they propose consolidation saying it will save money, they know that it won't save money but they obviously know that there are people out there that will fall for their false claims.   And indeed there are people that are fooled.

True, consolidation does NOT save money , it only allows the more city based to keep spending wildly and force the cost to be spread among those who chose to move away from the high cost cities because those who moved away know that the services provided are NOT a necessity.

It's kind of like the comparison of city schools vs the Catholic high schools.  People who send their kids to Gibbons know full well that having toe nail painting classes is NOT a necessity whatsoever.  And these parents also probably know that feeding ones children is the parents responsibility and not the schools.  But sad that the parents who are involved in their children's lives have to pay school taxes plus at least $7,000 in tuition per child, sad that parents in Schenectady city are paying the school taxes of the downtown millionaires and the political crony tax deadbeats and then can't afford to pay tuition for school other then "official" government school.
