Channel 6, I wish the video was up already, Schenectady taxes, the combined rate is $43 and some cents.
Albany is only I think it was $34 and some cents.
Saratoga was $20 something, didn't catch the exact amount, maybe the repeat of the report.
Now let's see, taxpayer money for millionaires for bakeries, gin mills, gold ceiling at Proctors, new streets for the downtown millionaires and what supporters of downtown and the dems are willing to engage in intelligent discussion (based on facts and evidence) and discuss why, if the city is improving and there is oh so much economic development, why are the taxes $10 per thousand more than Albany and nearly double Saratoga?
And Albany has all that tax exempt government (state offices) property and they STILL beat Schenectady by far.
You can have a house in Albany and pay far less taxes for the same house in Schenectady AND the house in Albany increases in value and the house in Schenectady falls in value. Why is that????? Can those who cheer for how the dems are running the city explain that?
And while they said that the combined tax rate in Schenectady is that $43 and some cents that does NOT include the water fee, the sewer fee, and the trash fee which collectively average $600 to $700 per property for a one family house.
And actually when you think of it, the FACT is that the assessed values of Albany and Saratoga do NOT exceed the market value anywhere near as much as Schenectady, so while the equalization rate is 123% which in theory means houses are assessed 23% higher than market value, we know that it is a FACT that the vast majority of houses are selling for 30%, 40% less than the assessed value which then effectively means the combined tax rate of most city houses is calculated on a value 40 to 50% more than the market value of the house. And the percentage grows each year because property values are going down because the city/county/plex dems can't stop spending money on their millionaires and billionaires. Not to mention the elimination of ESSENTAL services to the residents causes home value to fall more
Too bad that supporters of downtown won't engage in discussion about the homeowners having to pay the highest taxes locally, and won't discuss what the taxpayers are getting in return for paying the highest taxes in order to pay for downtown. But isn't that just like the democrats on the council who, last night, would not engage in ANY discussion about reassessment. |
