Sadly another LONG TIME TAXPAYING business is going to close because the city DEMS do not help these businesses.
More EVIENCE that the city, county, plex leadership does NOT care about the city. The ONLY thing they care about is making homeowners and taxpaying businesses pay the taxes for their millionaires and billionaires downtown.
And all the tax money spend on downtown is NOT helping the city in any way, manner, shape or form. And NO CHEERLEADERS for downtown and the dems can provide one teeny weeny shred of EVIDNCE to the contrary. But then that's why the cheerleaders REFUSE to engage in discussion.
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

So you have factual information that they are closing because the DEMS won't help them, and that it's not for any other reason? I'd be interested to see that factual info!
JUST BECAUSE SISSY SAYS SO DOESN'T MAKE IT SO...BUT HE THINKS IT DOES!!!!! JUST BECAUSE MC1 SAYS SO DOESN'T MAKE IT SO!!!!!
does anyone actually know the details here? Are they relocating? is someone sick? old? tired? just askin'

Let's see, a pair of women to young to retire (in their 50's).
Let's see, a successful taxpaying business in business for almost 100 years
Let's see, a successful taxpaying businesses currently on the third generation (who are too young to retire)
Let's see, a long time TAXPAYING BUSINESS that did not get $ from metroplex
Let's see, Metroplex gives money to millionaires opening Italian restaurants and bakeries in main part of downtown.
Let's see, Italian bakery in old building that has to compete with a bakery owned by millionaires that didn't have to spend their own money to open.
Let's see long time Italian eatery in old building that has to compete against a millionaire family that opens an Italian eatery in downtown that is a brand new building largely done at taxpayer expense AND can pay very low rent to it's billionaire landlord who is totally exempt from taxes with no end date in site.
Let's see, no tax exemptions on their aging building with an total assessment of about $240,000, so owners force to pay the DEMS confiscatory taxes. Heard they were trying to flee the city about a year after Stratton started leading the city and giving out tax exemptions to millionaires but nothing to long time taxpaying businesses. They were looking to move to Saratoga. But wow, 10 year and no buyers for the property!

Let's see, maybe if I try again....kind of confusing that you wouldn't answer the question and provide the PROOF! So you have factual information that they are closing because the DEMS won't help them, and that it's not for any other reason? Several of us would be interested to see that factual info!
Let's see, also, based on your recent post, you know for a fact a pair of women to young to retire, not that maybe they want to retire?
Let's see, and also, you know that third generation (who are too young to retire) aren't looking to retire?
Let's see, and also you have proof that they wanted to move to Saratoga? Were they going to get tax incentives so that's why they wanted to move, or was it a business or other decision? I mean, they would still be paying taxes in Saratoga without assistance, so not sure how that is a contributing factor to any of this????
Let's see, assessment is about $240k, but they have on the market for $650k....hmmmmm!!!!

Who collects Social Security at less than 62 at the earliest? Doubtful they are so wealthy that they can stop working now, not on the taxes they have to pay themselves PLUS paying for their millionaire competition downtown. I know, that asking asking price is outrageous.
December 2004 - Albany Biz Journals. one year after Stratton took over the city:
Quoted Text
Schenectady's "La Piccola Italia," or Little Italy, is about to get even smaller. After operating on North Jay Street for more than 80 years, the building that houses Civitello's Spumoni Shoppe Inc. is for sale, said Roie Angerami.
Angerami and her sister, Angela Angerami, are looking to move the pastry and Italian specialties business to Clifton Park or Saratoga Springs. Roie Angerami said Civitello's building is under contract and the sale is expected to close shortly. Once those details are wrapped up, the sisters will start planning Civitello's next incarnation.
Despite Schenectady's recent investment in the Little Italy neighborhood, Civitello's has outgrown its current small cafe, Angerami said. A higher profile location will allow it to grow the two-person business and perhaps expand into mail order.
...
Little Italy is among Metroplex's priorities, Gillen said. The ecomomic development group is helping to recruit businesses
Don't know what happened to the sale in 2004.
But look at the words about metroplex is "helping to recruit businesses." And look how it says that Civitello's outgrew it's little location.
So tell me, if Civitello's, a century of paying taxes, outgrowing it's small location. Metroplex is trying to get new business. Tell us WHY Metroplex would give tax money to Mallozzi's and build them a lavish new building and exempt them from taxes, but Metroplex refuses to do the same for a long time TAXPAYING and popular business in the city?
Quite obvious, Metroplex only wants to deal with millionaires. What did Metroplex do for the long time James Hairstylist? NOTHING, instead plex re-did an existing building creating a lavish new building for a Forbes billionaires (Paul Mitchell) AND exempt it from paying taxes, thus forcing a long time taxpaying James Hairstylist to pay it's own taxes PLUS the taxes of the billionaire Paul Mitchell AND try to compete against the billionaire business. What did Metroplex due for the long time Rudnicks? It's owner in her own words was quoted as saying Metroplex did NOTHING for them AND they had to pay the high taxes. How about the Union Inn, another long time taxpaying business, Metroplex gave tax dollars to that guy building unnecessary apartments (there is a glut of residential units in the city) and the work on those apartments caused massive damage to the Union Inn and Metroplex does NOTHING to help that LONG TIME TAXPAYING business (we were not customers of Union Inn, but really, they WERE a taxpaying business). The long time taxpaying businesses who have stuck it out through the best and worst of times in the city, continue to operate, probably lose money, pay their own taxes and then they are expected to pay the taxes of the millionaires who are their competition? These long time taxpaying businesses should be highly praised and should NEVER have to close because of the theft from the city, county, and plex dem leades who are treating them like sh*t.
On the other hand, maybe the listing of the place at a price far above what it would sell for is intelligence by these two women, hoping maybe Metroplex will do something for them. And if they get a price like that from selling, they can buy a much bigger place for far less taxes in Clifton Park or Saratoga.
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
Who collects Social Security at less than 62 at the earliest? Doubtful they are so wealthy that they can stop working now, not on the taxes they have to pay themselves PLUS paying for their millionaire competition downtown. I know, that asking asking price is outrageous. YOU brought up the retirement as not being a possibility for their decision to sell. What make you think they are not able to retire at 55 or even at 50? You have no idea about their finances or health or whatever other reason they may have for selling, and/or retiring. Your "claim" is that they are selling because of DEMS, and so far it's unfounded conjecture on your part and NOT FACT!
But look at the words about metroplex is "helping to recruit businesses." And look how it says that Civitello's outgrew it's little location. Yes, let's look at what is fact...they wanted to move to Clifton Park or Saratoga. So they outgrew the current location had a buyer and intended to move out of Schdy. Sale falls through and THEY ARE STILL ON JAY ST. What could Metroplex have done here??? They would have had to do something similar they did for others, but it would involve buying the current building (at a much higher value than appraisal, then move them to new facility, offer low cost funding AND tax exemptions..... would love to see how you would have ranted about that deal. Bad business move for Metroplex and you would be all over it!!!!!
You answered your own question..."recruit new business". Do you know the right info about Mallozzi's? They were in Rotterdam, sold the property to the church and had planned to move out of the county.... Metroplex stepped in to offer incentives to keep them here, in return for more employment (they hired more people at expanded new location) and the vision of increased sales tax (result of increased business). Would Mallozzi's have stayed in the CTY without the incentives? Not sure, but they were not looking at property in the CTY before they were approached by Metroplex. Yah, I know...you think they should have been stupid business people and stayed in SCHDY and refused the incentives offered....brilliant business decision!!!!!! (NOT)
Let me be clear...Metroplex is badly run and needs to be investigated for their decisions, as well as being run according to how they were intended. They should be going after businesses from outside the county and offering them incentives to come in; they should have meetings with existing "struggling" businesses to see how they can help to make them profitable in return for commitments (enforceable) to add employment, keeping them and their sales tax in Schdy. I could go on, but let's face it, Metroplex is what it is and I'm not sure anyone can change it unfortunately....attorney general should investigate their practices!!!
JUST BECAUSE SISSY SAYS SO DOESN'T MAKE IT SO...BUT HE THINKS IT DOES!!!!! JUST BECAUSE MC1 SAYS SO DOESN'T MAKE IT SO!!!!!
If they were rich enough to retire in their early 50's they'd need to have to have at least two million dollars each to cover them for the next probably 30 years. Having one million in savings at a time when interest rates are next to nothing and stock market is too risky only gives you about $35,000 a year. Do you really think that someone will be able to live on an income of $35,000 in 2034? ROFL
Now, tell me WHO sells a building in Schenectady in order to move to a lower taxed county if they can afford the city's taxes? Why are so many houses for sale AND left their magnificent beautiful houses. DO you REALLY thinking such a huge number of homeowners is getting a lavish job offer far away that they HAVE to move?
Metroplex gives these tax incentives, like to Mallozzi's to keep them in Schenectady. What has that done to help the city? What have the incentives to Mallozzi's done for the tax base, the sales tax revenue, the property values in the city, the desirability to own a home IN the city. Why are Mallozzi's avoiding ANY taxes in the city by avoiding living in the city paying the taxes? Reallly, they couldn't buy those beautiful homes in the GE plot? Why not???? Taxes are too high. Own a commercial property here that has largely been funded by the taxpayers then get exempt from paying the high taxes. Of course they don't want to live in the city. But why should Civitello's suffer with the high taxes? Why should homeowners suffer with high taxes?

Your numbers are your opinion...I have 2 close friends that retired at 52 and 55, because of smart investments, inheritances, good salaries, etc. It can be done...but again, YOU gave that as an example of why it must be a move because of the politicians. You have completely disregarded all the other reasons they are selling....because you want so badly to have it be the politicians' fault.
You also seem to have disregarded the other points....why do you ignore them and not debate them as you say you would like. Explain the great business decision that Mallozzi's and others should have made and refused the incentives...explain how that is smart business as opposed to what they did! Love to hear that justification!
How about you show us the FACTS to prove they are selling/closing because of the politicians! Where are those documented facts? You are trying to justify with all the other fluff and not supporting, directly, your claim....why not address it directly or rescind it as conjecture on your part and not factual! "Now, tell me WHO sells a building in Schenectady in order to move to a lower taxed county if they can afford the city's taxes?" Obviously not Civitellos, and again, your far reaching unsubstantiated assumption.

Civitello's is 42 North Jay St and is assessed at $120,000, and has an actual value of $97,000.
It is owned by the Angerami's.
The white house to the right of it is 40 North Jay st and has the same owners.
Assessed at $58,000 and valued at $47,000.
The house to the left of Civitello's is 44 North Jay St and is assessed at $60,900 and valued at $49,000.
James Segrue owns 6 properties on that side of Jay St with less than $200,000 total value.
The entire side of the street from South Ave to Union St does not have one single building valued over $100,000.
Trulia is out of touch with reality.
They also have it listed as a low crime area.
And you still have trouble with reading comprehension....I did not identify the assessment...MC1 did. I only identified the asking price! Try reading and understanding before you make accusations! How's your foot taste, GENIUS?
